Dual Model kits.... so umm, who here can read Japanese??

Postby Pontimax 01 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 5:25 pm

I got Prime kit today and he looks really great. Buuut, all the important parts of the instruction sheet are in Japanese. Like all the very important blocks of text outlined in red and blue borders. And all the text that is straight out red and looks to be warnings of some kind. A translation would be most welcome.

One would think they would have anticipated the export of this kit... :-(

Weapon: Null-Ray Rifle
It shouldn't be that much of a problem, IMO. The pictures in most instructions manuals for Japanese model kits are self-explanatory. I've successfully built a couple of MG Gundam and Armored Core kits relying just on the pictures, and I can say from personal experience that the warnings are basically to tell you to correctly insert certain parts, and the pictures usually do a good enough job to illustrating what the words mean.

In any case, building the DMK should be far easier than a Gundam kit, as the frame is already pre-built. Just add the armor and you're done.

One thing, though; the crest part on OP's head is wrongly referred to as "O 14" in the manual, when it should be "D 14."

I'm mainly worried about any warnings that say not to use or not to use certain types of glue. I was planning on using something like Testors to glue on a lot of the pieces so they didn't pop back off.

But now I have to wonder if that won't eat some of the plastic. Maybe I should use the Testors clear plastic cement because it's less solvent based.

Well if there anything like Gundam models it should be no problem. Been building them since 1993 and they didn't even have color instructions. Juts look at the diagram.

Just follow the diagram, especially follow the numbering.... Step by step u shd be fine.
I think DMK Prime is quite tough to assemble, esp the chest and stomach area... This is due to the stuff always pop off when u go to next....

Oh mine has been assembled for close to two weeks now. He only took about 10 hours, longer then average due to gluing him instead of just the snap together method. He's very sturdy being glued together and I won't have to worry about parts falling off.

The instructions were fine. I've built probably 200 Tamiya, Revell, Trumpeter, etc etc models in my time. The only thing that worried me with these Japanese instructions were some really big paragraphs on the first page that were written in bright red with red border. Usually on other model kits this is the area they tell you not to do certain things, like use a type of glue that isn't good for that application, or where they tell you other critical details that you may not gather from the step by step process. I was just worried that my Testors model glue might be harmful to him or something like that and that they may be warning you not to do this.

Great kit, awesome assembly. More fun then a ship or car if I had to say. I wish I could bring myself to buy Bumblebee just to have the fun of building, but I can't reason spending that much for him. Prime was totally worth it.
