New to the Forums....

Postby Mudkicker » Sun Mar 16, 2008 8:14 am

Hello,

I am new to the forums.

In my quest to collect all of the 1984 G1's, i have run into quite a few issues. Being somewhat of a perfectionist, i found that i was very unsatisfied with most of the G1's that i bought on Ebay.
I therefore decided to go the reissue route. TRU reissues and the various Takara releases.
However, as you all know, there are some characters that were never officially reissued.
He comes the Knock Off question.
I see mostly KO Dinobots, Mirage and the casette tapes.
I have all the G1 Dinobots and tapes but i am interested in Mirage.
Can anybody tell me what the quality is like?

Also, what do i do about Wheeljack and Sunstreaker?
I have never seen a reissue or KO of those characters.

Thanks

Wheeljack and Sunstreaker couldn't be reissued due to either the molds being too damaged or lost.

First, welcome.

Secondly, I know exactly what you mean. I went through this stuff with both Transformers and G.I. Joe. I'm actually selling off a klot of my originals of each and buying the new lines (Classics for G1 and the 25th Anniversray for GI Joe)

Bottomline though is there is no wrong or right way to collect, it just comes down to what you like.

I asked this same question about a month or so ago about KO Mirage. From what I gathered he's pretty good quality and will fit in with your other reissues nicely. I have yet to purchase one for myself, but I plan to. Like you I would rather have a shiny new reissue than a beat up original G1. I also hear that Sunstreaker and Wheeljack are going to be available as KO's next month, I believe from the same company the does the Mirage KO. Which would be good news for me since if the Mirage is good, I will get these two as well. I think one of the main complaints about Mirage was a loose swivel joint at the waist, and I've heard of some having a right hand where the left one should be. Considering how small his had are, not much of a problem.

A friend of mine has the KO version of G1 Mirage. It is very good quality and does not break as easily (chest piece) as the true G1 Mirage. I have seen his KO version and it is identical as my original G1 Mirage.

As for Sunstreaker and WJ, I am curious about where you read that?

Welcome to Seibertron.com!

Here's a site that shows a few knockoffs and also how to tell if a transformer is a KO or not.

Good luck!

Well if remember correctly when KO Mirage was first announced, the early pictures showed some Wheeljack parts in the background and it was speculated that he was in the process of being KO'd. Last week I read on TFW2005 that KO Wheeljack and Sunstreaker would start arriving in April. They got their info off of the Ages 3 and up newsletter. It was in their headline news, I'm sure it's not too far back if you want to go check it out.

Welcome to the site :)

I'm still getting used to the fact that the 1986 movie takes place 3 years in the past now.

First off, welcome.

about your question, I'm not sure which compay it is but if you'd like to investigate, try going the route of tracing all production facilities used by Hasbro/Takara in the past.

They come from china so you can leave Italy and Brazil. But best chance is they're made anywhere in the china region (including Taiwan) probably before production of the micromasters in Macau.

Okay maybe I was smoking some crack, but I guess this info did not come form Ages 3 and up. Although while searching for this I did read an article with them reporting a G1 Reflector KO. I guess I got the two confused, but TFW2005 is usually reliable with their news. I guess we will just have to keep an eye on Ebay next month, but I'm fairly certain that when we first got the news of the KO Mirage there were Wheeljack pieces present in the promo pics.
