What sort of person would do this? Why open it at all and ruin the boost to value that MISB provides if one will not transform or display it.

Perhaps, like me, the person chose to open it, play around with it. transform it. And put it back in the box. Decided they needed money and has to sell it.

Thats called MIB.

When boxes allow you to do this. Like Takara's, and the Original G1 boxes with the plastic trays. Re-issues etc..., its a nice way of storing them. That's what I do with the ones that allow for it. Hasbro's weird shaped boxes and bubbles don't allow for this, and as such you'll probably see very few of these MIB.

If I ever decided to sell mine them they'd be pretty much MIB (Mint in Box).

But not MISB (Mint in Sealed Box)

Its pretty common AFAIK.

I do that too. For the reissues especially, because after a few weeks or months the allure of having a G1 Sideswipe on my desk wears off so I'll pack him back into the box and it's all good. But I apply the stickers and load up missiles and stuff, so it's MIB of a slightly lowered nature.

I do MIB, but very sparingly, I would say over 90% of my collection, if not more is MISB..I like the new Boxes packaged in Robot Mode hat Hasbro has been doing lately, there's no need to open them..

the smartest thing I have ever done was to by MISB, leave in the package and track down an Opened but complete version.. which is an opened toy in mint condition, with all accessories, no box... on eBay.. that way I spend a fraction of the cost to buy the mISB, and maintain that collector value, while satisfying the need to display in me..

I do the same. I opened all my commemorative Transformers, messed around with them, and put them away. Same with Pepsi Prime, except I didn't apply the stickers to him.

In many ways I think MIB is preferable to MISB. Especially if you pay a lot more money for a vintage MISB figure.

If you buy an MIB figure, you can play around with it and put it back without any worry of affecting it's value.

There's also the case of figures with battery operated functions where it may be necessary to break the seal to remove the batteries.

Weapon: Turret Gun
as i collect minicons that phrase is a godsend for blind packed figures

A micron booster unopened box or a WST unopened is generally worth less than when it is opened and its contents revealed
