Off-camera and no-name Transformers

Postby Crillan » Mon Jul 27, 2009 12:03 am

1. I have a couple questions maybe some of you can answer. In the scene where they show the Autobots splitting up over the east coast of the U.S., they have a map showing the various locations of each robot. There are circles marking the locations of the Autobots that have name ribbons next to them. The third time I saw the film, I swear I read one of the names as Stratosphere. If you're a toy collector, you'll know Stratosphere is an Autobot Air Force cargo plane. He's friggin huge compared to Optimus considering the toy comes with a mini Optimus that ejects out the cargo door. Has anyone else had a better look at those names or maybe been able to find a still image of that scene? I'm curious to see an HD image of that scene to read all of the names on the map.

2. I asked this in another thread but figured I'd ask in a more focused thread. There's a scene where the Decepticons are advancing through the ruined city in the desert during the final battle and for a split second, there appears to be a massively huge Decepticon. He appears to be about as big as Devastator but it's just one robot. It's such a quick glimpse that I can't tell if he's really that big, or if it's just an awkward perspective that makes him appear larger. He doesn't look like any other Decepticons that I saw until that point. Has anyone else seen this guy?

-edit- Removed my last comments so the thread stays focused on my actual questions.

That's nice. It was for those that don't since I still see people confused about it. Any insight on my actual questions?

If you look back through threads and posts, you will be able to find insight concerning most of these questions.

Yea, Transformers forum, we're pretty much all as nerdy as hell.
The only thing really to discuss here is the Stratosphere and the other names, the others have been done.

I'd be interested if anyone else noticed/read the other names?

I don't remember exactly what point in the movie it happens but it's in the military and they get notified that the Autobots are on the move and they show a large monitor showing a picture of the U.S. and markers moving on the map representing each Autobot moving. The markers have labels next to them with the name of the particular robot. I think it was the southern most marker that said Stratosphere. It's not very large writing but I saw it in IMAX twice and it was much clearer. It's just too quick to read all of the labels.

I know which scene you're talking about but I didn't catch any of the names. According to the prequel novel 3 other Autobots (Longarm, Knockout, & Salvage) are on Earth.

Well, I really didn't catch those names. But still,if Stratosphere was definitely shown, I bet he will just make a dialogue or two.

That Stratosphere thing is interesting, it's possible that ship that dumped Prime could have been him. Even if they didn't mean it they can always come back and say it was.

Speaking of no-names, the whole map thing reminded me...what are all the other Decepticons on Earth doing? I'm referring to when Wheelie was telling them where to find an ancient transformer, he shot laser pointers at the map indicating where they were all hiding/resting. There were tons! They went to Jetfire cuz he was the closest, but who are all the others? I think this is the perfect opportunity to introduce Shockwave, the Seekers, pretty much any Decepticons they want (as long as they don't all turn into old men with parents and a cane).

But the old man with Parents and a cane was the best part.

"No."

While I agree that this would be a neat way to intro the Seekers et alia (more...seekers.... =P~ ) if you really think about it, isn't the map we're all talking about just another Giant Plot Hole?

Really: the Autobots go to China why? Because they've detected Decepticon activity. NOT that the Shanghai 'cons were really doing much (I think we caught Demolishor on his union-mandated afternoon break or something), but just that they were detected there. If there's THAT much Decepticon activity as the map shows, the Autobots would have been constantly fighting--not sitting around in the Diego Garcia hangar like they were.

Unless you try to say that somehow Wheelie knew because he's a kinda/sorta Decepticon, and the Autobots didn't because they're not. Which then means you have to explain exactly WHAT the Shanghai 'cons did to be noticed by the Autobots, that everyone else is doing. If all the other 'cons are laying so bloody low, why, exactly, do we need to steal their faces and exterminate them again?

And THEN, if memory serves, didn't Wheelie make some statement that the Seekers are very very old and somehow special (the b&w pics of the Model T, for example). That bollixes up the plot point of the first movie--I thought Megatron got trapped in ice, and then the first 'cons to really find him were led by Starscream. Now we find out that early 20th Century the 'cons were already practically crawling all over Earth? HUH? Either the 'cons are the WORST seekers ever (in which case maybe Starscream shouldn't have gotten the Blame Beatdown from Megatron for not finding him sooner--if other 'cons had been searchign for him for the better part of a century), or...the plot sucks. If I didn't know better, I'd swear the writers of ROTF hadn't even SEEN the first movie.

It's entirely inconsistent. I hate plot inconsistencies.

I've said it a couple times before and I'll say it again since your statement is in agreement: Revenge of the Fallen made the first movie completely irrelevant.
