When Josh Dumaael says: "But we cannot make a stand without the airforce." Who else thought that sounded a little propaganda-ey. /:) I'm lookin' at you Mr. "I love working with the military." :-?

If you're facing giant evil alien robots and two of them can fly (Starscream and Blackout), wouldn't you want airborne help?

Whoops. But the point remains the same. Flight-capability is an advantage over the enemy.

Lennox saw first hand what air power could do to these creatures when they shot the **** out of Scorpy in the desert. He knows they can be hurt with the proper air cover.

I personally just wouldn't have brought that kind of violence down into the middle of a modern city.

I see both sides of the argument. Air superiority in any modern warfare is a very large key to winning.

On the flipside to that, he made it sound like the only branch of the military that could possiblly fight giant outer space robots is the Air Force. I think that any branch of the armed services could hold their own, if need be against the Decepticons with the Autobots help.

The line did also come off as a recruitment commercial. "Join the Air Force, see the world, and fight transforming alien lifeforms as only we can."

Also worth noting is that in G1, whenever the military was involved it was almost always the Air Force or events took place around, near, or in an Air Force base.

I think that line's fine, but who in the right mind would want to hold a battle with giant robots in the middle of a city? Especially one that wasn't evacuated beforehand. That simply isnt a wise move...

I really don't think that there is anything wrong with that line, but the line that I do have a problem with is the one with Mikaela, when she's in the towtruck and she turns to Bumblebee and says "I'll drive you shoot." Well, duh, she's in the driver's seat, so that line was basically a throw away imo.

Oh, and I love your sig, what vehicle is Soundwave supposed to be in that pic?

It's a fan-made concept for a Movie Soundwave. He turns into an armored communications van (Balkan-something)

Very true.

Well, they are in a generally land-locked region, so I seriously doubt they're going to be looking to the Navy or Marine Corps for assistance. And all Army has in the way of airpower are attack helicopters, and Lennox's team are Air Force special ops...

Swerve wrote:Also worth noting is that in G1, whenever the military was involved it was almost always the Air Force or events took place around, near, or in an Air Force base.

I think they had a couple of Army-related bases in a few episodes.

I think part of their thought was that they'd manage to loose themselves in the environment and the Decepticons wouldn't be able to find them - until Lennox inadvertantly exposed their position to Starscream (remember, he mistook Starscream for one of their own jets). By that point, it was too late to move the battle to another location, as Brawl/Devastator basically pinned them in.

That's so cool, me and my brother were just discussing what Soundwave's alt. mode should be and that's what we both agreed on, I hope the writers get wind of this piece of fan art.

A better question would be why did they not tke the cube to Nellis Air Force Base?

It logic to use an Airforce.Based on what the humans saw before hand,If you brought ground based forces, they would get chewed out.No modern conflict was won without an airforce. The biggest plot hole was why did they got to a urban area.Well it would be logical to do so from a military veiwpoint, seeing how often tanks, aircraft, ect have a hard time in urban combat. However U.S. military forces would try to avoid fight in a city,to avoid civilian deaths.

Aircraft typically have a tough time in urban combat because it is difficult to maneuver between buildings and to pinpoint targets without "painting" them. You still have to worry about collateral damage.

Tanks don't really have as difficult a time in urban combat. The biggest concern there is again, manuverability. They can't move as quickly and as easily surrounded by buildings as they can out in the open. There is also the concern of being pinned by artillery or weapons with armor piercing capability that can easily be moved and out flank them. Typically in those situations, they send in infantry to help support or clear an area before bringing in tanks.

Unfortunatley none of this applies to the Decepticons, who do not value human life, and would just as soon level the city since it or the humans are of no value to them.

I've seen those and other pictures of Soundwave along with pictures of Ravage. He was the spare tire stored on the back of the vehicle and looked really cool. Definitely still showed his G1 jaguar roots while still remaining very functional plus the way the tire unrolled gave him a spiked looking back.

I've also seen pictures of someone playing around with the idea that the roatating dish on the top of the vehicle transformed into Laserbeak.

The movie was meant to portray the US military in a positive way. So sure, I suppose they could have meant it to be a "love the airforce" propaganda bit. I didn't see it that way though.

Kind of ruins the mythology of the story to look at it that way. With what little there was. I'm not one to take a movie apart and point out things...unless they're interesting...to me.

Pointing out US propiganda in a MICHAEL BAY film seems like a daunting task. THERE'S SO MUCH OF IT!!!!

lol

But in all seriousness, if I was him, I'd want Airforce backup too.
