No there haven't been any color sketches or prototypes shown of Soundwave AFAIK. but i guess he would look something like this:

I'd say a shade or 3 darker blue, but otherwise I think you are about smack bang on the money, why should Hasbro waste money on using more than 2 different colour paints on a figure? :?

I love this design, the robot mode, the alt-mode. the proportions and the guitar. I'm really excited about seeing it finished and seeing him in the show. I'm glad it doesn't look too much like a homage to G1 Soundwave, haven't we had enough of those in recent times? I see no reason why he should transform into a tape deck, talk in a monotone robotic voice, or still carry around cassettes in a day and age where they have been an obsolete format for over a decade.

I've been elaning towards the most appropriate modern transformation for Soundwave being into a Laptop. Would seem appropriate. However, I would not change his personality just for the sake of change.

I personally always found SS, SW, Megs to have the most engagin personalities.

That would be fine if this was a G1 reboot, but as far as I am aware its not. Prime is a young inexperienced leader, Ultra Maguns is he superior, Prowl is a ninja, etc...etc.. Just like RID, Armada, Energon, Cybertron and indeed the movie this has no direct connection with G1 other than the names and likenesses of the characters.

I woudlnt get too hopefull that you will be able to manipulate Soundwave to look more like a boom box. These figures look very basic in design, a basic unfolding to reveal the robot. I dont think that there will be many parts to reposition.

I'm really only interested in Arcee. She looks so much like the original G1 version. If the toy comes out I may get it. Especially that I don't have her. I skipped the movie side toy ,and other versions of her. Which didn't get my attention.

Laptop alt wouldn't be bad for Soundwave, and Movie Frenzy showed us what great weapons Cd's can be...

AS long as Soundwave plays other Transformers off to his own benefit I'll be happy, that's one fairly unique character trait that defines Soundwave .

The Guitar...why are so many people against it??

I think it's interesting, PLUS it makes me remember the "Silverhawks," (yeah, I know, telling my age). Transforming guitars were used to great affect in it :P

The other thing to remember is this...YES, we are all Transformer fans, BUT this new cartoon isn't just for us. This is being made for the under 12yr old crowd for godsake, so I think people need to be a little less critical.

Things change...things Transform, if you will  ... and Transformers will not always be JUST like G1. They are attempting to insure the Transformers are still alive and kicking in a new, fresh way for the next generation. I don't have kids yet, but I am hoping Transformers are still alive and kicking when they're around so I can buy them some...God knows I dont want them playing with mine :P

Guitar = cool to me. Traditional? Not at all, but it's not like we can still use a tape player and cassettes anymore.

Thwse where shown at Botcon and Comicon i believe. Hasbro showed some concept drawings of the Universe line. But the Animated line where prototypes and test shots. No drawings AFAIK.

Blitzwing had no prototype, but they used concept art.

my biggest worry with Animated soundwave will be his personality in the show. I'm hoping for either his old monotonous personality or a stereotypical British rocker.

I love the toy, although I should wait till I get the toy to make more judgment.

LOL. Soundwave voiced by Damon Albarn.
that would be cool but I like the cold dark Soundwave more.
though I think rock is more like Soundwave's music.
and Hip-Hop is Blasters.
Therefore Soundwave shouldnt talk like a poser.

Personally, I like Soundwave as a Scion. It keeps him nice and blocky, like his tapedeck counterpart. I don't see whats so bad about him using a guitar as a weapon, soundwaves (lol) are a very common weapon in movies and such where people are fighting robots, so it only makes sense to me that a sound-based robot would make use of it. More sense than a super-advanced race of machines using tape cassetes the size of a small house, anyway. I realize that tapes were still used widely at the time, but tapes aren't around anymore. Though, I would like to see at least Rumble make it in somehow. A transforming drumset, perhaps? A spare tire carried inside Soundwave?

Hey Hasbro, thanks for turning one of the coolest TF's (Soundwave) into a Lunchbox... That has to be one of the most butt ugly cars ever made.

I completely agree on all points. I love the new TF:Animated toys and this is icing on the cake for me since I have a 2008 Scion xB :) A sonic-based weapon makes perfect sense to me with the guitar/Lazerbeak. My xB has a pretty big subwoofer which would make a cool sound-based weapon. Rumble as a transforming subwoofer with the jackhammer arms! Here's pics of my "Soundwave".
