Original Megatron voice Petition?

Postby MajTom » Tue Apr 15, 2008 11:15 pm

Has anyone done this on any boards for the next movie.
As an old school fan am still upset about Frank Welker not being Megatron. Its like if Lucas had someone else do the voice for Darth Vader.
Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Prime and Frank Welker reprises his role of Megatron in the Transformers 2007 Action Game.
Why not the movies?
We are the ones that buy the tickets and toys and everything else.
Mr Bay did change the Megatrons face after we spoke up.
Frank Welker needs to come back to the fold.

Did you see how the fans of Jericho got the show back?
The sent peanuts to the studios and said "Nuts to them"

Maybe we have to do something like this to get them to listen

Frank Welker sounded horrible as Megatron in the video game. I agree with Bay that changing him was a good idea. That clip from one of the documentaries seen on the DVD where we saw footage of the 2007 Megatron with Welker's vocie also proved quite well too.

As much as I respect frank welker for all of the amazing work he's done over the decades I won't be signing a petition on a "just because" type of mentality that a lot of fans have over this issue!

I agree completely that his voice sounded horrible in the video game, it sounded like he had a severe chest cold rather than being megatron..maybe he did at the time but it was still pretty bad.

Frank Welker will always be megatron to me but in the G1 cartoon and I admire and respect him for that role but this is one petion I refuse to sign.

P.S. and as far as the jericho thing being resurrected well if you had not heard already the show has been terminated again!

P.S.S. Umm if this petition is for the adding of welkers voice to the 2007 movie dvd release which was back in October then how old is this petition ? and well as of now there is ... 182 Total Signatures <-------- I also forgot to add my obligatory laughing emoticon!

Know when to hold em and know when to fold em ?

Except it's not. Lucas got James Earl Jones to reprise Darth Vader for Episode III, because it's the same character throughout the entire saga. In that case, a different voice would not only piss off the fans but cause continuity issues as well.

This Megatron is an entirely different character from his G1 namesake and has a quite different persona. You never saw G1 Megs jump for an Autobot's troath with such ferocity and violence as Movie Megs did. This is a vicious beast, still in his purest Cybertronian form even after millions of years spent on earth. A high-pitched Frank Welker voice won't fit this design. Frank's voice worked for the arrogant leader who made others do his dirty work and bitched off Starscream a lot. It doesn't fit a 35 ft tall mechanical nightmare which'll squash humans himself just for fun.

Also, why does no one complain that Bumblebee's G1 actor should return? His character was actually pretty close to the original. Heck, Cullen didn't do Ironhide and Ratchet was a new guy too. And if the original Jazz voice actor hadn't passed away, would you have clammored for his return? The new voices fit the new redesigns of these classic characters.

While I love Cullen's performance, I'm sure there's another voice actor out there who could've given Prime the same regal attitude with a touch of humor. Liam Neeson could've pulled it off and it wouldn't have been blasphemy, folks.

As for Megatron, what's more important? Having the same actor (whose voice has aged alot and not for the better) on the team just for nostalgia's sake, or getting a new one in order to make the character on screen work?
Let's face it. Casual moviegoers and kids alike probably thought "That Megatron dude sounds pretty kickass with that animalistic growl and the slightest touch of sophistication. What, you say? That Matrix/LotR/Vendetta guy voiced him? Cool, he's pretty good with his commanding voices!"

In your scenario, it would've been "What's with that huge fearsome TF's wimpy voice? Prime sounds scarier than he does! Is this a play on the coughing panting General Grievous or what? Eh, they got the same guy who voiced the original cartoon version of this character? Meh, he sounds lame."

Welker should do a voice similar to the one he used for Malebolgia and Dr. Claw.

So you have Frank Welker dub over Hugo Weaving's lines on a future release of the DVD? That's a lot of work just for maybe ten minutes of fan-wank.

In any case, the 2007 DVD has already been released. Unless you have access to time travel, that petition is kind of pointless now.

IMO, Frank will be remembered for his Soundwave voice, his Megatron voice aint as cool as IMO Corey Burton's.
Having Frank voice Megatron again is like having Sean Connery reprise his role as James Bond in the sequel to Casino Royale.

I dont agree with you but I'll say this.....If they did use Liam Neeson we most likely would never get a sequel.

Most of the characters Liam Neeson portrays dies.

Didn't Jericho get canceled again anyway?

If Bay and everyone were going to have Frank do the voice of Megatron, he would have been signed up at the same time Cullen was.

We got Hugo weaving, all they need to do is make his voice a bit more understandable and we're set.

I have to agree with everyone on this. Hugo Weaving's voice was perfect. I didn't know he had it in him.

But I'll say this, Frank Welker IS a great voice actor. He has a lot of range. He was Scooby Doo, Dr. Claw....but he was Megatron, Soundwave, Rumble and Frenzy all in one show. It was like he was talking to hisself.

Hugo Weaving is awesome! He is a perfect Megatron.
I was so happy when I found he was in the film.
He makes good characters scary like with Elrond in LOTR and bad characters scary as they can be.

Frank Welker is just some random voice over artist who happened to get the role way back when. He is not a good artist at all.He sounds like he is vomiting.

Now I know why Megatron in the game sounds like he is being sick or has been smoking too many cigarettes.

I was looking forward to Hugo Weaving doing the game.

Look how using sludge voiced overrated fusty old men to voice the all new great Optimus Prime turned out.

Its like A great new charater, and they use a man who sounds like he has swallowed glass and sludge and got it stuck in his throat.
Peter Cullen sounds like he is vomiting or something.
I dont think the silly man got any work since the 80s when Transformers G1 finished.

TF2 is a good time to get rid of the loser and get someone good like the man who voices Optimus Prime in Animated. Or Ray Romanao from The Batman. A young man.

Why do people not like Megatrons face? I think he looks great.

Unless you count hundreds upon hundreds of movie promos.

Ray Romano? You mean Rino Romano. There's a Difference.

Seriously, though, Peter Cullen is still good. I dunno about Frank Welker (Who, despite not being chosen for Megatron, still gets loads of work) but Peter Cullen can still do Optimus Prime quite nicely.

Um, Peter Cullen has steadily worked since the g1 transformers series ended!

He's done countless movie promos as shadowman pointed out and tons and tons of car commercials too, I recognize his voice all the time.

Here's his resume on IMDB :P

In terms of the original Megatron voice, if you have not gotten the 2-disc version of the 2007 movie I recommend on getting it. Maybe you will understand why they do not use the original Megatron voice because it did not fit even though they tried to make it work.

Peter Cullen hasnt been with out a voice acting job since 1979 and thats not including all the work he's done on TV ads and movie promos that you here at the begining of the trailers.

Heres two examples of his work just from the Batman movies:

And is all you can say about both actors is that they both sound like their vomiting?????

Is that how limited your responses are????

Well in the 80's he was a voice artist among many.

He did a awefully large amount later from that list but what I meant was that when they cast the first series, G1, he was not a big deal probabely.

It could have been any guy who the people now want back.

Sometimes I think when people ask for voice artists etc from earlier series its not cos they were good but becaause it makes them feel connected. Like nostaligia over good sense.

With this I can agree.......but you really should do some research before you pass judgment on someone based on what he's capable of doing at the age of 62.

I don't take that much notice of voice artists.

He has been going along time.

And I did not know there was a Sabrina the Teenage Witch in 1971.

I only knew about the 90s to 2000s version.

And I was'nt talking trash. I just don't like Frank Welker as much as I like Hugo Weaving.

I believe it was more of a serries of short segments in the old Archie cartoons but I never realiesed that they were done in 71.I always thought it was more like 76.

The site I took that from may have had the wrong year listed I guess but maybe its me that wrong.I remember the Archie cartoon from back in 76 but it may have been reruns at the time for all I know.

She also had a show called "Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies" heres a clip

I definately prefer the 90s to 2000s live series. And the cartoons that followed. But it is interesting to see the clip.
Thanks Sto Va Kor 2000.

Im a fan of the original Megatron and Frank but I don't think he has it anymore, I mean Megatron in the game sounded like he couldn't breath or something..Maybe if Frank watch some old Transformer DVDs he can do a better job, as for now...No thank you.
