Best looking collection displays you've ever seen!
- Weapon: Null-Ray Rifle
I'm just wondering if we could share some of t he most epic collection displays we've ever seen. Why? Because the wife and I are looking to move into a 4 bedroom house soon, and I'll have complete control over 1 of the rooms (probably the only room I'll have control over, lol). I'm trying to get some ideas on how to furnish my future TF room. I personally like the modern look, and the more black furniture the better! Here's a look at my current setup which can only display a little over half of my collection.
So yea, I'd like to see some pictures or galleries of some kick ass collection showcases out there!
Oh, and I hope the mods don't take this as me looking for people to show off the figures in their individual collections. I'm just wanting to see how people take their collection, and show them off almost as an art. I'm aware that we have a collection showcase forum. However, that seems to be suited to the needs of people who want to show other people THEIR collections and individual figures that are prized possessions. Not quite what I'm asking for in this thread...

I have seen some of the collections on the collection forum, and only one or two have really stood out as anything "professionally" arranged. Most of the collections just seem kind of slapped together IMO (no offense, just saying most collections aren't really in my taste of modern/contemporary showcasing).
That's why I showed my setup. It's not professional in any way, shape, or form. However, it's mostly to my tastes and approaching what I personally consider a proper way to display a collection.
Now, before anyone flames me, I'm not trying to come off as a pompous ass (despite the fact that I am, in fact, coming off that way).

Your set up looks pretty good right now. Problem with "collections" is after so many it's hard to make it not look cluttered. With an entire room you could make it less cluttered looking I'm sure. I'd say start off with "what" your going to display them in or on. Sorry though, I don't have that answer as what works best.

It's not displayed that way, but I have always wanted to display my collection all around the room on many different small shelves, like the cube ones or like some people have CDs or DVDs displayed. I always picture a 3 level shelf with seekers (Screamer, TC and SW, coneheads and rainmakers. Then some single shelves of 'bots or Prime and Meg against each other.

Looked around the interweb for some examples of what I consider awesome displays.

im currently renovating my attic into my transformer room as the room downstairs has run out of room.should be done by the end of the week and ill update my collection thread but in the mean time. i use the ikea detolf cases for my masterpieces as i dont like clutter and brown black bookshelves for other stuff. some of the nicest collections werent necessarily the most well organized but displayed beautifully.
as far as any suggestions for your room i like shelving as opposed to wall shelves (fewer holes in the wall which the misses loves
and easier to customize as it grows/changes)

Re: Best looking collection displays you've ever seen!
i like this thread! kinda like a Cribs: Transformers Edition. i currently just have this teeny little shelf that i keep key items and 3rd party stuff on, but the bulk is kept in boxes.
the problem i have is i havent really seen any good setups that inspire me, as i have really picky tastes when it comes to furniture (i spent 3 months searching for a decent Eames chair and footstool for my man cave).
oh, i also really like youre taste WD! the zelda stuff is a bit much for me, but hey to each his own

I have to agree with you 100% right there. I'm not really worried about if the figures are organized by any particular era or line, but how beautifully the figures are displayed.
I definitely like your idea of displayed MP's separately, as well as Astro's idea of displaying 3rd party merchandise separately as well. My whole problem is that I've sorely run out of room and I have a lot of great TF's I'd love to display, but just can't (especially my G1 and Alternator figures). When I get more room, I'd definitely get an Ikea Detolf to display my Alts/Binaltechs, MP's, Alternity, and 3rd Party stuff.
Other than that, I don't mind my figures mingling (G2 figures perched alongside Classics and RID for example). What I really care about is, as alternator said, how beautifully they can be displayed.

My favorite has always been this dudes:

Crisp and clean, with grates in the ceiling for his boxes even! Great lighting and looks sharp.

Those pics you've posted are beautiful but the trouble with black is: it shows the dust. You really want to dust under all those figures every week?! If they were glass fronted that would help I suppose.

I really like this set up.

Everything is protected from dust and pets. Its light, uncluttered, and clean, with lots of room, and many separate spots for different lines, comics, and dvds. I've never been a fan of black furniture, too oppressive; or huge hoards of TF surrounding the room, its impressive but too overwhelming.

Are display lights bad for your figures? I think it looks nice, but I'd be afraid of fading/yellowing.

it looks nice but it kind of ruins the functionality of the room. thats fine if you have so much space to devote, but most of us certainly dont. the lighting is so dramatic, i could see this as an annex of the batcave or something lol.
thats a good point Mykletron, i barely dust the rest of my house as it is

ooh, now this i like, especially the barely visible clear cases on the left!

Blotbot do you know where those cabinets came from? They sure look nice but I would not be surprised to find out if they were custom built since it wraps around the corner.

Actually , I was curious about that, too. The caption on flickr said Ikea Billy bookcase. Which surprised me quite a bit. They look pretty nice http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S09885944
and not a bad price. Prolly $8-900 for the whole shabang.

Re: Best looking collection displays you've ever seen!
I have one big ass black bookcase backlite and one cream coloured bookcase. The too together cover an entire wall in my man room. It's about 10 feet long by 8 high.
I try to give each TF enough room so that you can see the figure in it's entirety. The cream bookcase works really well with my brightly coloured figures because it showcases their colours.
If you bunch em up they just get lost in the shuffle and can't really be appreciated properly.
Another thing i do is i leave all my combiner teams in their individual alt modes and display them in a team format and in a formation of some sort. They really look great that way.
But my best advice is large quality cases that give each figure it's own bit of realistate to be admired without having to navigate through the clutter of other figures in front of it.
No bunching!
lol.
I like to display my G1's with their Classic counterparts right beside them too.
