Need your opinions

Postby neosmith21 » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:26 pm

Hi everyone. I need help in deciding what to buy. I was at Wal-mart this afternoon and I noticed they had a few Transformers that I actually want (which is rare these days). Anyway, here's the ones I'm interested in out of what I found;

Classics: Ramjet, Optimus Prime, Jetfire

Alternators: Rollbar, Skids

Movie: Ratchet

So anyway, I couldn't decide which one I wanted, and since I only want to spend 20$ or so (because I have bills and such to pay this week), I thought I would ask you guys. So which one/ones are the best to buy in your opinion?

Thanks :)

Jetfire is the pick of the litter, although Ramjet is a helluva lot of fun too.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Seems like everyone is saying Jetfire. Yeah I was leaning towards him but the Alts are also tempting to me since I don't have any, so Skids of Rollbar would be my first Alt. Anyway, keep the suggestions coming guys.

Jetfire is one of my favorite characters, but for some reason his legs don't quite do it for me, and I would take Skids over Jetfire. I love my skids, he looks so hardcore.

I wish jetfire had better legs :\

Problem is, at a limit of $20, you could easily get Ramjet but nothing else. My recommendation on figure alone is definitely that crash dummy, but because of your cash limit, you might want to hold off (or get an extra $10 ;) ). Aside from that, Jetfire or Skids. Rollbar is not a good way to start buying Alts. Prime is still good, dunno how I feel about Ratchet.

Well I could probably go 30$, I was just saying that I can't go buying them all this week or anything (though don't think I don't want to :) ).

So why do you say Rollbar isn't a good start for Alt collectors? From what I've read he's a pretty decent figure. I've read more complaints about Skids than I have of Rollbar...although I don't know why, Skids looks like a great figure too.

Either go with Skids or Jefire.

Of those two I'd suggest Jetfire. As far as Alternators go, Skids tends to hand around on shelves and go or less on eBay. Which is a chame because he's an absolutely great figure!

Jetfire is a sought after Classic. Grab him at retail price while you can.

I picked up Rollbar when I saw him, and he doesn't begin to hold a candle to Skids He's lacking in articulation, and has soft rubber rear view mirrors. I wasn't too crazy about his transformation either. If I were to have gotten one of the Jeep mold, I wash it'd been Hound. At leaste he was an important first season G1 character.

If you do not have any Alternators pick up any you see, Rollbar to me is a good figure I have little problem with poses using jeep Alts and they do look great in both modes.
I bet the alts will be harder to find the others the small run were seeing now is going away very soon I believe.
Bottom line no matter what you have to get what you like most first :D

Ok so it seems that the general opinion is Skids and/or Jetfire. Thanks for the opinions so far guys.

Now I also saw Ricochet with the other two Alts that I mentioned, what is your opinion on him? The reason I didn't include him in my first post is because I'm really iffy on him. His car mode looks great, but the pic's I've seen of his robot mode don't look so hot. Now it could just be the pictures, movie Starscream's pics didn't impress me either but now that I have him I really like him. So what do you guys think of this figure? Should I pick him up eventually too?

No love for Optimus? Jetfire's great, but who's proudly displayed in my shelf?

Yep, Optimus.

Well the main complaint I've seen for him is that his transformation is too hard, but that seems true with the majority of the Alternators line. I was looking at both on Amazon last night, and it seems like people on there favor Rollbar over Skids.

Reguardless, I like a challenge, so I don't mind a difficult transformation.

Ricochet himself, I'm not sure. Speaking from experience on the Smokescreen mold, it really is one of the most annoying (but not worst) Alts to transform. It's possible you might never see him in alt mode for weeks, if ever, unless you pick up on the nuances of his transformation. As a robot he's nice, but the designers gave up when they got to his feet, essentially.

Rollbar is just unnecessary. I don't know about particular complaints myself, but without actually having anything to do with the G1 character, it seems pointless. That doesn't make much sense when I'm not even into G1 in a hardcore way, but there it is. He's also less detailed as far as paint apps go than other Jeeps (unpainted grill for one), I think. You're better off with Swindle or Hound, if you are willing to get either online. If not, Skids is still preferable, I think. It's as close to a recreated G1 toy as most Alts get.

Yeah his feet look really, really big. That's one thing that makes him kind of iffy for me. I'll probably end up getting him, but after I get some other Alts first. He certainly wasn't my first choice to begin with anyways.

Well it looks like Skids will be my first Alternator since so many people here like him. That is, unless I find another Sunstreaker. I found him a few weeks ago at Walmart but I didn't have any money on me. So I hid him while I went to the bank and when I got back he was gone, grr

Anyway, now it seems I'm down to Jetfire and Skids...hmm :-?

Be careful with the ALTS. They are addictive - once you have one, you'll want them all. Trust me, I speak from experience. I started with Skids b/c I liked the XB and the next thing I knew, I had spent a boatload of cash to get the rest of them.

Haha yeah I know that's going to happen. It happened to me with the Classics and the Movie line.

if you can only get one then it's gotta be jetfire. once you transform him and see how awesome his bot mode is you'll know you made the right decision.

I really like the way they've designed Bluestreak's legs. Sure, they're fiddly. But I've gotten used to transforming him, so it's no problem any more.
Plus, I think it allows for a much wider array of poses.
