Isn't that Ironhide? I thought he was the one that landed in the pool. He scanned the big GMC truck sitting in front of the house.

Closer to Bionicles, with "click on" armour.
You get a protoform type body that you can attach panels to to make into robot or alt mode.

That's Optimus in the pool. You can tell because he's so huge.
It looks kind of like the armour can form the car when it's not on him. That would be nice, because then you could actually have him "scan" it, and sort of transform.

Hmm, I like the sound of this. It has potential.
Not sure if that's the potential to be good or ****. But it has potential.

Wow!!! Innovative!!!
Open the big Pic on Fan2Fan and really read what it says, in Red it says to date we have had playability on Transformers with just Vehicle to Robot, the Expanded takes it one more step further by giving us the Protofrom underneath and then Altmode and final Robot mode!!
That is freaking Awesome!!!!!
not only does it have a protoform Body, but it will have the car parts that snap on, and you can turn it into the car, and bot as well.. nice..
in the inital photos and announcments, i was mistakenly thinking the Protoform transformed into the comet, and then you just snap on the parts to make the bot, not so it seems!!! that just made my very short must have list big time!!

Watch the movie again, the bot that crashes into the pool, gets out, hides behind a large evergreen tree, then takes the form of a GMC Topkick - behold, Ironhide!
Prime is the one that landed in the field (close to Sam and Mikaela).
Ratchet crashed into the city, outside of the diner.
That leaves one bot left - so Jazz must be the one who crashed into the stadium.

1.) Optimus crashed in the field next to where Sam and Mikaela were running. He then stood up, and ran to the edge of the road where the semi passed by and he trans-scanned it.
2.) Ironhide crashed into the pool, the little girl asked him if he was the tooth fairy, he hid behind the trees on the side of the house, and then took the form of the Topkick before driving off.
3.) Ratchet crash landed near the diner where the kid's running with the camcorder, saying this is a 100 times better than Armageddon. Ratchet is also the one where the guy on TV says "That's my scooter under there, who's gonna pay for it?!" Ratchet then drives out of the garage for an EMS station, after trans-scanning an ambulance.
4.) Jazz crashes into the baseball field, the climbs down from the roof of the Cadillac dealership, just before trans-scanning the Pontiac Solstice hardtop.
Slo-mo the DVD people. It works.

No, Ironhide was in the pool, the mag just picked that picture to show that its a protoform to try to pass it off as Optimus.

These have some really great potential. Proto, Alt, and Bot form all in one figure. I would think that these have the potential to look the most like their movie counterparts. The snap on armor pieces might reduce the amount of bulk that a regular Transformer might have. I'd like to see more pics of these. If they look good, I hope to see different classes so that the scale of the bots stays consistant.

According to that website, if you want to pre-order the figures, you have to do it very soon (Nov. 7th). If you have never ordered from that website, you have to e-mail them with name, mailing address, and e-mail address. I am still debating if I want to pre-order the toy(s).

The one in the pool is optimus. ironhide isn't that big and do you actually think they would put that "moody" part of the theme song on ironhide? ...No

No, that's Ironhide in the pool. If they meant for it to be Prime, the editors did a confusing job at trying to convey that because they immediately show Ironhide taking the Topkick form.
Whenever the protoform comes out of the pool and hides behind the tall trees, notice the smaller trees to the right. They look very similar to the trees surrounding Ironhide as he is Transforming into the truck. It also doesn't make sense why Prime, if that were him in the pool, would run out to the middle of nowhere and then scan the Peterbilt up on the embankment. Also notice there is nothing behind Prime or the embankment; no residential area, no trees, and even if that house was isolated in that area with nothing else around it, you would think it would be visible. That must be one tall embankment.
I think the music changes to a more subdued and mellow tone because of the little girl, not because that was supposed to be Prime. It happened roughly around the time she was asking if he was the tooth fairy. It's actually more funny when you think about the rough and tough Ironhide is having a tender moment with being confused for the tooth fairy, then the laid back, more tender hearted Prime.
Based on everything I was able to find about Protoforms, they all look similar except for heighth. Even when I tried to watch the movie frame by frame when a proto was on screen, it was tough to really make out a difference in the way they look. It kind of leads me to believe that protoform is more like a skeleton. All skeletons basically look the same. You only start to get an idea of how they vary after they scan a disguise. It's really tough to say the proto by the pool was taller than the one in the field since the only thing to go by for scale are those trees by the pool. Had they known it was going to help prevent an argument, the movie producers should have freeze framed the screen when you see a proto with like a crazy font that said "Jazz" and "Ironhide" and "Optimus Prime".
Here's a clip of the arrival in case anyone wants to reference the scenes without looking it up on the DVD.

It has a lot of losable pieces, but I like it. It'll be even cooler if the protoform also transforms.
I'm really hoping this won't be Japan exclusive.

You had to go and remind me it has lots of losable pieces didn't you?

Seriously, I didn't even think about that until you said something.

Seems to be inherent in the design. It's just another one of those things to be careful about. I'm already slightly paranoid that my regular concept camaro Bumblebee will lose one of those plastic yellow pieces on his upper arm.
I'll be interested to see if it's possible to take a regular car model kit and customize the pieces to attach to the robot. If that's easily doable, it would open up a lot of exiting possibilities.

Have been thinking about gluing them in. afterall, they don't serve any real purpose being removable do they? It's frustrating after I get him back to alt mode, one piece falls off, and I have to undo part of what I've done already. Not exactly the easiest vehicle to align!
