I wuv Beast Wars to death (in fact my 10th Rhinox just hit my doorstep today) as it is what got me into TFs and in large keeps me into TFs.
I enjoy the beasts a lot more then cars, tanks, etc. Maybe its because I'm not a car person but I just love how savage and fierce the beats look. I'll take BW Megatron over TF Megatron anyday. ANYDAY.
Not only that but the majority of the BW toys are show accurate down to the transformations. Its so awesome to actually imagine the transformation in your head as you transform Primal because its the exact same.
I only have 2 BW toys but the detail is out of this world. You can tell that a lot of detail and thought was put into each toy. The Takara BW toys are awesome and I do not mind at all paying the extra $$$ for them.
Let's not even cover how revolutionary the BW show was at the time and how it still is the best TF cartoon EVER.
So in conclusion, watch some epps on youtube and treat yourself to a toy. You won't ever collect TFs the same again.

I dont know why I loved Beast Wars so much, but I did. Mostly some epcs would feature a character ep where it shows the ep mostly following that character rather the new eps it's all about whiney kids with "magic powers" or whatnot. Just my opinion and stuffs. Long Live Beast Wars

Beast Wars was awesome because every episode was epic and filled with storylines and continuity. Every episode was just one piece of the bigger puzzle. Great, great stuff.

i can understand that you're new to the TF collecting hobby, but i definitely recommend watching at least a few episodes of the Beast Wars television series with an open mind. also, while you're at it, pick up a copy of Beast Wars: the Gathering by IDW.
when BW first started airing, i was against it too. i mean, Prime a gorilla? TRUKK NOT MUNKY!!! but 11 years later, when the toys were no longer produced, i started watching a few episodes of season 1, and man, was i HOOKED. great storyline, great characters, heck, even the animation was good by today's standards.
my greatest regret was that i became a late fan, now the toys can only be bought over the internet and at inflated prices. lesson? be open-minded, watch a few episodes, and then prepare your wallet for BW bidding frenzy.
I felt the same way. Horrified at first, then i gave it a shot. I actualy really enjoyed the show and collected all the show figures.

I'd been collecting transformers from the tail-end of G1(most of which I'd missed out on due to usually being given gobots by parents who either didn't know better, or thought I wouldn't know better), all through the crappiness of pretenders, powermasters, non transforming actionmasters, G2 reissues of G1 figures, the glory of an Overlord figure one christmas, the welcome introduction of ball & socket joints, and the various plasticky neon-coloured figures of the mid-nineties.
But as weak as much of transformers product was in that period, Beast Wars was the series that finally killed my interest in Transformers. The concept was just too 'out there' and the cg looked cheap and nasty to me(even though it was must've been expensive at the time). Maybe it's a lack of imagination on my part, but I've never liked the idea of animal transformers. That's just wrong, as far as I was concerned.
Anyway, I was a teenager, and it was probably time to move on. It's probably a good idea to take a break from Transformers sometimes, and for me Beast Wars was a good opportunity to do so. As far as I'm concerned, it never happened. But I bear it and it's fans no ill will. At the time I was probably would've said it was 'retarded', (I was quite disgusted with it), but these days I just accept it for what it is. It'll never be my cup of tea and I'm ok with that.

Yes and no, I'm increasingly tired of the negative bullshit and pages of useless multiple threads and topics I have to wade though to get to any good discussion. Sure I'm happy something I love has drawn in all these new people. Am I deluded enough to think that as soon as popularity dies off, these people will still be around? No, I'm not. I'd rather the fad were over and done already. As far as comments go, can you honestly say you haven't done the same? I'd have to start calling people liars.

If you do have something else other than the movie line, you have to realize that the movie line has the shittiest plastic you'll ever see. When it comes to other lines, like beast wars, the plastic was freaking great.
Beast Wars was the best toy line ever. They brought on a different style of transformers, with balljoints, etc. Season 1 of Beast Wars brought some of the most realistic toys out there. Ironhide looks like a real Elephant. Season 2 brought on Transmetals which were crazy back then. And Fuzors? They were great, combining two species of animals into a mutated one. Actually the one thing I enjoyed about Beast Wars throughout the whole entire series was that it brought so many toys... I swear there must be over 100+ different transformers toys from the Beast Wars era. There are so many great Beast Wars Transformers, and what I really enjoyed Beast Wars for is that it was aimed at the collector. They had the best techspecs ever, they still had beast-formers that could combine, and they're one of the most natural looking toys out there.
Plus, who cares if the figures are ugly-looking. Transformers isn't a beauty-contest, it's how aesthetically pleasing a figure can be.

I've always hated the Beast Wars toys myself, which is why I don't have a single figure in my collection. Beast Machines on the other hand-pretty frakin' cool. I like those. But 99% of Beast Wars figures have always looked like total bullocks to me and I've been into TFs since I984.
The jump in articulation was indeed massive and for that I'm grateful to the line, but the aesthetic design of the figures-no thanks. Everyone else can have them...but just let me have some of the Car Robots/ RID figures.

Well, i like the beast wars series, considering I grew up with it. I started collecting them when I was younger, sold some, and bought some back.. I really think the design is exceptional, and really is unique.
Once you become a fan of beast wars, it kinda takes you to a place that most other transformers fans can't or won't allow themselves to go.

The storyline of BW was better than the toyline. There were some noticeable exceptions including Red Dragon Megs or Cyrotek from the RID line (same mould) and Optimal Optimus.

In all fairness, I still hate most of the toys, and the first half of season one (ie most of the episodes I saw on tv) were pants.
But once you get past that, the end of S1 and pretty much all of S2, S3 and BM (apart from the very last episode, what an anticlimax!) are pretty good.
The simple fact is, G1 toys, for all their brickiness generally looked nicer than BWs toys, which were generally ugly, had bits sticking out everywhere, and suffered terrible 'look ma, no hands!' disease. And even those G1 toys that WERE ugly beyond reproach often had good comic or cartoon charecter models.

Come on - at one point Primal had 10+ for every single stat except rank, which was 10. If he wasn't (storyline wise) so tiny, I'd think he could beat up Prime!!!
This was actually the one thing that really irritated me about Beast Wars and a lot of lines that came after. I mean why do the leaders have to be the best at everything? If that's the case, why even bother having a team? Besides, it's just not realistic that a gorilla is going to be faster than, say, a cheetah, or out distance a wolf. Or, in the vehicular world, that a big rig can move faster than a race car.
I know I'm nitpicking, and that tech specs don't factor into the associated media, but it's something that has annoyed me for a while.

RID, well..........it wasnt really transformers. At least, In japan it didnt start out as such. And the designs.....well, i mean yuck. "megatron" looks hideous as does optimus. The only good thing I can think of was all the g1 and g2 rehashes.

And hey, dont forget that beast wars is canonical! Its the one and only true sequal to G1! And I would argue, with much better storyline/writing.

This is just my personal opinion, but this is one of my favorite Transformers I own (part of the Beast Wars line). He was the first transformer I bought 2 of: One to keep MISB, and one to play with. It's just beautiful:

@Mura: Hey, hey, nothing wrong with Depth Charge. His toy is wicked, but i'm still saddened at how he left the series. The one time he didn't want to fight Rampage.. he did.. and he died
The only thing I disliked about Beast Wars, is that all my favorite characters died. Then again, the same thing happened in G1. But it started to change.. RiD there were less deaths, same thing with Armada.. with only a few main character dying.

But dying adds to the seriousness of the cartoon. And at least they didnt die in stupid ways like the G1 movie characters. Dinobot, Depth Charge, and Tiger hawk all went out as heroes! And Scorponok and Terrorsaur went out as chumps!
And beast machines......man there is a whole lot of dying going on there!

i still have to watch "code of hero", i'm taking my sweet time with it, not hurrying up...but i tell ya, BW's got the best storylines ever - much better than G1. don't believe me? watch it.
i know, because i got the whole G1 episodes in DVD, as well as the complete BW. in terms of depth of characters and seriousness, as well as humor (trust me, there are lotts of it), G1 doesn't even come close.
edit: and oh yeah (i JUST have to put this in LOL), who could not love an anti-hero with a penchant for quoting shakespeare? DINOBOT FTW!!!!
