Classics Soundwave

Postby ptitvite » Sun Jun 24, 2007 1:14 pm

Here is my latest work.

Parts used for this:
Titanium Soundwave,
Classics Ramjet, Robot Heroes Soundwave for head.
Head is mounted on a balljoint found on legends Fireflight.
You may realize that the radio mode is'nt much but the robot mode kicks it!
Really, the titanium with diaper was a nightmare and I knew I could do something to improve it.

Enjoy!!!

I got some people asking me for details on "how to" so the best way is this I guess. Hope this helps.

nice. so exactly how much of ramjet is in there? Is it just thighs and crotch? I don't own Titanium Soundwave (couldn't bring myself to buy the diaper), but if this wasn't that hard, I may have to reconsider.

Is there anyway to make the waist slide up into the chest and the knees slide more into the legs? It might make it look better. If not maybe a flod down panel from somewhere could be added to bulk up the thighs in tapedeck mode.

Other then that this looks incredible.

Thank you for the nice comments!
I did'nt want to temper with torso because it is diecast and I can't afford failure. As for the knees inside the legs...well, below the knees it is also diecast so I was very limited with choices so I did the best I could with these limitations. Also, I had in mind to improve the robot mode, unlike other robots, his alt mode is useless in battle.
Nobody noticed the head from Robot Heroes Soudwave???

NICE, to improve the radio mode, why not just hinge some panels off his waist that cover the legs while transformed, and hinge back when in bot. Quick and simple..

Nice. But here's an idea to improve the deck mode. Try adding panels fixed to the outer lower leg, just at the sides and back. As is, when the lower legs pieces slide up, they stop at the knee. With the extra material stopping at the knee before they slide up, they'll go past it in deck mode, covering the lower legs. Maybe then, you'd be able to add the panels to the knees, that can fold out to cover the crotch in deck mode.

I'll try and sketch something out if you're interested, to show you what I mean.

I know what you mean but the darn thing is diecast and I can't afford failure as this Titanium was hard to find at a reasonable price.

'K. Before I do it, since I don't have T-Soundwave and can't quite make it out, which sides of the lower legs form the front of the deck mode? I'll be able to work out the rest from there.

The only difference in transformation is the rotation of the lower legs as the front becomes back to allow transformation.

if I'd not make this, the legs would'nd be able to fit properly. Or I would have to add longer legs thus making him out of proportion.
I also wanted to keep him in scale with the other classics (Deluxe size)

So the front of the deck is the back of the leg? Sorted, sketches coming up... 8)

[EDIT]

Right, these are a fair bit rougher than I intended, but they should serve their purpose...

Right, this how the leg currently stands, with the outer 'sleeve' stopping where the arrow's pointing...
Image

...and this here is how it translates in deck mode' leaving a whole chunk of thigh and crotch dangling out the bottom.
Image

If you extend the 'sleeve' up (it's currently where the dotted line is), roughly to the top of the lower leg, at the front, back and outside...
Image

... the outer case of the deck should come down a lot further, making it look more boxy. You could also then fit things like speaker details to the backs of the legs.
Image

You could also add a little flap to the back of each leg, near the top. In deck mode, these could flip out to completely cover the thighs.
Image

I can try and explain further if you're still not sure.

Your drawings are pretty clear and I get your point. I now have to plan and find the right parts for this. it's not much but still, I need a fliping panel and I think 'Ill use the ones on my legends fireflight...he does have wings that fold at the center so I should be able to use this.
Thanks!!!

just bought the parts to imitate this one. I was thinking of the same thing about extending the calf up. instead of a flap to cover the thigh and crotch up, what about putting an extra panel off the sides of the thighs that can rotate around to the correct position like on the far superior Japanese MP3 playing Soundwave?

The main reason I did'nt modify it more than this is because of the diecast torso. I also wanted to show people that with very limited effort, Titanium Soundwave can look so much better.

So I spent about 6 hours on mine today. He's coming along quite well. Minor difference so far, I decided to dismantle the lower legs. It was pretty easy really. Drilled out the inside head of the rivet, took out one screw, and it was all apart. After that I hollowed out the same spot you did, but didn't go the entire way through the inner calf wall. Then to make up the difference so he could still transform the same way you did, I carved away at the block under the seeker knee. This way you don't have to worry about matching paint on that little square on the inside below the knee, and I'll be able to dismantle, paint (silver), and put back together without glue.

On a side note, if anyone wanted telescoping legs for another project, just shortening the springs a little bit, and sliding out one tiny panel make the seeker thighs telescope inside the soundwave lower legs (complete with clicking/locking when extended).
till all are one.
