Megatron Reissue question

Postby Bonger » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:01 pm

Hi,

Is there a difference between the reissue packaged in the clear front box with japanese lettering and the one in the white box marked #6?

Is it just the Takara vs Hasbro, identical product?

They are both Takara reissues. Hasbro is unable to reissue Megatron in his Walther P-38 form due to legal issues about toy guns, that is unless they modified it. I think Hasbro is just avoiding the whole issue altogether by not releasing it. Unless I am mistaken I think the major differences between the 2 are the accessories packaged in, hopefully someone that has both can confirm this.

The #6 Megatron came with the energon mace (purple ball-and-chain thing), a Decepticon symbol mouse pad, and a Decepticon symbol sticker sheet. The first reissue (D-16S) was lacking these but was otherwise the same.

There are actually 4 reissue Megatron versions. I will start with the most recent and work backwards:

Transformer Collections (TFC 06) (My personal favorite because it comes with everything.

Megatron eHobby (note - Megatron is not chromed, but comes with sword and mace)

Ah that was helpful. I was choosing between the no 6 and the S16. However, they seem to go for the samepice on ebay, like a hundered bucks. I will go with your rec. The #6 is definately better value.

Oh wait, one thing to consider...

TFC 06 was secretly re-released to online retailers 2 months ago. Very few formal announcements were made about this in order to keep the price inflated. His price should be lower because the market is flooded with him right now. $50-60 is reasonable for him right now. Don't pay the marked up price if you can help it.

Look around the online shops for a lower price.

Having previously owned the S-16 re-issue and now owning the TFC-06 re-issue, the only differences in the figure itself is the inclusion of the energon mace. Both figures are chromed and have the sword, weapon and all pieces to make up the 'Man from U.N.C.L.E' sniper gun.

Personally I prefer the packaging of the S-16 version, but the TFC is more compact and easier for me to store.

And you have the pleasure of placing the stickers on him too 8)

It took me an hour with a cotton bud to work out the finger prints on my replacement, but man the chrome on Megs is now Super shiny!

Megatron - 'super shiny chrome attack!'
Prime - Bright light, bright light (staggers about for a bit followed by his head exploding...)

Yeah, the chrome picks up fingerprints really easily. I have both S-16 and the TFC-6 (unmodified, bought it last month). TFC-6 is definately the better value.

I got the 16S black reissue and just recently the #6 re-reissue. I was wondering if the #6 re-reissue had any QC issues (well it just seemed odd the way these appeared unannounced) and after careful comparison the toys are identical (save the colours of course). From what i can tell the only difference between the re-reissue and the older #6 reissue (from pictures ive seen of original #6) is that there is a sticker over the telephone ? numbers on the back of the box. Mine was also packaged with the inner bubbles upside down compared to how they are normally displayed, im not sure if that is for them all. Anyway its still very cool to be able to get a brand new shiny megatron/microchange toy from 20 years ago! if only takara could get some more reissues out.
