Haha I do this too. I don't even have kids, but if they ask I usually say sure.

I'm 25 and I never really feel like a "creeper" when I'm looking in the toy aisle. Though that's not saying I haven't felt embarrassed before. I'm in the aisle to look at the transformers (and marvel universe) and then get out. If someone thinks otherwise then that really is their problem, now isn't it? But really if you can't tell that I'm a nerd by my t-shirt choice and my glasses then you are just not very perceptive. I suppose I've grown a bit more tough skinned over the years, as when I was 18 or so I would do silly things like purposely pay at a line that had a old woman or a guy as the cashier cause I didn't want to be embarrassed if a young girl was the cashier. There comes a point I guess when you have to realize that this is your hobby, its what you enjoy and if others don't like that then it sucks for them.

I've noticed a trend in the posters here. Seems to me that the ones who are most comfortable with all of this have girlfriends/wives. I'm single and I wonder if that has anything to do with how I feel about all of this. Bah well, learn to live with it I suppose.

Maybe I should over saturate myself with this, hit several stores in short order and look and/or buy something at each of them, the issue then becomes cash. Maybe I'll just convince my sister to go with me so I don't feel completely alone with this crap, not that you guys aren't helping, you are trust me. It's just that it still feels less awkward when there's some one there to share in my geekness.

I'm 23, and single, and if I were to be coupled, the girl would have to deal with my collecting hobbies :P . As for you guys who are in your teens, it would be even tougher to keep collecting since that age means your age group would probably think your immature, etc etc. But nuts to them, fellas. As you get older like the other posters here, and stop caring what others think, it'll probably get easier to ignore. But for now, good job sticking to what makes you happy. ;)^

To make it easier, let me tell you that I've met lots of people who collect TFs or marvel or somthing else nerdy, and are really awesome people, even a couple metalheads I know... You don't need to worry about falling into the "comic-book guy" stereotype, theres lots of people who are really unique and crazy who also collect.

Now if I can just meet that special girl who also loves TFs as much as I do

I'm a girl!! Lol. But no, I have an ex-boyfriend who is a geek also and we use to hit Toys R' Us and other stores together. Was fun until we found a fig that we both wanted but didn't have enough money to each get one. Needless to say, he usually let me have it 1st for my collection before his.

This thread seems to boil down to "are you afraid of people judging you for your hobby by thinking you are too old for this stuff?" It's a good question.

For me, nah. I'm 34 and married with a little one. I've loved TF since I 1984, went away from it a bit while growing up in HS and college, but have been back in since college, and don't think I'll ever *completely* stop. I love the stuff, love collecting, love posing the toys, love the fun of it.

My little one loves the stuff too, when I mention to my wife that it seems like he has too many toys, she just tells me that it is because he plays with all of my toys as well. That's probably true. And my wife knew I was into TF right away. She thought I was *dorky* right off, but told me that I have *dork charm*. I've never fully understood that, but she describes it as my "being cute" when I get really into something or when she sees how much I want to get something I like. Back when we were first getting to know each other, she bought me some TF toys for my bday. I was stunned, and impressed. Now, many years later, we're married with a little guy. These days she wears an "I love nerds" t-shirt around to show her support. She's pretty special.

And yeah, I roam the toy aisles at Target whenever we got here. I also stop by TRU when i have a chance, though there isn't a TRU that is conveniently close to us. I guess I got over the whole "people judging me for my love of toys" back in college. Since then I don't care, in fact I revel in it. I generally wear a TF/SW/GI Joe t-shirt when I'm out on the weekends shopping with my family or on my own. I find that I get more "That's awesome!" comments than the opposite.

I'm the same with the t-shirts. I'm actually amazed how many "That's awesome" comments I've gotten. I'm not sure if its just the shirt itself, or the fact that I'm 35 and wearing the shirt :).

I'm 15 and I started collecting about the time ROTF had been out for a month. Before that was 2007 Legends Barricade. I still kinda collect. If I find money and a figure to buy, I'll buy. Nowadays I have to see more difficulty and patience; I had to gather money for weeks to get enough for Screamer. Now got my sights on two more, but that's gonna take a LOOONG while. I have collected about a year or so and got about dozen of figures, but still no Leaders nor Scouts. My parents aren't against it, they don't actually even know; sometimes they do discover some newbies, but don't make a number of it. Just sometimes ask who it is and that's that.

They don't buy me; I buy myself and always alone. I've got a good shop where they usually sell 'em; most of my figures and YuGiOh cards originate from there. It's not too far from where I live, just waiting for the bus sometimes is killing. Only thing they don't have is Leader class.

But hey, does anyone know anything about these DOTM dog-tags?

I'm not concerned about what people think when I am shopping for TF's. I would think people assume I am shopping for my kid.
Check out my collection!
