MOTU

One more reveal yesterday, 40th anniversary classic look he man for Masterverse. Doesn't look as yellow as revelations heman and the box kinda reminds me of the Japanese boxes S7 did for their TV range. Looks good but not sure why the left wrist bracer is bigger than the right.
I still don't know what's going on with smyths and their stocking of origins but managed to order clawfull from the entertainer this morning (anti eternia said out of stock though available to add to basket -their websites always been a bit poo like that). Safe to say its time to start hunting for the wave at least in the UK.

A bit of a random appearance, but Kapow Toys just got a Classics figure, for some reason?

Masters of the Universe Classics Fang Man - £69.95
I'd say grab it now, if interested. I doubt stock is very high.

I bought that Snake base playset thing from the Netflix CG He Man series. It looked good, and it does indeed look good. But the action features are complete garbage. The toys do not interact well with it and the gimmicks have faulty functioning. They cheapened out with how it actually works and I recommend anyone interested to stay away. Skeletor can't even sit properly in the chair

Playsets really aren't what they once were. It seems like a lot less effort is put into them. Especially QC.
I think the best one I had was Wayne Manor from Batman Forever.

That's how it was on the original figure and several later depictions.

BBTS has Origins wave 3 back for pre-order!! Super happy seeing this, the only two figures I've never seen are Roboto and She-Ra and I've come close to dropping $50 on each of them several times. Can't wait to get these, Roboto has long been one of my favorite MotU charactes and no being able to get this figure has been nagging at me for a year now.
Right now the only released retail Origin figures I don't have and don't plan to buy are original Evil-Lyn (I prefer the 200X version), original Merman (I prefer the LoP version), Roboto, She-Ra, comic Stratos, Power Armor He-Man (I prefer the chromed Battleground version), and Deluxe Hordak (I have the Basic instead, but would buy a Filmation blue repaint). Of the future assortments the only one I intend to pass on is comic Trapjaw.

I went to town and all I got was crabs. Pretty common thing in Yorkshire to be fair o. O
Mattels distributions been pretty good on origins here (excluding exclusives). Even with the scalpers I got scare glow at rrp. Deluxes can initially be a bit pricey if not preorders ASAP through amazon.
This wave kind of wierys me with Mattel canceling/disallowing preorders and then then reinstating them after sun man (not sure if that's why smyths delisted theirs which are never up for pre order anyhoos).
I could go with out sun man and anti eternia in all fairness and just go for horde troopers but I know I'm picking them up anyways.
Thoughts on Clawfull, he is drawn realistically in the comics (kinda odd to see) with snake mountain and eternia making slight appearances. His face is definitely something but thankfully still better than any baynus transformer. Not sure if his feet are the pretools for Mantenna as they are a unique to the clawful mold so far. Flesh tone is similar to jitsus. Another nice figure and thankfully the head isn't loose like some of the others I've had recently.

As predicted Scott Hall gone the way of the scalpers. the other two are pre orderable on Walmart tho. I'm still likely to get them to go with my masters of the wwe or for origins customs

Picked up origins buzz off today (reduced to £14 same with sorceress at smyths) despite having S7 TV version. He has the same feet as claw full so I was wrong about clawfulls feet.

Something slightly more American related
Target is doing revelations fakor for $20, Keldor and Kronis for $20 and the Battlefield Warriors (battle damaged battlecat/shiny battle armor he-man) at $30.
I was about to cave and order Battlefield Warriors at £55 form Kapow at some point this week but now my friend has one (well technically two until I get mine hahah -hopefully the entry restrictions will ease at some point or will have to meet in Mexico!)

So apparently Mattel isn't currently expected to attend Power-con in August which has rumors running wild. Scott Neitlich (Spector Creative) has been saying for years that Mattel was losing ownership of MOTU in 2023 and this seems to be lending some credence to his claims. At the same time NECA will be there and I'm pretty sure they haven't handled MOTU since 200X.
Or it could mean nothing and Mattel gets added to the lineup in a couple weeks.
EDIT: Just looked at the Power-Con website and it seems the convention has actually changed it's focus from a MOTU convention to a multi brand toy convention so that would explain why NECA is attending. Mattel really could be added later, it's still early. We'll see.

Dunno if it would even be possible for Mattel to lose MOTU, that kinda seems like Bisto losing gravy. Would be a shame if they did because they've stepped up a million fold from classics and mattel collectors club.
Picked up series battlecat even if it's too small for the upcoming masterverse figures (along with three Lanard Predators -why settle for one ugly mo when you cna have more at £8 each)
Entertainer sent me a stock notification at 2pm for horde troopers but they are already sold out and I'm in for six of them at amazon.

A while back, I noted the variant cover to the He-Man Revelations prequel comic. By Mike Mignola. Personally, I love it.

I bring this up here. Because, after seeing a few more of his MOTU sketches. It makes me sad we'll likely never see a figure or statue of such a stylised take on He-Man.

I'd rather a Sam Kieth stylised He-man. Mike Mignolas a bit of a sell out (in regards to him pushing the last Hell Boy film) though I usually like his artwork it's not the case for this MOTU stuff.
On a side note a Genndy Tartakovsky Motu cartoon would be awesome as well, if any Conan/Barbarian/Motu fans havent checked out Primal I'd highly reccomend it. Still boggles me that anyone would give money to Kevin Smith to do anything when people with talent are out there in the industry.
A boxed Eternia is currently going for £2100+ in UK but doesnt end until May. I figure charging people to come play with it at £100 for an hour might be a way of justifying it hahahah

As soon as you mentioned Tartakovsky doing He-Man, I thought of Primal. With Mignola's art above, it gave the MOTU cast an otherworldly look. That I think really works. Just like with Transformers, moving away from the standardised 80's roots and into something different and distinct. Corners were cut with the original 80's designs. Be that by Mattel or Filmation. Those molds got a lot of reuse. Whereas if the sketches for Mantena or Fisto were figures. They wouldn't work with the same buck at all.
I did wonder if the Classics line was going to go all the way and redo Eternia as well. Unfortunately Snake Mountain was their last playset. I would have been curious to see the update though.

I mean this is what it is supposed to look like, complete. NA only had Nordor and Starship Eternia as it's setpiece playsets. So that is the limit of my knowledge. Looking into the Eternia playset and it's history. The price tag doesn't even shock me. Given it's rarity and if it were complete. I doubt I'd even take it out of the box. A practice I'm not normally in favour of.

If I remember the details reported by Scott, supposedly when Mattel was having financial troubles they sold MOTU to Classic Media, which had the cartoon rights at the time, as they had no plans to revive the brand again. Classic Media is now known as DreamWorks Classics and is owned by NBC Univeral and supposedly all of the rights to MOTU revert to Universal next year, toys and all. Now Scott hasn't been able to actually provide proof of this as he said it was internal documents he received while working on MOTU at Mattel and not exactly something he could take home with him. So we'll see what happens next year, really feels like we're ticking down through the Mayan calendar or something.

Hopefully we get all the good stuff they have previewed and even more before that happens or they get first dibs on licensing (wwe superstars are a thing so it's not like they are retiring the mold reuse). Two bads the next figure I'm wanting multiples of for customs and he's not even been revealed yet waaaaahhhh.
Sun man's joined my hero shelf (even if sdcc and revelations versions are better) and anti eternia joined my rivals/skel/he shelf.
