Re: Powercore Combiners - Huffer with Caliburst (Transformers Universe Wave 3?)
I agree with Megatron Wolf. I also thought a lot of the Powerlinx figures suffered from having to be combiners.
And, I also want an updated Huffer. Once Brawn comes out, I'll have modern versions of all the original mini-bots, except Huffer.
I will take this with a pinch of salt, but I do like the idea of Targetmasters, and since it is easily doable, I find it easy to believe in.
And if it does turn out to be true that you can take all the figures apart and put them back together just about any way you want, then that would be cool. I, personally, have a deep desire to kitbash, but I just don't have the raw talent, skills or time to do it. So I would love to be able to use existing figures to make new characters. And I would simply be careful and not overdo it. Plan what parts you want from what figures, then just take those figures apart and put them back together the way you want, just one or two times.
Anyway, we'll see, eventually.

So far I'm not impressed.
I think the thing that bugs me the most is that Huffer is paired with Caliburst. I'm just assuming it's a mock up and that nothing on there is ment to be on there other then the word TRANSFORMERS and POWER CORE COMBINERS. I could accept Huffer with Pipes, and it would make way more sense to your average Tranformers fan.
So far I'm happy to see the Universe lettering on the packaging, but less then happy to hear it's going for an Armada feel. Armada was a good "gateway" line into collecting because there wasn't a lot, it wasn't expensive and the one saving grace from it was Unicron.
I'm also very skeptical of everyone combining with everyone like it's one big TF toy orgy. If it is to be like that, I'd rather see nothing but teams for the next year and no stand alone figures. For example, make the Predicons, make them look G1, and have them combine... that's both predictable AND wanted. But what if they did the Insecticons, or the Omnibots and made them combine into gestalts? Give them new Gestalt names and maybe even some new members and no one would see that shift coming and fans would still be cool with it.
Lately everyone who thinks 4chan is a good site for anything other then giving your eyes crabs can go choke it over there and never come back. Ever.

For the record, Patrick Stewart's Comments were first made November 18th, and were largely laughed at then, and are now completely shot to pieces.

The more I think about the line description the more I think it's bull sh*t.

Ugh! I hate gimmicks. Just give me the figure that goes from robot to alt mode. I don't want lights, sounds, or figures that can be taken (fall) apart. I don't want them to be able to combine with every other figure out there. I just want figures that look good and transform.
Doing all this other crap takes away from what the toy is designed to do. Annoying.
Or, if you want all kinds of stupid new gimmicks, jam them in the movie toys. Don't put them in the Classics/Universe line that is supposed to reference older lines of toys.
Hate to say it, but gimmicks have been a part of the line from day one. Starting with Rubsigns and spring loaded missiles, then in a year it was combining followed by even more the next year, and Triple changing, headmasters, targetmasters, and so on. Having a line referencing an older line (in this case G1) still leaves plenty of room for gimmickry as that line was equally as full of such things. I do agree that in some cases it does extremely limit the design of the figures (I'm looking at YOU, Energon Autobots!) But not all gimmicks are a detriment to the figures themselves.
- Sam
You are correct. Older lines did have gimmicks. I should have phrased my post a little better.
Spring loaded missles don't interfere with the base character. Neither do rubsigns. My frustration comes in when the gimmick interferes with the basic character. Headmasters bugged the crap out of me. If you lose the little guy that comes with a Headmaster, your guy doesn't have a head. IMO Pretenders were awful. They made those shells for the robots to hide in. As a result, the transformers figures themsleves suffered. Adding lights and sounds sometimes intereferes with transforming the figure, and sometimes how the figure looks.
I would hate to trade quality figures for being able to pull them apart and put them back together in different ways.

When is the next round of questions for hasbro? methinks maybe we should go right to the source and demand the nitty gritty answers.

The thing about 4chaners, associated Anon, and similar others is the following:

HA. That is funny. I completely believed that Hasbro was going to make some Powercore combiners. After reading the other stuff that guy posted, I laughed a lot. As irritating as it is to have people just make stuff up, it is kind of funny.

So beyond the non-picard Patrick Stewart's craptastic reports of the toys being all pull-apart and such.
At least we know that the "Power Core Combiners" is something trademarked by Hasbro, and filled on the 5th of November. Am I right that that is the only solid piece of information we currently have?

Could be anything, then. Powermasters redux. Pretenders done right. Torsos full of "mech alive" gears or light-and-sound boxes. Electrically active Minicon ports with battery packs in the bulks and lights/sounds/movement in the Minicons. Anything.

Hence why it's been called a mock-up packaging.
