Pick up where we left off. I would suggest thatyou do the no stat, 1 FPR or 1 SKL weapons due to your lower level.

Well since HMW v2.0 is back on hold...again, I will start back up the weapons research. There are some new weapons out there to be tested. So lets get to testing those weapons out.

WE will put the weapons research on hold until a later date. I believe Caelus modified them a bit. Plus the uncertainty on HMW's status being up in the air. Once we know if HMW is staying (and in what capacity) or being done away with, then I will make the decision on an offical weapons research program. Feel free to post your own findings and experiences, but we will put a hold on an official research program right now.

The weapon rebalance changes quite a lot of things at the lower levels (0-1). First of all, since there are so many no recharge guns out, bots don't throw any punches around while reloading. This might make it less important to build a well rounded bot (ie, one with decent guns and strength for the reloads) and better to just spend the points getting to better weapons.

The DoI laser feels like it got neutered to me, I remember it having moderate-very heavy damage before. Now it does moderate-heavy, which is the same as the starter xray laser. I don't know if the words (moderate, heavy, very heavy) correspond exactly to how much damage a gun does but in my experience it matches up very closely. It's basically never correct to take a gun with short recharge, because there's almost guaranteed to be a weapon with the same damage and the same requirements but no recharge.

It now takes three points in skill/firepower to get to a weapon that is significantly/any better than the xray, with one exception: the only early weapon that has moderate-very heavy damage now is the CO2 shotgun. I reset a bot with only 1 frp, 1 skl, and the shotgun, and the higher damage makes him pretty deadly!

The only other early strategy I see is to just run with the xray, because it's about as good as you'll get without some investment, and put all your xp into strength or speed. My guys that tried to mix firepower/speed or firepower/strength before now just get shot up though.

I'm going to have to bow out of the testing at the higher levels. I haven't been around much lately and probably won't be present that often in the foreseeable future. Best of luck, all.

laser guided sword seems slighty better than gatling gun now

seeing as that everything's been really screwy recently,... I did a bit of testing on my own, and here's what I noticed:

1) The Dol is still great in the 2 FP slot, but it now needs a bit of STR to be effective (barely hits in the 20's now with 0 str, with damage sometimes dropping below 10... definitely not good.)

2) The sniper rifle is pretty good now. No recharge plus consistent heavy (around 16-18 with 0 str) damage make it work the way the semi auto used to... speaking of which, haven't been able to check the ol' SAR...

3) The double barrelled plasma shell shotgun has been horribly neutered!!! man, this used to be my favorite weapon too,... Now the damage range just seems to be too unreliable.

No, not dead. Yes, very occupied. No thank you, I already had some.

In short, the research we still request to continue per previous postings with emails sent to the address posted. They will be compiled and aggregated; getting the logic to do all this magic has taken a back burner but will resume. As soon as results are known, they will be shared, but every piece of data gathered will only help us in the long run.

So collect as you can (whenever the dang thing is running). Even though I don't have a Dominoes "30 minutes or free!" guarantee, every mission collected will be processed; in time.

Scantron wrote:Wingspan, how do you want us to report the particular weapon we're collecting the missions to track? For instance, I'm hoping to harvest some Gatling Gun data tonight, but I didn't notice a place in your Directory Structure template to indicate the weapon of interest.

Don't need it. The process I'm working on will harvest the weapon used directly from the mission log. So we'll be getting all our weapons (with detailed configurations) and all other weapons used (with less detaild configurations). It's all about the regular expressions (regex for the rest of this thread). Since Seibertron's scripts generate mission logs in a consistent format, regexes will parse that format. I'm capturing every hit, miss, character involved, and damage dealt. I'll be adding in avoids, finishing the processing logic, and have XLS pivot tables to play with later this week.

Good question though :) Ok, back to geeking out and getting this working :P

Alright guys I want to help out as much as I can, but my brain hurts today. Long day at work. I'm going to post a link to my team.(I hope, 1st time trying this). Then ya"ll can let me know what I can do to help.http://www.seibertron.com/heavymetalwar/team_view.php?id=43208

EP, Right now I've got the X-Ray Laser Cannon, Energon Crossbow, Photon Eliminator Rifle, Electric Cannon and Battle Blades equipped. I will add laser pistol soon and will report on each.

As you all are compiling data (saving mission and character files as plain HTML) here's a process to compile what I need submitted.

Data Gathering Process wrote:-- First, create a folder with today's date and your user name on your local hard drive (e.g. Wingspan-2007-12-09).

-- Shortly after a mission's completion, create a new folder under today's folder labeled as the mission number. Save the mission log as a plain HTML to tihs new folder.

-- Save a copy of each character's profile view as a plain HTML file to the same mission log folder.
-- -- In Internet Explorer, this is accomplished as File -> Save As -> File Type: Webpage, HTML Only
-- -- If using Internet Explorer, the Save As will automatically give each file a unique name (Firefox will not, I tried...)
-- -- If using IE 7 or Firefox, tabbed browsing makes this quick.

-- After you're done collecting for the day, compress today's folder into a ZIP file.

-- Once the ZIP is collected, email to me at iamflame_at_gmail.com (naturally, replacing the _at_ with @). Make the subject line - HMW Weapons Research: User Name Date like you named the first folder.

Example Directory Structure wrote:Wingspan-2007-12-09
-- 875698
-- -- 875698.html
-- -- Bombadeer.html
-- -- Jazzrules.html
-- -- Autobot3.html
-- -- Uncrazzamatic.html
-- -- Deceiptibum4.html
-- -- etc. etc.
-- 897788
-- -- 897788.html
-- -- characters etc. etc.
-- 9134000
-- -- etc.

Please collect these files shortly after the mission completes; we want to avoid the possibility of character resets fudging data.

Saving the missions to group days will help me ensure I'm only processing each mission once (and not counting it more than once if multiple volunteers are submitting the same day). It will also help me manage data input so every person is sending one file for each day.

EP, keep tasking new volunteers as you have been. As data comes in (which will be harvesting for Bots and Cons and everything else) the gaps will slowly become clear. I'll communicate that back along with initial findings and areas of new concern later this week. I'm not going to be sharing anything to early though; I want to validate my #s so I'm not posting half-arsed nonsense. :D

Lastly, a final note: The Cons (lead by Tammuz, I believe) did something like this forever and a day ago. I remember the rumors of it before I took my HMW break. The process we're going through now though will slag what they are using and will begin to collect real statistics on armor viability.

Peace.

Works for me. I went ahead and bought all the ones I didn't have yet. And I already have some missions using the X-Ray Laser I could pull up...

Post by ps2man32 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 8:55 pm

I can test those. On a note with out official testing, the paralyzer fluids does better then you would think. I have faced a few in the areana and it did better then I thought. Same with the CO2 shotgun. I can't tell you how good, but I have lost to the paralyzer fluids.

Alright. Here are the weapons I want you to test out. Coordinate with Wingspan.

Underwater And Surface-To-Air Cannons
Plasma Blaster
Sawed-Off C02 Shotgun
Poisonous Paralyzer Fluids
Lightning Rifle
Wrist-Mounted Stinger Launcher

I'm willing to do that, if you still need to, since I don't think my team has enough XP (or Energon, heh) yet for a lot of other configurations. Plus I already have an X-Ray laser anyway.

My team's profile.

Just tell me what sort of setup/data you need, specifically.

High Levels (7-10) => Scantron
Middle levels (3-6) =>
Lower Levels (0-2) => Dragonslayer, Wingspan

To get raw weapon data too, we can also scavenge from Decepticons, Maximals, and Predacons. Stalk their teams, download their result files, and submit as well. In general though, the benefits of known our own tactics and armor will be far more beneficial and scavenging should be a last resort, but if in a week we're still short it's something to consider.

That is also a possibility. If nothing else, it gives insight on their configurations and their weapons of choice. I think that maybe another thing we can look at.

He dropped out due to personal reasons. I edited my post that I assigned him weapons. I don't know if Chocolate Thunder is volunteering or not.

If a level 0 or 1 'Bot wants to volunteer to just do the basic weapons, I am more than happy to pay for the all the costs for that volunteer.
