OK, so the slingshot idea obviously has some momentum. So, I propose an idea which is an amalgam of what has been discussed.
1) Point system:
Although a point system can be a pain in the ass to calculate, I think it is necessary in order to establish criteria that gives bots of all levels the opportunity to compete and win.
2) Single mission performance:
The winner will be determined based on the best single mission performed by a player, rather than taking the aggregate of missions over time. I don't have time to compute a bunch of scores. The point system will simply take too long for the individual players to calculate for each and every mission. Since only the best mission will be counted, if your bot does not score many kills for a given mission, you don't have to calculate the points for it. If your bot scores several kills, then you probably want to go ahead and calculate the points for it.
3) Kill-shot points:
Points are only accrued for kill-shots. Only kill-shots count. Even if you damaged a con down to %1 of life, if you do not score the kill-shot, it does not count.
4) Slingshot bonus:
If you score a kill with a slingshot, then you will receive a slingshot bonus. This will help the lower level bots even more, since they don't have access to powerful weapons anyway. The slingshot bonus DOES NOT COUNT if you score a kill using a tactic. Strafe and ramming kill-shots will not receive the slingshot bonus even if your bot happens to be armed with a slingshot. This will make things fair between strafers and rammers.
The points per kill-shot will be calculated as follows:
1) add 5 points
2) subtract your level
3) add the level of your opponent
4) add 5 points if slingshot was used to score the kill (excluding tactics)
Examples:
L0 kills an L2 WITH slingshot:
1) + 5 points
2) - 0 points
3) + 2 points
4) + 5 points
Total: 12 points
L4 kills an L2 WITHOUT slingshot:
1) + 5 points
2) - 4 points
3) + 2 points
4) + 0 points
Total: 3 points
I think this should level the playing field between higher and lower level bots.
What do you think? I think we should give everyone a week to sign up. If you sign up, then you will qualify to receive an equal portion of the 500,000 energon prize just for playing. In order to receive your prize, you only have to submit your score for one mission. If you do not submit a mission score, then you will not receive any energon. That energon will be divided among the other players.
