Up and coming Kickstarter-funded figure maker Play With This Too has another Play With This Toosday reveal that thrilled fans with the announcement of two figures, one expected and one a complete surprise to most.

Ankhor is a heavy remold of their previously announced Astroblast done to look like the 1988 Pretender Waverider (also called Diver in Masterforce). This figure will be a stretch goal in their Kickstarter this February.

An exclusive recolor of Ankhor will also be available called Mainsail, who seems to be inspired by Max Ray, the "Brilliant Sea Operations Commander" of the Centurions, a Kenner action figure line and cartoon of the 1980s!

Both figures are highly articulated 6 inch tall figures with small transforming Tech Drone partners, and a whole slew of 5mm port weapons and accessories, as well as optional robot heads.

Another fun fact is that Play With This Too will be selling the right to have your head used as the model foe the Ankhor figure in their Kickstarter, so start saving up your money and you might just become... more, much more, than meets the eye!

Wow, there are going to be a lot of perks to attain during the Kickstarter. I'm glad PWTT has been doing these timed info releases: it keeps my attention AND gives me time to put some money aside for February.

Are they going to make a Mon-starr homage next? ;)

I was hoping for Mumbo Jumbo and Flashback from the Silverhawks.

Seems there will be maybe ?four? initial figures in the Kickstarter, then the rest are stretch goals. Probably most mold will have a retail figure, and a Kickstarter exclusive recolor. We have seen 15 figures so far, including homage to GoBots, He-Man, Centurions, and some other lines.

Fun fun fun!

Think that Hasbro currently has the Action Masters TF thing more than covered with the Hero Smashers TF themed toys. Think these toys surpass the 1990's ActionMasters in Articulation, Sculpt and quality.

If Hasbro would add a few themed Pretenders designs in their Hero Smashers TF line. Then I think they'd be no need for these PWTT Pretenders toys, i'm guessing will cost well over $50 for the mass released non-kicker starter toys versions.

Hero Smashers are targeted at fairly small children (younger than the age regular TFs are targeted at). There is no way Pretender characters as Hero Smashers would appeal to a wide enough swath of the collector community to make the PWTT Pretenders obsolete.

Think it looks more like a aesthetics MOTU classics update toy. Should have just done MOTU and WWE toys instead of trying to do TF toys.

Looks like the shirt and under wear are one piece and can come on and off of the figure. Don't really need the dressing barbie outfits elemement added to my TF toys

With the combination of brick former inner 3 inch robots or beast. And the MOTU styled figures. These are a easy pass for me.

:-? Fear these PWTT toys are going to cost well over $50 for the mass released non-kickstarter toys. If the extremely high BMOG figures prices are anything to go by.

1. A new horrible menace that threatens the galaxy, Rawbat!
2. Head Shots Vol. 4 by Aaron Archer
3. Color images of Boneyard, a grim gladiator character.

They really seem to be working to preserve the sculpt whilst retaining articulation, which is nice. They also seem to be doing it the right way (so many toy manufacturers, NECA chief amongst them, use those godawful cut hinge joints with the plastic pins, which look ugly, have poor articulation and break easily). I like the look a lot.

Also, if these guys are reading this, I might add a few suggestions:
>Make the wrists mount on ball joint so they have some waggle motion as well as swivelling.
>Instead of the peg waist, how about reworking it so it has a large ball joint, allowing for a bit of an ab crunch? There doesn't look to be anything in the sculpt that would make that difficult but then I'm no expert.
>Some kind of double joints for the knees and elbows would be cool. Maybe have the ball joints mounted on a hinge allowing for more movement?

Obviously I'm no engineer but I think it might work well.

I wonder if the ab crunch would be praticle, since he's going to be wearing armor on hs body.

There were sketches with double jointed knees and elbows and ball joints in the wrists early on. I wonder if they were dropped, or they are still in development.

Right, I getcha. I would have thought a ball joint at the waist wouldn't clash with the armour- perhaps "ab crunch" was exaggerating it, basically I just think a ball joint would add a little bit of "wiggle" and movement for the waist in directions other than side-to-side.

Of course I can see that if the joint ever got loose it would be a nightmare (a peg would be much easier to tighten) so there is that. In any case, I like the look of 'em and I can't wait to see more pics!

If you want my view on all of this, here goes.

It looks like all of these X-Hasbro employees were aware and stole the Hasbro, Hero smashers toy line ideas Two years ago before they all got fired.

Think these PWTT 6 inch action figures have way too much in common with Hasbro's switch around limbs and switch around body parts from Hasbro's Hero Smashers Marvel and TF toy lines.

Think doing 3rd party 6 inch figures is redundant as the retail market is over filled with them for a very low price points in the form of WWE, Classics MOTU, Spawn, Super heroes and so on. Just can't imagine much demand being there for exspensive 3rd party toy versions.

The problem I see is, Hero Smahers is a terrible toy line. As it is on the borderline of being a failure in sales in most USA retail stores.

Regarding those 2 inch Drones that come with the Six inch action figures PWTT toys. Think it was a mistake for PWTT to partner up with BMOG. Due to those BMOG toys not being well received in the fandom. Also think the BMOG toys were deemed a failure in designs and sales a long while back.

Well, that is a pretty ignorant view. The idea of 6 inch figures with swappable limbs is from the Mantech Line from the 1980s. It's not the idea, it's what you do with it. These are excellent 6 inch molds with great articulation, not shampoo bottles with robot heads like Hero Smashers.

That would be why their Kickstarter exceeded their goals, and conventions have used their toys as expensive exclusives?

The big figure is 6 inches, a large Deluxe, and is HIGHLY articulated. The small figure is 3 inches, a Legends figure. The little figure breaks up into accessories that snap on the arms and back of the big figure as weapons.

So, it isn't a Pretender.

I don't think you could make a Transformer fit inside the figure without making the Transformer inside ridiculously tiny and simple, the shell much bigger, or the shell a lot less articulated. Honestly I think these are as good as the Pretender concept is ever gonna get- it was always one of the stupider sublines, albeit one with some pretty cool sculpts, and I'm glad that the shell designs are getting the love they deserve. The Pretender inner figures were all highly forgettable anyway.

You are not seeing it very well.

The small robot transforms from robot to vehicle, AND breaks up into weapons as an additional mode.

Also, a lot of the 1989 Pretenders had most of their body parts stick on the outside of the shells. Look at Doubleheader, who has to leave his wing on the shell to fit inside. PWTToo just went a step further and made the small robots Triple Changer Targetmasters.
