Shia was on a local radio station here in San Francisco, and he stated that BB's alt mode was a Camero because a VW Beetle can't go 120 mph. Now we all know this isn't true, but why use that as an excuse? Can't a VW Beetle Turbo go 120 mph? Other tidbits are revealed as well. Look for the Shia link.

That's the reason there hasn't been an Alternator Bumblebee. Hasbro didn't go back and ask again to use a VW in the movie. The reason they didn't use a VW was because Bay didn't want any comparisons to Herbie. This has been said by members of the crew and is on Bumblebee's Wiki entry.

the newer ones can. the old bugs would need some mods on the engine and tranny. one things for sure the old bugs are fast off the line...

That and, at this point does it REALLY matter what BB's alt mode is? I love the old BB bug, but I like him as the camero too. The exact reason why he isn't a bug in the new movie doesn't really matter. It's over and done.

Besides, after the Michael Bay video where he explained primes flames as "because I liked them" there shouldn't be any big mysteries anymore as to why things are the way they are for this movie.

Seriously though, who would want Bumblebee to be a VW bug in a live action movie? It.....at this day and age, it would just look.....so odd In the 80's I didn't care because it was the 80's, but now....

BumbleBee is not a VW bug because of PRODUCT PLACEMENT. Chevy has the rights to the vehicals and VWOA (volkswagen of america) wont support anything! As a Transformers and VW fan, I and not happy with this deal but it's done. It's VWOAs fault!

Bumblebee hasnt been a bug for a long time, well before this movie came about. He wasnt even licensed by vw in the original show. Gm and bay have a good relationship, thats why they are primarily gm vehicles but not all of them are by gm. So they dont have the rights by any means, they are showcasing them.

The Camaro works brilliant, trust me, once you see the film you'll see.

What people seem to be missing is that bug Bumblebee is synonomous with a character that was "cute" and the "young kid of the group".

Camaro Bumblebee is anything but that. He's not cute, and he's certaintly not the kid of the group.

There's a list as long as Megatron's freaky flail arm as to why BB isn't a bug, including:

1. Free cars and support from GM means Bay could get more bang to the buck for the rest of the movie - when you're talking about 8 squillion dollars per second of robot action, you pinch your pennies where you can...

2. Bug = Herbie...

3. Vee Dub not wanting to licence the cute little car hitler made for war related toy lines/movies...

4. Size matters... A bug is kinda.. inadequate..

5. The Camaro looks like sex...


My guess is that Shia made an off the cuff statement and its being leapt on and flogged into non-existence. He's said some dumb things from time to time but who doesn't at his age...

That's the part that sucks about being a celebrity. Every comment you make is examined to try and determine any number of things about you. The only thing worse would be the guy who loses big on a quiz show for saying the Eiffel Tower is a famous landmark in New York.

Being a big fan of the 'Bee growing up, it would've been cool to see the VW Bug on the big screen. But, the movie character's quite a bit different, so I'm okay with the change.

They haven't allowed Hasbro to go anywhere near the Beetle because A) They never asked in the first place (All the original vehicles were unliscenced) and B) They didn't want to be associated with war, lest they remind people that they made engines for the Führer.

Also, the Beetle isn't a very masculine car.I wouldn't be caught dead buying one. Give me a Camaro any day.

1. We are not talking about this movie only when we say "vw doesnt want to be associated with a war" we are talking about transformers and hasbro in general. BB has never really been an official bug, it was unlicensed in the first cartoon and ever since then ha has been different.

OK Genious, the issue at hand is not whether vw was made by nazis or anything like that. What we are talking about is the reason bb is not a vw bug. Plain and simple Hitler had VW make cars, VW no longer wants to be associated with companies that have products that deal with "wars" So therefore the "never actually licensed as a vw beetle" Bumblebee will not be a beetle now or ever. Get off you damn high horse thinking you are the be all end all knowledge on vw and get a clue. Its not us being ignorant but you who is the ingorant one.
