G.I. Joe vs. Transformers Omnibus

Postby darkqueen01 » Mon Nov 12, 2007 3:59 am

I've been forever neglecting my inner comic geek. Since I am such a sucker for crossovers I've decided to look into finding graphic novels of the G.I. Joe vs. Transformers series. As I searched through Amazon.com I saw a listing for G.I. Joe vs. Transformers Omnibus: Vols 1-4 (Hardcover) to be released on December 25th, of all days. Currently it is $32.99 on Amazon and I figured that for a hardcover price, that isn't too shabby.

I wanted to share, tho I am sure this is old news by now, but I was just wanted to get people's opinions concerning this series. Good/Bad? Love It/Hate It? Obsessed/Could Care less? Thanks for your time!

Sorry if this has been posted already. I tried using the search tool and I can never get that to work. :?

Well here is the problem.

I love G.I.Joe and I love Transformers. I have all of those collections, and you know what? They mostly all stink.

I am being very harsh, but you DDP had the two biggest franchises and they flubbed it big time.

The first arc was great fun, if only seeing the Transformers as Cobra Vehicles. The second one was fun until number 3, and it seemed as if their 6 story arc had to be cut short and had to be cramed in the fourth ish.

The 3rd arc was fun, but again it was rushed. So while i did enjoy them, I will not be picking this up. How ever I still reckon there are still great stories to be had with both universes.

That always seems to be the deal with things like this: cool ideas getting rushed. Why people can't take there time on it is beyond me.

I guess I can't really judge it until I read it. Hell, it's around Christmas time. Maybe I can suggest it for a present...

Honestly, I'd get it. If you are a fan of them both then I'd get it. There are som really great and bold ideas, and it is interesting their directions. Just don't go into it expecting 5 star classics. PM when you get it and we can discuss it further.

Yeah right, like I would expect anyone to come up with an awesome crossover idea of two beloved childhood franchises. One can always hope, though. I'll be sure to PM you when I do finally get my hands on a copy.

I hate those storys, I hate them, I think they just stink, but I engoyed the DW version a lot and will try to get the story arc as a whole.

Good idea poor execution

Postby Sculpetor » Sat Nov 17, 2007 1:55 pm

Serpentor's introduction in the art of war was great and it had a six issue story. Then in Dark Horizon they combined Unicron with Cobra-La. So why does it take only 2 issues to defeat Unicron and Cobra-La? You have the biggest bad in the universe show up and he's a total pushover?

Also, would someone please tell me why they thought it was necessary to have BattleBeasts living inside of Unicron?

I recognized what they were Devils Due!! Battlebeasts don't live in Unicron!!

Anyway, It's still fun to read. I'll pick up the next one too. I'm sure it will be G.I.Joe/Transformers/Battlebeasts.

Like the previous poster mentioned (or spoiled), there are a lot of plot twists, cameos, & character selection that you probably wouldn't expect, so that part is cool, expecially if you're a fan of both franchises. But the overall story & art for the most part are a let down.

The Art of War was only a 5 ish arc, and Black horizon was 2 double sized issues. Basically four comics in two.

I'm psyched that there are surprising cameos and plot twists b/c, quite frankly, I honestly don't expect much of a story line at all. It's one of the reasons that I haven't bothered looking at the TPB's until recently. Sad that the art is a let down. That is always so depressing.

Sculpetor (or anyone): Any ideas on if they are doing a fifth series?
