A thought about Soundwave

Motto: "I'd just like to remind you all that I'm best. Thank you."
Weapon: Mighty Ear
I'm just watching G1 episodes I didn't see, and I'm onto AutoBeserk, and I was just thinking, about Soundwave.

I was thinking, what if his bland, cold personality was down to his symobiotic partners, the cassetticons? I'm thinking that maybe they all represent parts of his own true personality which is obviously shared between them. Rumble and Frenzy represent his childishness, maybe. Ravage is his aggression. Laserbeak is his cowardice, and I don't know the others so well.

Obviously we wont know either way but, just wondering what people's thoughts on that were.

Well that is a very intresting idea, and is more then plausable.

But lets learn more about this very intresting and mysterious character, in a way that only James Lypton can bring us...

Wow, it's been a long while since I was last in here... oh well.

Like you, I've been watching G1... my brother just got me the English-Chinese boxset for my birthday last month. We just finished watching "The Core" last night. But anyway, I've always liked Soundwave, always thought he was the coolest. Doubtful that Rumble, Frenzy, and co have any hidden personalities of their master Soundwave, but... anything's possible.

thats a cool idea and works..
lazerbeak and ravage are definatly different from other transformers
being beastmodes also having no voice

ratbat, rumble and frenzy have seperate historys tho

ratbat would be his conniving side

overkill, slugfest and squalktalk, beastbox(squalkbox)
are the others
also then you've got to consider blasters tapes
again very interesting idea tho

Well you don't necessarily have to apply what I'm saying about Soundwave to Blaster, they might both be cassette players with cassetticons but that doesn't mean they should be treated identically.

However, I'll roll with that notion.

Personally, I think it may work in totally the opposite way. Blaster has all the personality where he cassettes really don't. Now I'm only saying that because I haven't seen them do an awful lot. Ever.

good point
mayby the beast cassetes are more connected than the 'manbots'

ok what about this; soundwave splits his spark to give life to the beast tapes but he uses other sparks to make rumble & frenzy (or one spark split in two- hence the 'childlikeness'

blaster could have recruted his cassetacons

I don't really think many would apply for a job that involves sitting in some emotionless robots chest for any length of time and being deployed and recalled at will to perform tasks they may or may not have a personal interest in.

All of Soundwave's cassettes, and Soundwave himself, share one common trait, and that is their sworn loyalty to Megatron (barring Ratbat in certain continuities). I'd find it more likely to belive that loyalty all came from one source as opposed to that they just all really liked Megatron or believe in what he stood for. I mean look at Rumble/Frenzy, they seem like they couldn't give a rats ass for anyone except themselves and yet they seem to have a subconcious will to do as old Megsy pleases.

Oh and before anyone comes along and tells me "Its just a cartoon. get over it", shut up.

Like was said earlier very interesting but i believe all the cassettes are individuals and have their own personalities and sparks. I believe though the original cassettes were originally a covert infiltration team. It could be though that the constant stream of information through the cassettes and soundwave could somehow meld them together making them seemingly one cohesive unit which in essence they are. Soundwave is definately one of Tfs mythologies finest creations. Not one but numerous components and sparks working and joining together to make one of the most deadly Tfs ever created. Information is power and soundwave has it all along with his mini warriors who wont hesitate to stomp a mudhole in yo ass! :D

Interesting theory, regarding G1 Soundwave, anyway.

Another thing has always nagged at me, Rumble. He seems to act with far more autonomy than any of the other cassettes. At the same time, he shows a great loyalty to Megatron. Considering the split personality theory, I'd say Rumble represents Soundwave's loyalty. Ironically, Rumble is the cassette who spends probably the least time in Soundwave.

Ratbat is definitely Soundwave's self serving side.

soundwave is not so loyal, he is very selfserving and follows megatron because it suits himself

lazerbeak however is loyal to megaron over soundwave
rumble & frenzy -not so sure about

That's why Soundwave's face is all covered up. His personality is a mystery.

something about em..was optimus' friend...by friends,storylines.
red,purple.

another thought on character. meg always had shock on cyber. twin
brother..full support.
sound...kinda like magnus..,in a lot of ways. takes charge but..
familiar.
cassettes are kinda indy. cause they don't act like children from
em. they respect and guard him though.

the only thing I don't get..,it's something left alone...
ravage..as his own robot mode.?

I've thought about this a lot, and though Ratbat sometimes has a different origin than Soundwave (ie comes to him later from somewhere else.) I could agree that the others season 1 and 2 wise could very well be parts of himself. His stoic demeanor leaves a lot to wonder while the Cassetticons are very emotional.

This conversation is realy interesting but I think it's meaningless to talk about Soundwave & cassetticons' sparks since the whole story about sparks started after G1(Beast era if my memory serves me right). We simply don't know if G1 TFs had spark, soul or whatever you call it.
As far as personalities are concerned,I had never seen it that way...
I always regarded Sounwave & cassetticons completely different TFs who just lived & "worked" together...You may be right...
Also, I think this theory works very well with combiners.Obviously, Devastator's personality must be a mix of Constructicons' individual personalities for example...
