No interest in Classics?

Postby unicron129 » Mon Mar 12, 2007 3:26 pm

Am I the only one who is not interested in buying classics? I guess it's the fact that they are basically just G1 updates with no story. I usually go crazy and buy as many of a set as I can but not this time. I guess I cant buy transformers when they aren't part of a cartoon series (probably why I never bought any Alt's). I would only buy masterpiece figures but I still haven't bought any of those either. I guess I will just wait until Transformers Heroes or whatever its called. Anyone else that feels the same way?

The classics are the only tf's I've bought since the early days of Bw, The only other tf I have is the little freebee they gave away at comiccon 2 years ago, I think its a skywarp or something, I'm not good on seeker names but its black and purple.

Not really, this has been one of the most popular lines in a long time.

Besides MP and the Reissues, Classics are the only line I have bought since...well..G1. imo they are a great update and I look forward seeing to more seekers, and a Cyclonus and Galvatron Titanium.

There is probably a distinction between those who like and grew up with G1. I'd say that they'd be more likely to buy and enjoy the Classics than not.

Conversely, I'd say that the ones who don't enjoy the Classics are more likely to be fans of the more current stuff.

Not an all encompassing rule by any means, but I think this could be generally true.

I don't need TF's to be part of a TV series to validate me purchasing them.
Out of all the current lines that have been released IMHO they are some of the best character wise, are excellent homages to G1 and damn fine figures to boot!
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.

They're fine pieces of nostalgia for those who grew up with G1 and G2.

Classics is the series that made me a serious TF collector again. Very well designed and good price points as well. Would be cool to see a series cartoon or comic based on the new stuff but I'm happy with the amount of comic support TF's are getting currently.

Classics is the first main Transformer line I've gotten since Beast Wars, aside from the occational Alternator, Masterpeice and Reissue. What can I say, I like my G1 \ G2...

I love the Classics, but I also grew up with G1.

I have found that after I know the story, I get more into the figures. I used to abhor Beast Wars. I thought the idea of Trasformers turning into animals was just plain dumb. Then to fulfill a TF buying urge one day, I bought the Anniversary Waspinator. I watched the DVD and thought the show and toy weren't so bad after all. So I rented Disc 1 of BW Season 1. I loved it! I daresay even as much as G1. I bought all the DVDs and have over 20 BW figures now.

This has happened with other figures too. I had no interest in the club exclusive Astrotrain until I read the story online (The Dark Heart of Sandokan). I did not even get through the story before wanting the figure. Now it is on preorder.

I love the line. I've bought all of the Deluxe, Voyagers, exclusives, and Wave one minicon classics. And guess what? I didn't grow up with G1! *gasp*

The classics needed to be made, I feel that those G1 figures are iconic. Most people know them. But those figures lacked any mobility, I had them when they first came out, they where like statues with arms that rotated. Now with the classics, I'm getting a kick out of their poseability, setting up fight sequences with Hot Rod and StarScream, etc. I'm like 9 all over again.

Yeah, I'm the oppisite. I've bought very little of the last three "transformer" cartoons. I thought they were craptastic. Classics, now those I love.

Looks like I'm one of the few who feels the same as the thread starter. While Classics is nice to have and I like the updated G1 look, I have no desire to buy these. Maybe it's because I know this is Hasbro's way of happily satisfying their customers demand for such a thing - I just didn't think they would do it so cheaply. But that is Hasbro after all.

By now, I've seen every Classic with exception to Grilock and I haven't bought any. Strangely enough, the only one I'm remotely interested in is Bumbleebee but that's only because I think he'd look good amongst my Alternators collection.

Same here. I had MP Prime, a few scattered Primes here & there, and Alternator Sideswipe (because I thought his Dodge Viper mode was cool). Ever since I got Classics Prime, I went apesh**, and now, not only do I have them all (except Devastator...), my Alts have grown to almost 10 (doesn't sound like much, but at $20 a pop, that's almost $200 I've spent on just them), and I'm even starting my very first Kitbash.

If it weren't for the Classics, I might just still be a casual TF fan, only obsessed with OP.

Like so many others in this thread, classics are what really got me into TFs again.
I grew up with G1, and I've not really bought any TFs since then until now with the classics, and a couple of alternators that are good G1 homages.

I love the Classics line because they have no TV show to require the figures to be more cartoon-y. They can be figures without all the bells and whistles that many of the other recent figures have had. Simple and cool.

One name: Jetfire. Man anyone that doesn't have it is sooooooooooooooooooooo missing out. I think he's the best TF in a very long time, if not ever. I love classic Jetfire so much I bought 4 more, One to display with helmet, one without, one in armored Jet mode and one in reg. Jet mode. And I'm buying one more to make a VF-1S Focker type custom.

Most people on this site (myself included) seem to think that since beastwars the TF cartoons have been pretty bad, so yeah its more or less just you. But hey, if your happy with the TV lines over classics then all the more for me. 8)

The thing is I love g1 cartoons and characters but I just cant get myself to buy classics. I only have 2 G1 toys being kup and Galvatron. I am happy with their toys. They are the originals. I actually don't like the beast wars cartoon that much even though that is what I grew up with. I actually got into buying transformers a lot (I only had transmetal optimus and BM mirage) when I got Armada sonar from my friend. When I saw sonar join to form the star saber I could wait to get hotshot and the rest of the star saber minicons. Then I watched the Transformers Movie and I fell in love with g1. I just don't understand my lack of interest in the line as they are all amazing figures.

I like the classics most of them are similar enough to the G1 line but with upgraded forms and their posability is amazing something most of the G1 line didn't have. Classic Optimus Prime is one of the best Primes to date my only complaint is that he stands roughly 1 centimeter shorter than classic Megatron they should have been designed so that they stand eye to eye with each other still though they are close enough in height that I can overlook that one flaw and as far as Classic Megatron goes if you remove his orange caps you find that he looks way better and although I initially had a problem with his wings and green eyes and since I bought a second Megatron and gave him a g1 colour scheme {like many collectors did} and the only alterations I made on the one was to remove the orange caps I have found that he has grown on me and despite his colour scheme is a mixture of Megatron and Galvatron I find myself actually liking it and the wings despite my initial reaction to them have grown on me as well infact they seem to give Megatron a more malvolency and majestic feel to him that benefits a warrior of his stature and power. As for his eyes who said green eyes cant give him an evil look the more I view them the more evil his eyes look. Yes I am definately impressed with the classics my only complaint with the Classic line is that Classic Devastator should of been released as a six figure combiner similar to his G1 counterpart of course with all modern upgrades and more articulation instead of a repaint of Energons Constructicon Maximus.
