*sighs*

Rated X wrote:Obviously you don’t want to touch the question with a ten foot pole...

That’s cool. Nobody's forcing you to answer it. But I do feel compelled to ask the question for those who might be willing to answer it with something logical...

To be blatantly clear, I speak only for myself here. I like this project a lot. I've said so since we've started seeing the first promo pictures, and became even more enamored by it when I saw the Pretender Starscream homage. Towards the end of last year, I'm sure one could go through this thread and find me stating I would start saving money to help fund the project.

Cut to the present. I've yet to pledge any money to the cause. I didn't save any money like I thought I would for this. Frankly, there are just several other items that I want more than these. I'm also a bit put off that the Starscream and Sunstorm (and all the other seeker homages) are stretch goals. However, without my help and others, this project has the potential to fail. Possible, but not probable.

I need to better manage my spending and my preorders. With less than 3 weeks left to pledge, I need to get off my lazy ass and focus on my budget. You say that there's no risk in just pledging now so why haven't *I* pledged yet? Because of the reasons above. Because I just haven't calculated yet what I want to do. Sure I know the money isn't coming out of my funds the moment I pledge. I know I can add more to the pledge so I can get any stretch goals opened later. But I just haven't decided on my base pledge. I'm not sure with what I really want out of the options available. So I wait. But I'm sure I'll be part of the funding process once all is done.

I hope this has enlightened you a bit. But remember this is only my circumstance. There's likely a plethora of answers to your question, just as unique as each individual is from each other.

So I'm not sure why you feel entitled to an answer. Which has to be the only reason you kick up a fuss here in this thread and continue these witch hunt-like inquiries. And making comments like "well, if it DOES get funded I guess I'll just have to eat my words" doesn't give you any extra credibility. It's just spiteful and does nothing to further conversation about these figures. We get that you're not a fan of these figures. We get you don't feel that Kickstarter is the way that this group should have used to get themselves running off the ground. But that doesn't change that fact that about a week after the start of this project it's already funded at such a large percentage. It doesn't diminish the pledges already made, nor the pledges that will be made.

I could definitely use less of the sensational journalism-like posting that has been going on here.

So after finishing my last message on this thread, I noticed there was additional commentary while I was writing (I really took that long to respond). My apologies for keeping it going while there seems to be a conclusion to all of this. I can edit that response if necessary.

Rated X wrote:Those charts show a pattern in general. Im inclined to believe those last minute pledge increases could very well be the companies themselves coming to the rescue and funding the remainder with their own funds. It would make sense because after all the hype, these companies do want to live up to their word with their fans so they bite the bullet at the bitter end. I have no proof that this is whats actually happening but both chart examples posted seem to be consistent with a last minute rescue surge of pledges to meet the goal. Its also possible this rescue surge includes die hard backers who decide to sell a kidney to help reach the goal at the bitter end. Of course were going to see a fresh new barrage of artwork to try and generate interest in pledge increasing from people who already pledged. (Hence the new BW Dinobot homage and anything that follows) Im fairly confident the faithful will get this project funded for the basics, but not by a landslide. Dont expect the rainbow assortment of repaints to get unlocked. Thats just my prediction and opinion. To each their own.

The project in the second chart, Vitruvian HACKS, was actually fully funded in under a week, they asked for 75,000 and got just under half a million. The first chart was also funded within a week.
Try harder.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Simon Furman gave the Kickstarter a shout out!

https://simonfurman.wordpress.com/2015/03/04/all-this-and-pwt-too/

ALL THIS AND PWT TOO!

Quick shout out for a Kickstarter campaign that’s well worth a little bit of your hard-earned. Play With This Too is a start-up toy company developing its own line of fully interchangeable sic-fi action figures, under the headline banner of Lost Protectors. There’s a brimming barrel-load of pro toy and comics talent behind this highly ambitious and super-cool project, and I’m even onboard to help flesh out the story and the character bios – should we move on to phase two (if that’s any incentive). So dig deep and get yourself in at the (kick)start of what is sure to be the next big thing. You can read more about the project and PWTT here on their main site, and the Kickstarter campaign is right here. Only 25 days left! Don’t delay.

Looking at how much the Mythic Legions kickstarter has shot up since hitting it's initial goal, makes me hopeful that this one will do just as well, if not better in the end.

I'm also deciding. I'm definitely going to contribute at least $130 for the TF homages currently available, but how much more I send their way depends on what gets unlocked.

Scaleface - do you know which heads from the Head Shots packs are TF homages, and which bodies they correspond to? All I could make out at first glance was Terribull being an obvious Horribull homage.

I don't see a good body for Horribull though. Maybe Skelator?

Honestly NONE of the Head Shots are Transformers inspired. Even Terri-Bull is just a bull head. It has NOTHING to do with the Headmaster named Horribull, except being robotic bull-like and having a bad pun for a name. not colored the same, no similar details, plus Horribull had a human head in robot mode.

Image

Image

Image

Heck, if they release the Terri-Bull head in red, I could easily claim it's inspired by Mumbo Jumbo of the Silverhawks!

Image

Anyways, the Skull-FCKR seems to be inspired by the Diablo video game. Xando looks a bit like an alien from The Last Starfighter. Talix looks a lot like the character Scorpio from the Matt Mason toy line. Blight Knight looks like the GI Joe character Big Boa. Captain Baros looks like Bronto Thunder from Dinosaucers. That's all the Head Shots homages I can spot.

Yesterday there were 265 backers, 69% funded.

Today there are only 263 backers, 68% funded.

Is there an explanation for this? I thought once you sunk the money, there was no backing out. :-?

No, as has been repeated from the rooftops many, many, many times, you can modify or cancel your pledge at any time up until the campaign ends. There is another big action figure Kickstarter ending tonight, a bunch of fantasy knights, and it's drawing all the attention tonight on Kickstarter from toy collectors. Luckily that means tomorrow the only other action figure Kickstarter campaign will be the one for the Hillary Clinton action figure, which isn't likely to draw attention away from the Lost Protectors for the 2 and a half weeks that are left.

i was thinking this new homage was to jak from jak and daxter 3 where he wore those colors and ran with a group of "wastelander" characters that, well, lived in the wastelands.

great games and, for me, just as exciting an homage.

no that's dinobot. the name and almost similar colors threw me. the face and colors def say dinobot and it makes more sense. although if it had been jak it could have come with a cool daxter mini drone or bmog.

on the misinterpreted homage front, it wasn't until I was looking at pics of the original Pretender toys to see the similarities of Desolataur and Bloodbath that I realised King Adder was an Iguanus homage and not a Tongue Lashor one.
