Classic Kup-bash (New Pics, New Planet!)
I've been working this out for a while now, and it's still very much a work in progress. The bits on his hood and his back were a bastard to get right.
The preliminary paint job.
More to come.

Here are a few close-ups of the backpack. This little monster is the "flux capacitor" of the Kup project. It's the single piece that makes it work.
It's made from sheet styrene, square styrene rods, a small hinge. The inside of the pack is shored up with hot glue and the bits are held together with Krazy Glue. All the irregularities were evened out with epoxy putty.
I finally got the shape of the hood bit and the pack right by making a paper model first.
Hotrod has two holes in his back that the front two tabs slip right into. The "C" chape on the bottom of the flap lay across bits that stick out of Roddy's legs.

but very nice work man, i like it a lot
Brown and tan huh? Hmmm... Maybe not. He will have some battle damage before he'd done though.
On a side note: After reading SPOTLIGHT KUP I loved Nick Roch's redesign so much, I almost went right back to the drawing board!

Whered you get those kind of hinges from?! It would have saved me so much time and hassle with the doors for my bumblebee kibash if i didnt have to make my own hinges!
He does look really like kup in alt mode though which is great, but i cant say the same for the paint. You need to use some aerosol or an air brush because brushing it on by hand isnt doing you any favours.
Everything else is great though, and again i am jealous that you had access to that hinge!

Im just going by what i see thats all, and from quite a bit of experiance with body fabrication and modification on real cars, as well as my own experiance in kitbashing. The two are actually very similar youd be surprised.
Also one other thing you should use a less corse type of sandpaper as whatever you are using now is leaving huge scratches in your bodywork.
I recommend P400 or P360, they give a really nice and smooth finish and rub down filler really well and leave no scratches.

I guess it depends on the selling price and/or the quantity you sell.

And quality obviously. Have you ever seen any of this sorta stuff sell? And be honest, would you pay money for this kitbash if he was to sell it?
Im not saying it isnt worth money or anything as i think it is like any other piece of art.

well I've got 300 dollars going to a guy on TFW for a custom Lio Kaiser, and I've had a few offers for commisions on my custom Punch/Counterpuch, so yes some people are willing to spend money on customs if the quality is there and the price is right.
Personally I'd be willing to pay him for a copy of that backpack, I'm a kitbasher so I'd rather do the rest myself, but always nice when you can get a big piece like that out of the way quick and easy.

Yeah, if the right buyer finds the right custom, there can be some real moolah in it. Obviously if you're doing it through E-bay, there's a big chunk of luck involved, since you've only got a narrow window after posting an auction for the big-money bidders to come browsing. After all, a hefty proportion of people there "want to buy the moon on a stick, but only want to offer poop on a stick".
This is looking a little rough at the mo, but has definite potential to be a stonker of a 'bash - and it's certainly about as inventive as I've come to expect from Tom.

I admit it- painting is not where I shine. I know it. I've accepted it. I usually think about the paint as the chore at the end of the fun building project. On this project though, it has gone a bit lumpier than usual, but hey, it's Kup and I'm fully hiding behind the fact that his finish SHOULD look like hell.
Here're some updates- as you can see the joints are already chipped to hell. A little devil on my shoulder told me to just Photoshop them, but these aren't my finsished pics anyway.
Enjoy.
That gun is made from a Stormtrooper blaster by the way.
Tentagil- PM me.
