Black or White?

Postby MentalDragon » Tue Sep 04, 2007 6:29 pm

I'm in the process of setting up my display wall for my new TF collection.

I've decided to go the Track Mount Shelf route as that is the only one I see in Home Depot that will do what I want. I want to be able to adjust the height of each shelf depeding on what I am displaying.

Anyways... I have 3 choices when it comes to color... but I either want black or white.

For those display vetrans... what color works better for you when it comes to displaying your "LOOSE" figures? If you can add pictures, I'd appreciate it.

My collection will only consist of:

6" Titanium Series
Movie 07
Alternators
Optimus Prime Shrine :P (separate.. may go in the living room)

Thanks for your input!

I think Black goes pretty well. That is the current setup I have with my displays. I will take some pics later and post them for you to see.

My walls are white.... I was thinking the black would make a good contrast but I wasn't sure how the figures look on black.

Deceptiwho?... Those shelves are exactly the ones I'm getting. Except I planning on making the tracks go all the way from the bottom to the top. 2 sets... side by side meaning I'll have 4 tracks going the whole height of my wall. I see you are using the single brackets... do you think they provide enough support? I'm asking because they are pretty much 1/4th the cost of double brackets.

I also like how you hung the boxes... I might have to steal that idea :P

Black looks nicer but remember it shows dust much easier. You'll probably be cleaning black shelves twice as often.

Actually yes they can support plenty of weight... I got the sets of them for like ten bucks each at Wal-mart for three shelves and the mounting hardware.... also feel free to steal my ideas Ive been hanging boxes like that around my displays for years I love that style :)

Before you go with those shelves, I think you may be overlooking the dust factor. I recommend atleast looking into glass display cabinets instead. Dusting can become a dreaded nightmare sooner than one realizes. Dust just piles up everywhere in those loose figures and can be a pain to get the crevices fully dust free again.

Heed those words of wisdom. I have some espresso colored, a really dark stain almost like mahogany, book shelves that I've got some of my Alternators on and the shelf shows dust very easily.

QFT. If you're getting open shelving, might as well spring for some canned air or a soft-bristled dusting brush while you're at it. All my figures in my glass cases are nice and dust-free, but my outside ones on the top of the cases are a painful disgrace they're so dusty sometimes...

Hmmm... I think I'm going to go with the white...

I looked into the glass display cabinets... They are way too expensive for what you get.

The ones I actually care about are the ones I'm going to put in the living room... those will definitely be in glass. I saw a nice square glass multi-tiered display case at IKEA... I think that will be perfect!

I've found that those Swiffer frilly pads that you can use for cleaning blinds and ceiling fans work really well. A nice can of compressed air works well too.

Both choices, black and white, needs shiny smooth finish to bring out the beauty of the TF toys.
