Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help by telling me who, if any, this diaclone rider would originally come with. My mate accidentally bought one at a comic con and I am going to try to buy it off him.
Much thanks, John.

Are you sure that it's even a Diaclone figure? The shape, size, and lack of articulation remind me of Robo Strux pilots.

Looks to me like it could be from a Starriors figure, another 80's toy (and Marvel comic) line. They (at least in the comic) weren't actual pilots, but some sort of important component (like a brain) put in them in their creators image.
They're absolutely not Diaclone/kron pilots, those have articulated shoulder and hip joints plus magnetic feet, and these are permanently seated, as were Starrior "pilots".
Doing a little google, the toys were a Zoids branch off and made by Tomy (in their pre-Takara days).
Image Googling "zoid pilot" brings up many images, including some that look much like these.

Of course there's nothing to say you can't repurpose one for use with a TF/DK figure.
