Henkei Ironhide: Should I?

Postby Autobotic9 » Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:24 am

I passed on the hasbro hide because of the awful orange and the face paint. I want henkei hide and ratch. Hoe durable is the figure, are any parts prone to warping, because i will only get henkei if i won't have a problem. Thanks.

Henkei really suffers from no extra issues that the HASBRO does not have. It does have some chrome pieces which may flake/chip with over use.

Henkei does not have the blue face, but does still have the stuck with head down transformation. Henkei also does not have the 'Oregon' license plate, and has yellow stripes on the side.

no matter how this topic gets sliced, Ironhide could have been so much better.

Agreed, Ironhide could have been better, but this mold isn't that bad. I would just pick up a Hasbro IH from WM for eight bucks, paint the face silver, modify him so the head comes all the way up, and call it good. That's what I did.

i did the same thing. i think the biggest reason IH is a disappointment for me is because his bot mode is really pretty cool, but his alt mode is a POS. from the pics i've seen, Ratchet and his color scheme might work a little better with this mold. Ironhide's color scheme looks like crap on it.

Yep, the alt mode is his downfall. That's way mine will stay in bot mode from now on. As for Rachet, I hope your right.

The way I see it, is that either version has the head problem. Ironhide? More like Ironheadache. Still, I like the paint job on the Henkei version better. I couldn't care less about an license plate that reads 'Oregon'. Get the Henkei version & mod the head.

One advantage with the Henkei is the window paint colour is much better chosen. The allspark-blue looking colour on the Hasbro is a bit goofy.

I also think the weapon looks better chromed.

Universe Ironhide is pretty darn good to be honest with you, there aint any problems with him that wont be the same on henkei. See him in the flesh outside of the box and you'll see that

Ugh...Ironhide is a piece of ****...

In robot mode he looks OKAY...But the stupid blue face and the fact that his head won't come up all the way really bring him down...The only way to get him looking eve halfway decent is to not flip the wheels up into his backpack...And he still doesn't look that great...

Altmode is just wretched...The colours are awful (especially the blue side windows), he looks rediculous and is near impossible to get transformed correctly...Half the ones you see in SEALED packages aren't even transformed well...If the folks at Hasbro's factories can't even get him transformed, there's a serious problem...

I bought him ONLY because it's ironhide...Just like I'll probably buy Ratchet...Like the sucker that I am...

I have the Henkei and I'd really recommend him. The red makes him look so much better than the Hasbro orange, and the dark gray shoulders, yellow stripe and the windows are nicer too. Oh, and the light gray face (I think I'd prefer silver but it is still good, and much better than Smurfhide :P).

I'm not a "Takara is always better than Hasbro" kinda guy, I only get Henkei when I think it is a real improvement (I only have Megatron, Astrotrain and Ironhide).

I am a big Ironhide fan though, and despite the issues with this mold, I think it is the best Ironhide toy that has been made. His bot mode does look really good (and I rarely have figures in alt mode).

That's my two cents! Hope it helps.

Ironhide is a really involved piece of work. The transformation is very unique.

I was impressed.

It's true that the alt mode has problems, but it's bearable if you take a little extra time to get things better aligned.

Sadly you are completely right about that...

And I will admit that the transformation is very unique...But unique clearly doesn't make it better since it doesn't work right and far simpler transformations have resulted in way better figures...

The plate that his head is on doesn't rotate all the way up and sit flush with the top of his chest, so he is always looking a little downwards.

Mine is currently on display above my eye level, so it isn't a big issue for me, but I'll make the modification so he can look straight ahead sometime soon.

I'd say congratulations then :)

Most of them, if you transform him all the way correctly, his head is half-buried in his chest...On mine, I just don't rotate his wheels into his "backpack" and that allows his head to look up a little bit more...But it still isn't flush and doesn't look that great...

Only problem with the henkei version is that he ain't got no chrome on his roll bar like X brawn had.As for the alternate mold, well it depends on the viewer, got no problem with the SUV type...........though the way his he his positioned kinda sucks.
