Oooo, that SUCKS.
Is your shipping address with Paypal confirmed with them? If it is, I don't see why you would not get your full refund.

One question...how did you discover that it was shipped via parcel instead of Priority if there was no tracking info? Did the seller actually reveal that to you? If that's the case, stay FAR away from that seller from now on...that's just shady and deceptive and she's flat out lying in her auction listing.

Here's hoping Paypal rules in your favor! :D

Yes, actually, she did reveal to me via eBay correspondance that she did not ship via Priority and went with Parcel.

Looks like she has a few, but not many, issues with people saying she is slow to ship, as well as not honoring broken items (hence the 2 negatives in the past month...NOT good).

As a rule of thumb for me, if a seller has had strikes in the past month I look elsewhere for my goods.

I think Paypal will take care of it for you, they are pretty good about keeping their customers happy and out of fraudulent matters.

Good Luck!

Paypal takes its time with the investigation. May I ask, how much is in question? Hopefully, you will get the full amount back. The consumerist.com published most of the phone numbers at PayPal in case you are interested. Even with parcel post- she should have been smart enough to get delivery confirmation. By the way, DC does not mean delivery in PayPal's eyes. A seller will lose any dispute unless they have the buyer's signature. Sure a buyer could dispute every purchase, but PayPal goes by risk assessment....too many disputes and they suspend or cancel your account. Same thing goes for chargebacks and credit card companies. Good luck.

do you guys think that the negative feedback should be worked on more.... i mean, i was in a transaction with a really bad seller imo; not responding to emails, he also forgot to ship my item TWICE, and its been a month since i won the item, and now he finally refunds me.... so this was seriously a bad transaction due to his part. so after resolving everything, i give him a negative, because in fact it was a bad transaction due to his part. what does he do? he retaliates by giving me a negative and a rather rude email. i didnt do anything wrong.... all i did was won the item and paid for it, then waited, and then patiently tried to deal with this seller and all his shenanigans. has anyone else got negative in retaliation for leaving someone else negatives? i mean, the feedback system is used to rate other sellers and buyers. and this guy wasnt obviously a great seller in our transaction, so of course im gonna rate him bad, and give him a negative.

I, too, am having a wee bit of an issue...

I won an auction on the 14th for Armada Unicron. I messaged the seller immediately after paying for the figure, making sure that he knew it would be three days, the 17th, until payment cleared and he had the money. He was very prompt and messaged me back immediately. He was very polite, saying congrats and thank you, and then said he'll be happy to ship the day payment clears.

Payment cleared exactly one week ago today. We haven't had any contact since then. At the time I won the auction, this guy only had 6 feedback. All positive. Since the day payment cleared, his feedback has climbed to 29, with 24 of them as buyers, like me. Still all positive. Just recently, he left me positive feedback saying how prompt I was in payment and had great communication, was very polite, etc.

Anyways, my point is the item was shipped via priority mail. How much longer should I wait for this thing to show up before I begin to get antsy?

This is really my main problem with eBay; the feedback system is just too easy to abuse.

I'm just starting out on eBay, and so far only one seller has given me feedback, and he gave it to me before he even shipped the item. Everyone else, including the guy I've been having problems with, seems to be waiting for the shipment to arrived and for me to rate them first. And I just know that if I give them anything less than a positive, there will be retaliation.

I understand that some buyers are jerks, and get pissy over the smallest thing, so some buyers don't want to rate them until the transaction is complete. But its in bad taste to rate a person poorly just because they did the same to you, especially when there is a legitimate problem.

Though I haven't had to use it yet, eBay does allow you to respond to negative comments, so you can justify yourself a little there. And honestly I've can't think of any alternative that wouldn't be subjected to similar abuses.

What WOULD help and IS doable, is to create more categorizing options in the feedback section so users can choose to look at only negative feedback, or only transactions for items similar to the one they want to buy. At least then people wouldn't have to slog through thousands of pages of ratings to find and read the few negative comments. Just a thought.

And I still nominate this thread for a sticky. It's sure been helpful to me. :D

Agreed...as good as an idea as feedback is, it is unfortunate that it can be used simply as a retaliation tool.

There needs to be some kind of Ebay moderator to address situations where a retaliatory feedback is in question.

It's a billion+ dollar company, they should be able to afford some kind of fix for the problem you would think :P

As a rule of thumb though, these are some rules to live by if you want to have a good and positive Ebay experience:

1) Be patient as a buyer AND seller. Some transactions inevitably are going to take over a week to complete; if it gets to be 2-3 weeks THEN start POLITELY inquiring about what is going on. One thing that people need to realize is Ebay is not like going into a store and buying something. The instant gratification factor is gone since you need to wait on shipping times. This usually is what ticks people off 9 times out of 10.

2) When it comes to leaving feedback, I usually leave it first when I am the BUYER and after my items have arrived in good order. There are those sellers that jump the gun and leave +feedback due to quick payment before the buyer does. While that is nice and good, I don't see that as a good reason to leave feedback first. You leave yourself as a seller wide open to retaliatory feedback if something goes wrong (ie Post office delivers late and you're blamed).
As a seller, I NEVER leave feedback first. I just don't see a reason for it.

3) Be wary of sellers that have under 100 rating. Even though 100 is a somewhat respectable rating, you still want to be sure that their record is SPOTLESS. Nowadays even sellers with over a thousand rating can be shady, but under 100 is considered a relative new user to the Ebay community and thus should be looked at with scrutiny. If a seller has even ONE negative in the past month I would look elsewhere unless there was a GOOD reason for that negative being there (which the seller usually explains as a note under the feedback...if there is no explanation that tells me the seller doesn't care what is said about him and hence not worth giving my business to).

So those are just 3 bullets off the top of my head. I have a 400+ rating as a buyer and seller and to date have had only ONE problem. A dumbass that gave me negative feedback 2 weeks after we completed our transaction where I had already given him positive feedback; his excuse.."oh sorry, I got you confused with another user." I was a noob myself at the time so I didn't know about the mutual withdrawl of feedback option so I was stuck with that one mark on my record...hence my 99.4% rating now :-x

...I did rip him a new one though in my feedback explanation for everyone to see

Sorry for the novel, but hopefully it's of a little help to some.

^ Free advice is worth every penny. :P

One thing I would like to add, though, is that eBay lumps ALL ratings together for buying and selling. Thus if a user has 1000 ratings at 100% positive only a few of those ratings may be from sales. And when you click on the view feedback option you are (conveniently :-x ) brought to the All Feedback screen.

Just something I learned to watch out for in my first few hours of eBay(ing).

The reason Feedback will never have the option of just viewing the negative or the positive is because it would be bias.

Having all the feedback appear will let people know just how long ago it happened and if the person messed up ever since or learned his/her lesson.

As a seller I leave feedback as soon as I shipp the item, because the buyer has already done his part and I already did mine.

I'm not advocating removing positive feedback; it is important. But if a person with high positive feedback or a lot of transactions has several negatives or neutrals, I would like to see why, and what the justification was. And if they did allow you to filter feedback, it should have a date on it for just the reason you mention.

That brings up another good point. It would be nice if you could view transaction information for transactions that happened over 90(I think it is) days. A really good or really bad transaction is just as important now as it was two months ago.

Not sure if this site is mentioned somewhere in the 8 pages of this thread, but http://www.toolhaus.org/ is a useful tool when researching ebay sellers. It lets you filter down to just negs and neutrals.

I never buy on ebay without using it.

Don't forget to get the Firefox plug-in if you use Firefox! Just right click on the user name on Ebay, and select 'Open Ebay Negs'. It's awesome.

So Wednesday will be two weeks since my payment cleared for the MIB Unicron I won on Ebay. I sent a message as soon as I won it (along with payment) and the guy responded in less than a day's time. He was very polite and let me know that he'd ship as soon as my payment cleared in three days. So my payment clears and a week goes by. Nothing.

The guy had 6 positive feedback (No negative) feedback when I won it. I know, taking a real gamble there... But since the day my payment cleared to today, his feedback has grown from 6 to 30. So I figure everyone else is doing alright with this guy. This past Tuesday, the guy leaves me positive feedback for being a fast payer and being a great communicator.

Yesterday, getting a little impatiently antsy, I sent him a message asking for a tracking number. He advertised in the auction for the Unicron he could provide a tracking number... A day later, and I haven't heard from him yet.

Am I a nervous Ebay-er or are my worries beginning to take a turn for justified here? And he already left his feedback to me so I'm protected from him leaving me negative feedback if I decide to do so to him, right?

Just... Looking for some guidance here.

ive been using ebay off and on for a few years now, but i do have a question about international deliveries:

What is the deal with marking items as gifts as opposed to something else?

Ive ordered a lot of international stuff from USA and China and all but one item came through without a problem (all listed as gifts), the one item had £13 customs charges attached and was not listed as a gift

Is it this description or the fact that the item was more expensive than the other things ive bought?

I believe that items that aren't marked as a gift are subject to extra taxing by customs. Gifts come through without a hitch, and don't incur extra charges.
