Movie Alternators

Postby Sportimus Prime » Mon Jul 16, 2007 2:29 am

I was thinking (I know, that's usually very dangerous for me), that since Hasbro already has a license deal with GM, why don't they make ALTERNATOR versions of movie Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Jazz? And Mac Truck Prime? They'd be larger (Well, not so much with Prime compared to Leader Prime), and more detailed. Come on Hasbro.

I know, Alts are a dead line now... :( But it could have been pretty cool though.

If they did I wouldn't buy them.

I only stick to the line of Deluxes, Voyagers mainly. And I do get some collectibles here and there.

I totally agree, Sportimus. In fact, there was an online survey from Hasbro about Transformers 3 or 4 months ago, and I actually put that into the "open" section at the end of the survey. I actually said, "Hey, since Hasbro has a licensing deal with GM anyway, why not make make Alt versions of the Movie Autobots?"

I think that would have been awesome. I also think it would have been a no-brainer. What better way to introduce the general public to the Alt line than with a Movie Alternators sub-line? The movie is bringing the general public into the TF section of the Toy Department, so why not do a little cross-promotion with the Alt line?

Just one more thing that I shrug my shoulders about and say, "Ah well." :?

Motto: "Eh, keep your little planet. I'll outlive it."
Weapon: Fusion-Powered Particle Blaster
What different would they be from the movie figures already out?
Apart from being slightly bigger and having rubber tires, their transformations and posability (and fragility) are on the same level already.

I don't think Movie Alternator would work at all.

The main focus of Alternator line is CAR realism. Period.

Take Bumblebee for example. The car model, a Camaro, is as real as it gets. But the problem with movie designs is that the car "skin" is broken into several tiny pieces. All the joints will show up in the nice shiny paint job. Unless you have cybertronian technology to make a micro finish joint that don't show thru.

Practically all Movie cars have panels broken into pieces.

Whereas, Alternator cars concentrated on minimizing or hiding these joints. Often prefering to keep the hood or trunk intact, sacrifing the robot design and articulation.

Also, designers will have a big headache making the interiors of Movie cars work.

From realistic cars' point of view, yes, it seems to be a logical step.

But that's where it all ends.

The design philosophy of Movie vs Alternators are the exact opposite of each other. Or should i say, goes in the opposite directions.

Until the time we can acquire some advanced cybertronian technology, the Movie Alternators cannot come to life.

Sorry.

A perfect example is Ultimate Bumblebee.

It's in a 1:14 scale. Much bigger than Alternators. Therefore, so much easier to add those little details, those additional twist and joints.

But from what i know, Ultimate BB doesn't even have a car interior.

Now, how can you possibly improve BB 1:14, and shrink it down to BB 1:24?

An act of God Unicron?

I'm contented with Movie toys. I like them smaller scale with lots of realistic tiny details.

For me, movie toys looks better than Alternator toys. And more playable too.

It's important to keep your toy small enough for playability.

Up to a certain size, playability points will start to nose dive.

Alternators are still within a good playability range, although knocking at the threshold. A bit on the bulky side.

Masterpiece Prime is definitely off the scale. Very nice design, but almost unplayable. Built to sit inside maximum security display case. (giant display case)
