I agree with what you're saying, but...

It's very arbitrary, as we're talking 4 months of data, during which any number of increases or decreases in success rate & XP gain could have occurred. Therefore, restoring people based upon a percentage of their current standings would be very unfair.

Further, I certainly don't get the impression that that's what OTAGO is saying; he seems more hacked off that some people are getting their XP restored by OS while some people are not.

that is exactly what I'm saying. So by restoring the xp of a few % of the overall number of players in this game is your idea of fairness??

Omega Sentinel wrote:A couple of you have short memories of when this game was down for months at a time with no compensation.
Or how about a couple of years ago when everything was reset and you got NOTHING.

I've done everything I can to correct this problem. Exponentially moreso than what had been done with glitches in the past. If you aren't happy with it then I hope you can work through the massive emotional scarring this must have caused. 8-|

I've said it before and I'll say it again, your work is VERY VERY appreciated. But this thread is about fairness to all, not just for a few who PMed you. I do not have a short memory, I remember what happened and you know what.....it was fair.

And before anyone starts to have a go at me trying to defend themselves about how they deserved the restore because they have spent so much time on accquiring the xp and prefecting their setup....I can safely say that I've lost more that everyone in this game bar 5 players that is above me.

Agreed! I remember a previous glitch when I lost tons of xp well at that time felt like it and I lost bios and was not compensated! You should be happy to get what you did! To reiderate yes who cares becuase of the reset anyway coming soon. Finally the way I've noticed is the xp gains should have doubled and no more! I even saw that Greeny lost half xp so... records mean nothing now and should enjoy our final days of Version 1. Thankx again OS for everything!

Everybody has the ability to read the forum. Everybody has the ability to use the PM system.

If people don't use these abilities, how is that OS fault and how is it unfair?

OS can even go the distance and put up a new blurb on the Bulletin Board. Then even those that don't visit the forums can see the message and have the opportunity to PM OS.

Granted, the less people he has to deal with means he has more time to work on V2.

So its going to resset soon, why the fuss you lot say. Well, if this some how happens again when we have V2 running for sometime, is this how you lot want the problem to be "resolved"? Lets not forget, backups are not 100%, there are other factors that could render them useless.

As much as it hurts me to do this, Lucky's right. The forum is there for everybody, but if they chose not to use it then that is their own lookout. Also, -Soundwave- and Rolltide have a set of xp records spanning back well over a year, and have repeatedly offered to add anybody who wants adding to their records. If people have chosen not to take advantage of this, then they cant complain when they dont have any records can they...

Anyone else find it ironic that someones' whining about other people whining to get their stuff back? I just love seeing the brutal irony of this situation.

The bottom line is that most people check their registry on the daily. And if they don't well, they don't. But those that do, probably have a nice approximation as to what they were at before this "loss," so quityerdambytchin' and stop being lazy and just PM the man. He's busy doing other things--like putting out the fires of this situation. He doesn't have time to wipe your tears and hold your hand. Or argue with you about his choice of action regarding this situation.

I'll admit. I PMed an approximation of what I thought my bots had before hand. OS was nice enough to restore my bots to where I thought they were--though I could only guess at the time.

Now, normally, I would agree with most here. It's a glich that hit everyone, and it sucks. Past gliches have happened, and we've all sat back and said 'okay, that's how it is.' And we all deal. I also believe that's how it'll be in the future.

I think anyone who is ticked about it just needs to remember that we're resetting, and that OS's offer to restore XP probably revolves around the fact that the whole thing will be wiped out soon. On that note, it's that last time for a long time we'll be in the positions we're in. (Though, yes, some hard work and a little time will get us as far as we want to go) Now, if OS never responded, I wouldn't have cared and played on until V1's last moments. But he did offer.

And again, I think anyone who's worried about "what happens the next time?" I think that'll be different. Just like that last Whoops, we'll have to deal. Because that game will be scheduled to continue, where this one is meant to die. The choice to say "I'd like to enjoy my bots where they were one last time," or "eh, who cares, just keep going 'til it's done," is just that--your choice. But we shouldn't shun each other over it either.

The fact is that we won't see a big gap in restorations like this again. THE BRIGHT SIDE OF THIS: We have the database backup routine working now. That is great news and a good thing to come of this.
If this ever happens again, you won't see months worth of data lost.

BANG

That's the sound of Lucky hitting the nail on the head.

Bottom line is, in a number of threads, including stickied ones, and in a post on the front page, OS has offered anyone who wants to to PM him the approximate XP of their bots the opportunity to be restored. He offered, I took it up. Hopefully, it'll be possible.

Now, if you're suggesting that someone who plays the game but doesn't post in the forum, will see a huge drop in the volume of XP and not think to check the forum or front page to find out what's going on, then either you're wrong or he's an idiot.

If you're wrong, then there's no issue here, as our "silent player" will either PM OS or decide that he doesn't care about the XP as V2 is on its way.

If you're right, and he's too thick to check the forums or front page, then there'd be no sense in restoring his XP as he's liable to blunder into traffic any day now anyway...
