wasn't Animorphs release after Beast Wars? I thought they were out around the same time as Beast Machines?

They were around in the Transmetal II era, in the final year of Beast Wars.

yeah, I just checked the wiki, I think my confusion arises from the fact that these were still stinking up shelf space when the RID/Car Robots line got imported.

I think the BW mutants that changed from animal to animal were originally meant to be animorphs toys in order to expand the line. And before you judge the series you sould read the books so many hidden jokes that I just didn't get as a kid but the show sucked
