This reminds me of a few months back, a friend and I were in a Walmart and the security guards had a guy buy his arms and were dragging him to I guess the loss prevention office or something. He of course was screaming, "Let me go, I didn't do anything!"

The humorous part was the elderly lady semi trotting behind them with a couple of empty GI Joe 25th Anniversary carboard backs, the plastic bubble clearly empty and hanging partially off the card. She was repeating over and over again, "He hid them in his hiney. I saw him. He hid them toys in his hiney."

My friend and I died laughing. I can only hope she meant he put them in his back pocket or maybe shoved them in his pants. I don't know what conjures up a more hilarious image, the thought of the security guards arguing over which one has to be the one to try to dig out the evidence, or Granny Walmart lurking in the shadows watching someone hide GI Joes in their "hiney" until the moment was right to spring upon him and serve justice, Walmart style.

I don't know why mostly everyone is encouraging to him to stand up to his dad. You guys make sound like it would be a end to his problem with his dad. Seriously, we don't know how his family works. Unfortunately, confronting might bring up other issues and make a bigger mess. Sometimes it's best to leave things be. Everyday is an everyday battle with my parents...and it always revolves around me and my hobbies. Can't blame the dad though; he just checking up him. Some people just develop an unhealthy obsession with whatever nowadays *coughdrugscough*. The whole point of the thread was to tell an interesting story in the first place.

Anyways, enough ramble/lecture/semi-rant. I like the story. Although, I would just...waited until I got home, THEN take in the the room open them and ditch the boxes. If you're room is messy, then he won't know what's up. If not, build a mini-shirne in a shoebox :P

Great story CleverUsername, too funny.

My Dad used to give me a hard time too back when I started collecting G1s 20yrs ago. But I had some leverage on him. He collects vintage toy tractors, so I just threw that in his face and he shut up for the most part.

Again, great story, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, sue them. That's the ticket. Because when you know coffee is hot and you spill it on yourself, it's clearly someone else's fault. What is wrong with my country?

I think you should make an official complaint. Not sue or anything but get the security idiot warned.

Not sure about the USA, but over here you cannot be charged or even made to show your bags, pockets etc to security unless they actually saw you steal the items and not pay for them. (even though they say that getting bags checked is a condition of entry, you do not have to comply)

Even then they have to wait until you leave the premises (as in the store, not the centre/mall) and then they may only ask you to return to the store if you do not comply they cannot forcibly make you return.

That guard handled the situation wrong, thus not doing his job correctly and thus needs a warning. If no apology was issued to you from the security staff then I would certainly follow the matter up.

Bet he is one of those morons who went into Security for the "power".
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Agreed. My cousin used to have to buy Transformers that way up into her 20's... because her mom was a dick.

1. Your dad's a dick. Sorry. Parents are supposed to teach you right from wrong and defend you. He's as wrong as the security guys were. Do NOT put up with such treatment. Your "parent" is in fact just a "man". Don't allow this man to act this way or you'll be letting people do it to you your whole life.

2. GET those jerkwads in trouble. Call a nearby lawyer all by yourself, as DAD won't help. You got manhandled while doing NOTHING wrong.

However, on that last point, DO make sure there's no signs anywhere saying "do not take merchandise into restrooms".

But again, whether PURCHASED goods are still considered "merchandise" remains to be seen.

Also, if you do get a lawyer, you might think of attacking from the point that the restrooms are placed AFTER the checkout area... as in, aside from convenience, the restrooms might be there so that customers can instantly utilize products just bought there, be it makeup, the garbage bins for packaging or whatnot. A stretch, I know, but so is poopy, strong-armed thug security ruining your day.
(Disregard if the bathrooms are more in-store)

One more thing... I hope you still have the receipt (though I'm guessing the incident has been properly recorded by the store anyway).

And even though the media didn't widely publicize it, she only got $480,000 to pay for a few skin graft operations along with her third-degree burns. I'd say she was right. Those lids are often put on quite half-assedly... McDonalds had 700 coffee scalding incidents before this lady's crotch got turned to liquid flesh.

And sometimes it's the worst thing in the world.
Not speaking of myself, but I've seen others who've let their parents belittle them... some are in therapy.
The fact is, regardless of the POSSIBLE outcome, the RIGHT thing to do is to stick up for himself. The neural pathways of his dad's brain are currently configured and further growing in the direction of abusive behavior.
In standing up to him, the growth will slow down, being redirected to think differently in other issues later.
And there WILL be other issues. Sticking up for himself NOW is sticking up for himself later.

I just wrote this whole thing and somehow just lost it which is really annoying but here's the long and short of it.

You're really crossing a line calling my dad a dick. My dad is awesome but just happens to not like ONE thing I'm into. The truth is I have a bit of a social anxiety thing going on and do things to avoid situations that are entirely hypothetical. My dad doesn't like me "wasting" my money on "hunks of plastic" but so what? He let me quit my dead end job to pursue my dream job which is panning out quite nicely at the moment but not to the point where I'm financially stable yet so he disapproves of me buying the latest masterpiece figure when I should be saving my money. The man endures 45 minute train rides (each way) and crazy taxi drivers just to sit by himself and watch me perform comedy shows in NYC (that's not my dream job that I mentioned earlier, just a successful hobby) and picks me up at 1AM from the train station when he has to be up for work at 5AM and never complains. You see the only "dick" in the situation is me but that's fine because as I mentioned I'm starting to make good (not yet great) money and one day I'm going to support him the way he's supported me through out the years. The walmart debacle went down because I'm eccentric at times. The security guards busted in on me opening up a toy package which could have been picked off a shelf not that far away (though technically it was because I had to pick them off the shelf before going to the register to pay for them before bringing the bag into the bathroom which, yes, is in the back of the store) and then grabbed the receipt and bag from my hand, I followed on my own because, well, he had my things and I wanted them back. I don't know why people are pulling so much out of this little story because it is in fact only that, a little story. I had a good laugh at the situation and what a dumb ass I was and afterwards went out to dinner with my dad and then out to the bars with my best friends where we all laughed at the story and agreed that I was a dumb ass. Bottom line. Any one commenting from here on in should just say "hey funny story, you did act like quite the dumb ass" or "hey what a dumb story thanks for wasting out time for acting like a dumb ass" but please dear lord drop all this talk about standing up for myself as it really isn't relevant. I created the situation and accepted the outcome that I brought down on myself. Truth be told I stand up for everything, my friend who is an officer in the Marines constantly tells me it's a shame I never joined up to become an officer myself as I would have made a great leader. It's a great compliment coming from him even though I don't know that I agree. So please don't take so much stock in all of this. It's just a story on a toy forum.

But did your dad find out? Tell us! I demand satisfaction! :D Well, I think I can predict the outcome. He'll say something but won't overblow it. He'll keep it to himself. Still, you got a understanding dad, but he can only take so much.

Ah, well that combined with the rest of your post paints a different picture than that of the first post.
I was under the impression I was talking to a youngster who was wrongly getting squashed under his dad's thumb.

Like I said before, my cousin was doing this stuff to avoid her mom's (psychotic) eye well into her 20's!
She bought Soundwave and some cassette guys with money from baby-sitting jobs, then had to ditch the packaging prior to arriving home or she'd be yelled straight into the fetal position.
And yes, all those years of having to be sneaky instead of going all out on the witch led her to things that have to be undone still today.

Oh well, be glad your situation isn't like this.

(Still think you should get the security guards in trouble. They're supposed to ask you for a receipt from the very start... not manhandle and embarrass you in front of other customers on the way to the holding office.)

i'd rather be shoplifter than have to hide **** like that from my dad. Either he gets it or not, but he can take his opinion and jam it. I love my dad, but i have the intellect and the where-with-all to ignore him.

i respect my Rents, but only a so far that respect goes both ways.

the only thing my parents refused to allow was drinking, drugs, unprotected sex and situation comedies.
the rest they argued about, but i can argue too.

ingore all that.
I'm just to stubborn and/or strong-willed to let it bother me.

We all have our things. He smokes (smoked; he died this summer), mom gripes and I buy toys.

My dad has not in fact found out. I told my mom and she had a good laugh of it and I thought about telling him tonight but at this point he'd just have a mild laugh too and I think it would demean my memory of the story. I'd rather suddenly remember it twenty years from now and tell him, I think it'd make for a better after dinner anecdote then.
