The below summarizes some questions I've asked which have not yet been answered directly.
Question, how do we determine which faction won/is winning?
(Points, mission wins, tournament segment wins?)
Question two, to support the nature of this being a faction tournament, my thought was to have the Matrix change hands when the other faction pulls ahead - the acquiring team would be whomever wracked the most kills on the previous holder. That, however may be unreasonable. But, acquiring the Matrix should be hard. So, to summarize options (plus a few others)..
-- Matrix goes to daily winner (by total points)
-- Matrix goes to most kills on holder when faction pulls ahead
-- Matrix goes to whomever skills 6 or more kills on holder
-- Matrix goes to most kills, period (different from daily winner; daily winner is points)
Question three, can the Matrix VOLUNTARILY be transferred to another faction member BEFORE a segment begins? (ok ok, this one's new, just thought of it)
Question four, tournament segments - I still like the idea of 1 day on, 2 days off; running form 1/17/2009 through 2/11/2009 using that format gets 8 segments - running weekly (5 days on, 2 days off) gives us 4. Choosing one mission per character per range was a balancing suggestion given we can't use 5s and 0s because we never know when those will be generated for us. If we choose a wider range we'll need a new mission selection technique. So...
-- What range is preferred? (1 on/2 off, 5 on/2 off, other?)
-- What mission selection will be used? We will NOT be automating results so we must have some filter to keep calculations reasonable.
Question five, do we include Bot/Con missions at some point (the drone idea)? If we do, do we allow a larger mission pool for selection or the submission of more missions? Also if we do, I need a few mad scientist volunteers who got them running (for the narrative) - whomever scores best gets the write-in.
Question six, do we try to balance at all if once faction shows up in more force than the other?
Question seven, are these points agreed to?
Recommend Points wrote:-- 1pt per kill
-- 3pt per participating character kill (not all teams are participating)
-- 5pt per matrix holder character kill (matrix holder team)
-- Matrix holder team gets a +1pt bonus for each kill (to balance threat and given advantage)
-- 2pt sole survivor
-- 2pt top of mission
-- 2pt bonus for 3+ kills (in 6 slot mission)
-- 5pt bonus for all kills (in 6 slot mission)
And question eight, how the slag do we track voting on this stuff?
Done.

As this is only a 2 faction tournie, it should just go to the faction with the most mission wins, no need for a complex tournie scorign structure here, especilly as it is the first tourniment either of you have run.

I'd just give it to whoever has taken the most the most kills/points that day for the dominant faction.

NO.

Im not keen on a stop start tourniment. The only time I've ever been in favour of a stop start strategy was when we were thinking of doing a war map tournie with a turn based strategy style.

I'd not give the Matrix holder a bonus.
I'd also not give a bonus for hitting the matrix holder, becuase if his faction stay's dominant, you're gonna end up with the matrix holder consistently having less points than those from the other faction.
Most of those others I quite like.

I agree with Red here. That was kinda my plan for it.

Agreeing with Red

Sensing a pattern here...

My original plan wasn't to have any days off and work out the story for the first day during the second. Wingspan advised me against that, and that's why I came up with the 5 on 2 off. It doesn't feel like a tournament if you're off more then you're on to me.

NO.
At this point, that would practically hand the Maximals a win.
Wingspan wrote:Question six, do we try to balance at all if once faction shows up in more force than the other?
Not sure I understand the question.

This isnt until mid January. You have plenty of time to sort everything out. No need to set a deadline for the questions.
Just aim to have a reasonably final set of rules ready for a week before the tournie starts.
That said, I tend to be working on my tournie's development all the way through the fortnight prior to it.

Are you still planning on going ahead with this? (I hope so - im liking the way this is looking) If so, you've got the end of jan/early feb as your slot when the game will be yours.
The only condition is that you incorporate a very small and easy event into the end...
If you don't want it, im sure it can be filled, but the offer is there for you guys as you came up with the idea first.

Also, to all fuzz-buts/squishies, are your team bios up to date? I'd like to start fleshing out the pre-cursor story but need characters with which to do it. Please post your preferences for canon and home-brewed character inclusion HERE soon.
AZ, in the end though, I consider this your baby. Either way is very good and I'll provide much input but it's your call. I'm just here helping to birth. So let me know when your water breaks and.... *gets tackled by taking the analogy too far police*

My bios are not up to date and might not be for a little bit. Been busy with work/army/here/family/travelling/god knows what else and I'm at like 84 hours during the past week and will end up with around 120 hours before my friday on sunday. Then four days off FINALLY. I will attempt to work on them for you guys.

and are there sing ups like the scalp hunt, or is everyone involved automatically?
i assume its wins per side, or is it bots per person?
i also assume arena doesnt count
sorry, i havent been here long enough to actually be involved in a tournie, and want to know whats goin on.

Apologies for the delay in this tournament and the lack of updates. It will still be going ahead just postponed for a week or two as the tournament organizers get it all set up. The original person running the tournament has changed. As soon as we have a more precise update, more information will be posted.
