Oh well. Poop happens.
So it will stink like Animated?
Animated was good despite the fan-appeal, not because of it. Plus it had lots of nods to less repetitive parts of the canon such as Cancer and Mainframe.
It almost felt like Transform And Roll Out was ticking off boxes on a mandatory form. Optimus, Bumblebee, Starscream and Megatron? Check. Autobots arrive on Earth? Check. Starscream betrays Megatron? Check. Bumblebee befriends a human child? Check.
It was only after the ubiquitous fanwank that Animated started to get really interesting with original characters and less ubiquitous homages, with interesting themes and greater scope.

Anyhow RotF desperately needed a plot, like really badly. Napoleon Dynamite had more of a plot than RotF

It's hard to peg down weather or not you're being sarcastic or if this is your opinion.

I like this news, and I think they've already gone through their fanwank stage with Animated, which I didn't like except maybe for a very few bits that stood out for me (Blitzwing). Otherwise I thought the series was... eh, glad it ended when it did, however many strings it left untied.

I tend to agree too. It's nice to hear that Cullen will be back, if only for nostalgia reasons, but it really could be an indication that they are just going to be treading over old material/ideas/themes, just like the toys at the moment, with repaint after repaint,
But, if you look at the reviews and reactions to the toys from fans, that is EXACTLY what everyone wants! G1 returns! It's the shiznit! Everything gets compared unfavorably to G1 on this and other fan sites. Change is evil!
Nice to see Cullen is back, though. What could be really cool is if Gary Chalk played Ironhide...I think he's got a great Ironhide voice. My feeling though is that Transformers Prime is going to follow the movieverse- OR it's going to attempt to bridge G1 and the movie. Remember the Hub is for KIDS, not collectors, and the movieverse is what is popular with kids.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

My mistake, wrong terminology. Also: can you really count Jetfire in that list? (I just noticed him in there, yay for my observational skills) I mean the only character development I saw in him was from crazy, bearded, and senile old man, to armor. (*Awesome* crazy, bearded, and senile, old man who wielded a giant axe sure, but still.)

Maybe it's becuase we're tired of all these, paper-thin, shallow, poorly-written, underdeveloped stories that do nothing more than sell toys and make stuff look pretty.SlyTF1 wrote:Why is everyone so obsessed with this plot and character development bullshit? We LIKE good plot-driven stories. We LIKE well-developed characters and concepts. We LIKE deeper messages hidden within the story's context that make us think wiser about things.
In a nut-shell, we LIKE quality!
Thus far, two series have contained all of these and more: Beast Wars and Animated. Both of which didn't treat their characters like they were just toys that they were trying to sell and advertise, but were instead treated like fully individual persons in their own right, regardless of their fictional status. Each "main" character was either completely or almost completely three-dimensional (excluding background or minor characters), whereas a good majority of the bot cast of G1 and the live action movies were one or two dimensional at best.
The stories were carefully planned out better, spanning several episodes to develop everything and keep the audience in suspence and awe. Everything didn't come out all at once, and little by little that stories unfolded, growing and evolving into amazing works of art. That's quality.

Beast Wars I agree with you 100% but the only characters in Animated that got any kind of real character delvopment was Optimus Prime, Bulkhead, and Sari and maybe Prowl. Bumblebee and the rest of the show's characters were flat, dull, and 2-D characters especailly the Decepticons and human super-villains.

This just supports my point of why you dont need that in a Transformers movie. You said episodes, assuming it has to be a TV show, because you just cant do movies like that, have 98 movies about the same thing. And since there are only 2 series with character development, and most of the other series where sucessful why do you need it in the movies?

When I first saw Jetfire, I saw him as a cranky old guy who hated everything...yeah,just like all old people... But at the end he sacrificed himself to save the planet, even though Optimus took his body parts and threw them to the ground with no "thank you" he still helped save the world.

I just hope that Cullen doesn't phone it in, he may has well have in the movies, for me, he's probably one of the only reasons to see the movie! For those warm and squishy feelings his voice brings to the show reminding me of days gone by, but thats about it. His voice will probably do the same thing when it comes to this new series, because like many others, he IS Optimus Prime to me, but it MAY be the only reason to watch it!

God this is so on the money! Good one Sabrblade you've hit the nail on the head there!! Quality is the key, you can almost smell bad quality stuff, like Armada, Energon and Cybertron, and yeah they were just dubs of the Japanese series, which most of the time, don't translate well into english anyway, but it just shows a lack of commitment to quality media. You can't fault Animated for this, you can't fault Beast Wars for this, hell I'm going to be controversial and suggest that even Beast Machines can't be faulted for being a bad quality show either! The intent was there to produce quality, even if it didn't turn out to everyones liking!
Throwing Cullen into the mix CAN SUGGEST that it's just a show by numbers, add a portion of Cullen, add a pinch of that and BAM! Instant show! Just add Marketing! But that probably wont produce quality. I just hope that have someone GOOD overseeing the entire production, someone who knows what a good quality show can be, a show that can appeal to kids at the same time appealing to the older fans, EXACTLY what Animated did, we will just have to wait and see.

Oh well. Poop happens.
That is hilarious, for decades now people have been screaming "more G1!" now that Peter Cullen is going to be Optimus again people are saying "it's too G1!"
Yeah well i've never been one of those people. I WANT to see a fresh take (like BW/BM did) on things.
Let Prime and Megatron and all the other "big names" take a back seat for once, let's have them as background characters and see some new oil get some screen time.
Let's see a story that doesn't revolve around the Autobots trying to stop the Decepticons in their mad quest to stockpile energon/collect minicons/chase after the allspark, let's see some interesting human characters that have a set and can hold their own with giant robots and not be annoying and/or there for comedic value.
It can be done. Just not by the two hacks that are writing.

It's hard to peg down weather or not you're being sarcastic or if this is your opinion.
Its not an oppinion its a fact, they did change through the movie.
Yeah.. they changed into a truck, and a jet and a different truck....
