Thats the easy half. Getting the faithful to pledge was never an issue. But once everyone and their mother has already pledged, where do you come up with the other half ? If the retailers havent chipped in yet, they might be willing to hit the 80 mark and seal the deal. But if this first half already includes BBTS and other retailers, PWTT is screwed. Unless they decide to pledge on their own project just to get it going. And if that happens, we shall never know.

if I was a mod, I'd be wondering if I could ban particular users from particular threads...

I still haven't put in. I like that there's now an option for just Bloodbath and Desolataur but Bitemark and "Hordak" are tempting me.

This has nothing to do with retailers, retailers would be incredibly stupid to bid on this, other than personal interest. Retailers will be able to order their lots once this kickstarter is done. They'll be getting their figures for far less than the 55, remember, the 55 is a reduced price and a bit cheaper than their actual retail prices, which will likely be 60 without shipping.
If you pledge now, the 55 buys you a figure with shipping, plus pays for the production of up to 2 more figures. This is literally here to fund production of the first batch. No retailer will be backing this in order to get stock, they would be losing money if they did, because then they wouldn't be able to sell them for retail prices. The only reason retailers would back this is to get their hands on some of the kickstarter exclusives, like BBTS does with BotCon stuff.

Once this is funded, retailers will order their batches, and sell those. The backers won't be the only people buying this, usually only a relatively small fraction of those interested in something will actually pre-order or back something. Like Iron Skies, that movie was crowdfunded, and that movie sold more tickets and DVDs after the movie was finished and released than they did during funding.

I get what your saying about retailers. But then who is the "army of ten" option supposed to be for ? Why would a fan want ten of the same figure ? PWTT obviously factored in the possibility that some retailers might want in on this. Assuming youre right about retailers, then that means this kickstarter has a lo g way to go. Pledges are already starting to slow down. Everybody who knows of or cares about this project is already in on it. How many people do you really think are "on the fence" ? $37,000 worth ? I think not, but thats just my opinion. This isnt exactly an impulse buy type of item that you po der on and watch reviews or read forums about. The figure doesnt exist in plastic form yet.

A rep for PWTT said over on TFW that the kickstarter was the only way for the retailers to get stock of the kickstarter exclusive figures.

We get you think it is going to fail, X. Do you have to post daily that you still think that? What are you going to do when it succeeds? (That last question was rhetorical...)

On the army of 10, have you heard of troop builders? Back when I was heavy into Star Wars, I bought a Stormtrooper troop builder set, which was multiple storm troopers. That makes sense for characters that appear in fiction in large numbers. I've seen people comment about various figures and troop building. Heck, I made a comment about it when the Allicon's came out. The initial price was too expensive, but when they went on clearance, I snagged a couple more to fill out my army.

I think it's great that PWTToo is giving fans options. Perhaps it won't sell any of the armies of 10. But, I really like it that we have choices. I am curious to see if anyone gets one of those packages. We'll see in 26 days, eh?

I was thinking a similar thing, but this year's Kickstarter from the Four Horsemen (well known toy designers) had 12 days to go before hitting goal. It just reached it's final stretch goal, but that was only 20K from their main goal of $140K.

So, I share your concern in that PWTT still has a ways to get to their main goal. I believe they will do it, but I am afraid they will fall WAY, WAY short of their stretch goals that unlock the characters I really want.

You say "when it succeeds" but you should be saying "if it succeeds". Unless you have a crystal ball. I dont. Maybe it will succeed. But if you start seeing them on e-bay pre-order for $80 and up the next day, then you know it wasnt the fans that made the Kickstarter a success. It was the scalpers.

I did the 3 Alicons, 6 Sharkticons, 3 Sweeps 15 Junkions, etc. But I did it because there was was actual fiction in the form of a cartoon to justify it in my display. If you count PWTT's tweets and facebook posts as fiction, than by all means go ahead and spend $900 on 10 Skullgrins with bat heads.

Wheres the option where I can pledge $10,000 and PWTT flys me to New York for dinner and a meet and greet ? I know it sounds like a joke, but another Kickstarter Scaleface pointed out actually gave fans that option.

That was a subtle shot at your commentary over the last couple of weeks. Go back and read what you've been writing and then come back and chide me. Indeed, I don't know if it will succeed. But you seem awfully sure of yourself that it won't. And it's getting more than tiresome. Will you be willing to stop it and wait and see how it comes out? You could, you know, completely avoid this thread...

How is that relevant? Okay, I'll bite. I guess I much prefer more options and more freedom to choose what I like. I also recognize that other people have other preferences. That also doesn't mean that this has to be run exactly like some other kickstarter. PWTToo is choosing a rather unique approach, and I am enjoying watching it unfold. It appears that you arguemnts are all about how none of this matches "Rated X's" preferences, and therefore it's crap. If that is all you have to offer, again, I ask to leave over until the kickstarter is done...

Anyone that has watched a kick starter from start to finish knows that it sometimes takes a long time for the goals to be reached. As stated a few posts up, the recent Four Horsemen's Mythic Legions KS didn't reach it's goal until it was around 18 days into it.

Lighten up. Have fun. Wish you were in Miami so we could meet up and down a couple beers at a local bar. Will PWTT succeed ? Who knows ? But I'm entitled to my opinions about it. Honestly, there's really not much to talk about on this thread since he figures don't actually exist yet. So naturally the kickstarter concept is going to be a hot topic on this thread. Ditto for the bizarre barrage of artwork PWTT hammers out daily. Maybe if there was some actual plastic out there besides a 3D print, we could find more to talk about on this thread. As far as PWTT being the butt of all jokes, i wasnt the first one here to start and I wont be the last. When somebody decides to make hero mashers for adults and send someone to promote them on TF fan sites, you can expect a bit of a sideshow. Go to page one of this thread and you will see I supported PWTT until they announced exactly what the project was going to be. Once I found out it was going to be superheroes vs. reptiles vs. skeletons with robots as the afterthought my mood quickly soured.

In all honesty, because this thread is very entertaining.

I said it before and Ill say it again, if the kickstarter succeeds, im prepared to eat my words.

But if it fails (or succeeds via scalpers) none of the PWTT supporters seem to be willing to eat their words.

Nice frigging escape clause. SO if they fail you are right and if they succeed you are right.

What the HELL is "succeeda via scalpers"? You mean if people buy extras and resell them at a higher price? By that definition every Action Figure Kickstarter, every botcon set and every SDCC exclusive just "succeeds via scalpers"!

Gothitropolis Ravens are going for about 3 times their Kickstarter price on ebay right now. Are they failures? I guess so.

BTW - Nice promo picture of Catastropheles!

Really?

C’mon seriously ? You don’t get what I mean by "succeed via scalpers" ??? :BANG_HEAD:

If scalpers pledge in hordes and fully fund the project, it will be noticeable. If PWTT listings start appearing on e-bay/small retailers after the kickstarter ends, then we all know it wasn’t the "supporters" who pledged most of the $80,000. This happens with TFCC subscription service figures and Botcon sets every year. People pre-order them with the intention of selling them and list them with "place holder" images the moment their pre-order is confirmed. Maybe in terms of kickstarter success, these people count, but it doesnt speak much for fan support of the actual product.

As I type this, the kickstarter has 217 "backers". But how many of those backers are actual fans and not scalpers ? :-?

High numbers doesn’t necessarily mean fans.

Big difference here though is that PWTToo figures are made to order. People who buy 10 of 50 of the same figure to resell all or most later are not keeping people from getting them during the Kickstarter, they don't run out. they bulk buyers are just being retailers. No matter how many get ordered order, it's not stopping people from buying their own. At Botcon there is a limited number of sets.

If this goes through I'll be definitely selling off the figures I don't want (I went all in), and will be selling them for whatever the market for them will allow.

Does that make me a scalper?

Most of the pledges right now are smaller tier, so I highly doubt those people went in with the mentality of putting up their money, and then waiting a full year in hopes of POSSIBLY doubling their money reselling those few figures.

See, if this campaign succeeds it is only because people are buying the figures! How pathetic... ???

Back in the realm of the actual toys, they just announced an additional Tech Drone pack called D-Fuzz vs. R-Mix. D-Fuzz is colored like G1 Scorponok, and R-Mix is colored like G1 Fort Max. The 2 pack will be $20, and will automaticallly be unlocked when the project funds.

58% funded! Once we hit $80K it will automatically unlock the first stretch goal! Here are D-Fuzz and R-Mix!

Don't take the wait and see approach. If you're on the fence about pledging do so early so we can unlock a ton of extra figures and accessories! In the long run this helps everyone out.

Indeed, I was hoping to be able to get one of each style of tech drone without getting too many bigger figures. I'm already stretching it with the accountant here, but $25 for the head I want and $20 for these two... It might be doable. I'll have to think on it. Image

(59% funded, just over $47K as of this post. I did not imagine it would be this successful at this time.)

I believe you have to purchase at least one figure for $55 to purchase ANY add-ons. SO that would be $55 for one figure and his tech drone, then $25 for the three hreads, and $20 for the two tech drones, totaling $100.

Right, but to get the figure I want, I have to buy the two pack. So, I'm looking at $125 (including the head set I really want) moving up to $145 (for these two drones). That's stretching it for me, personally. Still, I am very seriously considering it...
