Alternator Question

Postby FellintoOblivion » Tue Mar 20, 2007 6:22 pm

What is the difference between these two alternators? Well obviously the boxes but why are they different?

Looking for the Megatron gun (or just the stock) that came with 20th anniversary MP Optimus Prime.

they are the same in all ways the red one is the old packaging and the "bubble" one is the new packaging...... so he is just a repackage

The first image uses the Box style of the first waves, which was changed for the later waves. Some molds got releases in both types of boxing, but the figure itself should be identical.

Many people here dislike the newer bubble packaging, because it wont allow you to place your Alt back into its box, as the earlier boxier packaging did. Why because you basically have to destroy the bubble packaging to get to the figure. So there is basically no box left to put the figure back in. I prefer the boxier packaging, as i like to be able to store my figures back in their boxes if necessary. Reason why i hate the bubble packaging for the normal lines. And absolutely love the Old G1 and Commemorative Edition re-issue packaging.

Other than that they are the same figure.

I may be wrong, but I think that there is some difference between the two as well. I seem to remember that the "Red" box has some paint app. or sticker that the "bubble" doesn't :-? :???: .

But mostly the same thing.

What!? Every single one of these I've opened, I just cut the tape at the bottom, leaving them all still in tact.

They're the exact same. Just the boxes. I really don't mind the 'Cybertron' packaging. I haven't gotten any of the old type of packaging.

Can you describe a little more when you say that you cut the tape at the bottom and keep the box intact? This doesn't look possible with the Alternator boxes that I've seen.

My thoughts exactly, how do you do it?

I think he's talking about the inner bubble that's form fit to the car. Not the dome.

I thought the same thing too because I remember an old post about missing silver on the tail lights. But either I dreamed it up, or it was a one time thing cause all my Prowls seem to the same.

If that's the case, I think he would still need to either cut a whole in the bottom of the cardboard box, or detach the top plastic bubble.

Oh I see now. I missed that you were indicating, that perhaps he meant the red box not the bubble box.

It strikes me a bit odd that Hasbro switched to the bubble box style. I wonder if it was done for visibiltiy or because of cost? Or perhaps both.

Takara packaged BT-17 in a bubble box, which I thought was an odd move.

I would guess cost. Thin plastic like that can't cost 25 cents to produce in bulk. No folding, no taping, probably automated... so no labor in gluing.

That's what I meant, the Red Box is a good box to store the Alts back in if necessary, the bubble box (transparent), not so much.

Also stacking the bubble boxes is out of the question. I have a couple bubble style boxes and they are a pain to store.
