I can confirm you're theory is incorrect. Mine came un-plugged sealed straight from Japan and has the 'rust' problem. However as with MP Skywarp 'fragility' this 'rust' is greatly exagerated, it's not rust it's a tarnish caused but the fact Takara used a cheaper brass bassed metal rather than diecast for this figure. Is easily removed with a little elbow grease, of you then then clear coat the offending areas you'll never have a problem again. Its not so much Takaras QC that's the problem just the fact they went cheap on the diecast.

I have to agree with AK on this one (sight unseen as I've yet to pick up MP Megs). Rust is the resultant chemical condition of oxidised iron, which is in no way what you're looking at with this toy. The problems that some people have encountered though are still a result of the same process, namely oxidisation. How to solve this problem? Simple: don't let any air get at the metal. Whip the feet off, spray them with clear coat, leave to dry and reattach. Or if you're feeling lazy but are prepared for more work in the long run then don't bother with that but apply regular coats of WD40. Once I do get my mitts on this really rather exceptional figure (stiff transformation, weak clips and supposed tarnishing problems aside) the first thing that I'll be doing is whipping out the screwdriver and sorting out the potential 'rust' issue. From the various reviews of this toy that I've read there seem to be bigger issues with the design, which I personally am prepared to ignor, but everyone seems to fixate on the 'rust' thing, the only easily fixable problem from the bunch. Hmm?
