Alternator question ... Subaru mold specific.

Postby AlienQuiksilver » Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:46 pm

Okay, I finally opened one of my Ricochets. I figured that he was going to be way too similar to the Jazz mold, so I never really planned on opening him.

Well, he's actually different I found out ... silly me. There are some similarities, but differences as well.

My question. Do I have to deal with his droopy/floppy shoulders? Is there some way to lock them in place?

Everytime I try to pose him, his elbows swing in and rest on his torso. Should I paint a rainbow on him and be done with it? I can't seem to pose this guy without him looking like a fem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Damn it, now I feel responsible for having you bring Ricochet out. I'll go hang my head in shame and reflect on what I did.

I fixed it. His door broke off and I had to fix the part his head comes through. Little guy took quite a fall! As for his arms...they are a bit goofy, aren't they? Other than that, he's a handsome bot.

He really is quite handsome, although i don't care for the flames too much. They aren't that bad, but they could look a little more fierce.

He feels very solid ... much more solid than my Alt. Jazz. Rigid joints (other than the shoulders of course) ... he's up there with Skids as far as feel goes.

Ricochet would not be a good bot to man a watchtower. Imagine a Seeker attack. He'd be like ... "Look, it's starscream ... LOOK!"

Prime responds ... "Dude, what are you pointing at? And why are your elbows touching your pelvis?"

LOL. I'd definitely enjoying Skids as well. They are the only two alts I've found since I started collecting. I like Skid's legs better, and definitely his arms! As far as these toys go, he's pretty good quality (and for $20, he should be. I'm cheap) I'll be getting any of these I can find!

Don't spend too much on Prime like I did. He's VERY available for a decent price online, but he really kinda sucks.

Check over at the Carbombya forum from time to time. There are many for sale/trade.

I actually have Ravage 2.0, Rumble, Binaltech Battle Ravage and Rollbar available. I erased them from my carbombya thread until I get back from vacation on the 18th.

Wait until you get a Mustang or Ford GT mold. Jiminy Cricket!!! The wrangler mold is quite awesome as well.

May not sound like a conventional fix from other members, but if the joint is what I think it is (with Meister right in front of me since my Smokescreen is at home), which is a hinge joint that don't have a screw to disassemble, try dental floss. Yup dental floss, preferably the non-flavor ones of course. Dental floss are very good going into tight gaps, while being very strong agains tear. Try loop a piece of dental floss a few times and see if its working. If you like how its working, then tie a knot or two and loop some more until the joint is tighter again. It basically just add friction to the joint with the floss build up inside the gap. Works very well on a number of figures I have with loose joints that I can't disassemble. You might want to give it a try.

I did figure out how to make him point up into the sky. He looks great, too.

I had to rotate his whole arm 180 degrees at the shoulder, and then rotate his hand around to match. I think I can live with it.

They are floppy, just the same as everyone elses ricochet i'm sure.

The dental floss idea would work wonders if I planned on leaving him in bot mode, but alt mode would suffer aesthetically IMHO. The swinging hinge he has makes it impossible to hide the floss.

Now, wrapping the floss around a peg joint would surely work. Maybe that's what you mean? There would be no way to see that. I'll have to keep the idea in mind for Meister actually. His right arm is always popping off and could use a bit more holding power on that peg. Although Ricochet and Meister are very similar, the way their arms swing out from under the car is completely different.

Thanks guys and gal(moonbase2) :)

Weapon: Air Rifle
I'm sad to hear the Richochet variant of the Subaru mould has weakened shoulder joints.

Probably because it's the 3rd time the mould has been used.

Could you post a pic of the shoulder joints, back and front?

I could suggest a fix then.

My Silverstreak has that problem. Though they don't go all the way down, it more of a slumped look. I just hinge the shoulder right up so they angle upwards slightly, then have the arms angled accordingly. Usually works.

It's a hit and miss problem throughout the Subura figures. I've got a Smokescreen that'll do it too. I honestly think Hasbro went back and reworked the mold before casting Ricochet anyway. You can tell because the torso flaps that fold in to become the front of his stomach secure differently to the fenders in alt mode. Nothing big, but they are different.

You can wedge something into the shoulder pivot, like paper or tape, and make do. Just remember its in there if your transform him often.

Yeah, my Ricochet's left shoulder slumps down, too. I just position the tire behind the shoulder a certain way and it keeps the arm from slumping down. I don't have this problem on any of my other Subarus.

I only have 1 Subaru, Smokescreen, but I don't have a problem with him or my two RX-8s.

For what it's worth, I'm planning on picking up Richochet and turning him into Divebomb.

Despite the two having similar transformation sequences, the Subaru and Mazda molds really don't have the same shoulder assembly, so comparing the two really doesn't make much sense in that aspect.
