And I said abstinence is a valid method of birth control. And one of the reasons people practice abstinence is religion. That's as far as I brought it in. I never said it should be pushed on anyone. If there is a flaw in my reasoning, please point it out to me. Other than 'abstinence won't work, kids are gonna have sex.' I never stated only teach abstinence, I specifically said I have no trouble with birth control. But there is no harm in mentioning abstinence as well. Personally, I think people should only have sex with someone they love, and that it should not just be used for 'fun' or 'recreation.' And that's how I plan to raise my kids.

Grim, I'm not trying to insult you in any way or anyone else that has had a child outside of marriage. I should've said that it is the best choice to make, if you are with the other parent and your relationship is sound. You had a child at a young age, and marriage obviously wasn't the answer in your case.

Back to the issue of bad/neglectful parenting...I saw an insane lady yesterday in the parking lot at Walmart. She had a broken leg and confronted a woman in a van because she was pulling out of her parking spot and nearly hit her. She went batsh*t crazy. She had kids in her car! What would you do if someone went insane on you like that, if you had kids in the car? She was blocking the woman's way out, so you can't leave. Or imagine if it were a man.

Make the joke, I'll survive. Honestly, I don't see the joke, unless you selectively edit my post. I was married 8 years before I had kids. I wasn't abstinent before marriage, but I wish I had been. I don't see why some people have so much trouble with this. I have more than one set of friends who abstained from sex until they were married, and one set who are currently doing so. So it is possible. I'm not foolish enough to believe that everyone will do so however, so teaching kids about birth control is a good idea. Why are people having so much trouble with this?

To add to the discussion with regards to Abstinence in relation to Marriage.


I gotta say I dont believe marriage is as important a term as it perhaps once was, if u consider that the divorce rate in most of the western world is in some places as high as 40-50% of all couples seperating , that many committed same sex couples are denied the right to marry-besides those other couples who simply choose not to wed. Eventually marriage breaks down and begins to make less sense.

Then of course one might wonder whether or not u are referring to the legal contract of a marriage, or the spiritual ceremony. Both of which hold similar, but also very different significances.

Ultimatly whether or not u choose to absitance is irrelevant to with regards to any legal standing, it is between u and the people u choose to share urself with. Be that one person or many, when u feel that it is right, and so do they-then it is, and no power on heaven or earth should sway u other wise.

Personnally my rule is never sleep with someone whom i havent mess around with on a previous occassion, i find that this halps me stay away from awkward mornings after, and regrets-as i am already familiar with the individual-although ill admitt it has confused the hell outta a couple of girls.

Have sex or don't. Wait for marriage or don't. Abstain or don't.

Maybe to some people, having sex is not exactly about expressing love.

Maybe to some people, having sex is not exactly about expressing love.

Depends on ur definition of love-it is perhaps not always an expression of lasting romantic love (although it can be) but it certainly shares alot of symptoms with the euphoric feeling of love-well at least if u do it right
