how many of you repurchase your TF toys by mistakes?
i guess most people here have an impressive collection, probably over thousands. some are hidden away, and some are display on shelves. it's safe to say that there's a certain possibility that people will be likely to rebuy the same figure twice or more by mistake. so how do you guys keep track on the figures you already possess and try to avoid repeating the same mistake ever again. ex, do you guys keep track of your existing collection in a computerized database or in some other interesting way? let's say if you want to find a toy in your thousands of collection, how do you search for it?

I use an abacus.
I know every TF I have bought and use a spreadsheet to keep count, never bought one I already had unless I wanted a double and I'm almost at 1600.

It's a Chinese knock-off of Microsoft Excel.

Nope. I probably have over 600 now, and now accidental repeats. I just remember which ones I have.

I dont keep a list.. just go to the basement to see what I have and go from there. I know I dont have 08 BB so I know that one is next(but will get 2 of them!) and will get another Arcee to take out of package.

Yea I have 500+ maybe in the 600 region now (I have never done a actual count) but I have never had this problem before. I don't really have a photographic memory at all, and I most certainly can not remeber all of their names. But I can remember what they all look like (for the most part).

I keep a database in my brain. It's pretty easy to remember everything, and I have a large collection. I won't list them all, but here is a broad count:
Alternators: All of them
Armada: All
Energon: All
Cybertron: All
RID: All of the Autobots
Universe: About half, mostly vehicle repaints.
Beast Wars 10th (American): All BW re-issues and Botcon '06 stuff, except 10th ann. deluxe Megatron
Classics: All, including Botcon '07 stuff
Movie: All first wave Bots and Cons, waiting on '08 Bumblebee and beyond.
TRU G1 Reissue line: 4 (missed this when it was out)
G2: About 20
Titanium 6": All, except G1 Magnus
LOC: All American releases
HOC: All American releases
Random other bits from other misc. lines: About 30
And I did this without even going into my room to take a look.
Makes me wonder if some of you other guys are losing your memory in your old age.

LOL! That was classic. More like it was MS Excel Version 1!

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

I have to agree with you...
want to do a computerized database with pictures and everything, but it takes so much time! So I use my massively larger brain database. When you look at enough pictures, you pine for certain ones enough, you remember if you have them or not.

With fiddling, yes, most are pretty intuitional, but Alternators, or BT are a trick!

I always know if I have something when I'm at the store. Keep in mind the older figures won't be showing up at the store anyway, so you really only have to watch the newer ones. Even, then, my collection is about 600+ and if I had to, I could probably list them all out manually.
I do keep everything on a spreadsheet, but it's more about keeping count than actually worrying about buying a double. I have a few doubles, but there's a reason for it: either getting the figure in better condition or it was in a 2 for 1 sale and everything I wanted was packed with something I had, etc.
I frequently forget how to transform stuff other than G1 or simple transformers, but I usually can figure it out with some gently pulling. There's been one or two bad cases where I needed to see the picture on the internet to do it, but that's not too common.

I enjoy playing with mine at least once a week. So I've ended up memorizing them all.
