Beast Machines Ultra Jetstorm Question

Postby 0ctane » Sat Feb 17, 2007 2:40 pm

I noticed that the metallic paint has begun to flake and come off so i've decided to put it back in its box so it won't be exposed to anything.

The figure contains two 1.5 volt batteries (round watch style batteries) and my question is:

Do 1.5 volt batteries leak? I know that this is a problem with older transformers, the battery leaks and exposes the toy to acid and ruins the toy.

Should i take the batteries out before i put him away permenantly in his box or is it ok to leave them in there?

I don't know which batteries are more prone to leaking so any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

(also same question for my Armada Unicron) :)

Not to my knowledge. My Jetstorm was in my attic for about 2 years and when I got him out , he was just fine. Trust me, Tf's have come long way in 20 years, and so have batteries. So, it shouldn't be a problem. However, it's up to you. If you feel more comfortable with the batteries being removed, do it. I don't know about Unicron, but I would imagine it wouldn't be a problem with him either.

I would take them out. And mine has flaked even more since placing him back in his box anyway. I don't think there is a way to save the paint job.

Most batteries today are alkaline, incorporating manganese, zinc metal, ammonium chloride, and water into a viscous mix resembling wet sand.

The mixture should not damage the paint, but why not install fresh batteries and replace them once their expiration date is reached?

That was easily the most informative thing anyone has ever said on this website. Thank you so very very much.

Personally, I'd take them out. You don't have to remember which ones have batteries still in them, which ones don't. You have 100% worry free leakage problems, and you could just stick them in a plastic baggie to replace them if you want to. Also these batteries are pretty cheap and could be made of inferior materials/quality.

Another option is to keep them in and sell it on eBay once you buy a replacement figure without paint problems.

Although batteries have come along way, it's up to you to take the risk of corroding the terminals and renering the electronics useless. Wah.. my childhood Sky Linx.

Must have used bad paint. I don't have any problems with my Botcon Cyclonus though.

The batteries, take 'em out. I had the PR Command Center toy & the batteries got all yucky & gross. I had to clean the CC pretty good w/q tips. As for the paint, it happens w/some of my TM's & TM2's, like Jawbreaker & Megatron/Cryotek. Don't know why, I just put 'em back in storage............

Yeah the peeling paint is pretty weird. I also noticed on the Jetstorm gallery on the site, Seibertron (or Ryan) has also experienced this on his Ultra Jetstorm click here to check it out.

I would take the batteries out...

Two days ago I went through every Transformer with batteries and removed them all, I have a small cup full of those cell style batteries now. I figured I'd take them out just in case as the acid stuff from batteries is really cruddy even if it doesn't damage the toys. Also, is there ANY transformer who really has sound/light effects worthy of keeping their batteries in?

BTW, anyone know where the batteries are in Air Attack Optimus Primal? I couldn't find them on a quick inspection.

Instructions on equipment usually tell you not to store things with batteries in place, even with today's tech it just is not a good idea.

Also, for the time it takes to remove them and toss them in a baggy would be well worth perhaps saving the action feature on the toy.
