On counting Transformers...

Postby Klunk » Fri Mar 21, 2008 1:05 pm

I am about to hit the 800 mark with my Transformers collection, and a question has arisen in my counting that I figured I would bring to the forum for answers on.

I have recently purchased the Encore re-release of Sky Lynx. I am having trouble figuring out how I should count the figure in my collection! I am of the thinking that a combiner team that combines into a larger figure with a distinct name and personality is counted not only by the amount of smaller figures but also as the gestalt form (ie: The Constructicons count as seven figures, Aerialbots as six, etc). But Sky Lynx has proven difficult as he has two separate forms plus his combined form, but only has one name.

Would you count Sky Lynx as one, two or three figures? I don't think the combined form should count as a separate figure, but the two separate figures should.

Ideas?

I, personally, count gestalts as only one in my collection as we all know it takes X amount of smaller bots and cons to make the gestalt in the first place. If your missing one of them, you have an incomplete TF. Same goes for Sky Lynx. Missing either half and he's incomplete, therefore, he's only one.

I never understood how be collected gestalts as figures+combined character. You don't own characters you own figures. TO be more accurate, at most you have six constructicons, if you want to count Devestator, then technically you have 1 figure. So you can either have 6 constructicons OR 1 Devestator, not both. You can have your combiner team and gestalt too.

I also don't count a headmaster and his head as two seperate figures. The headmaster is an accessory, like a gun, unless it was one of the ones packaged individually.

I completely see what you guys are saying on both parts. If you only have five Constructicons you would not have Devastator, so you would not be able to count him as a figure. However, if you have all six individual figures, then you can make Devastator. At that point I count six individual figures plus the one combined figure.

So Headmasters and Targetmasters should not be counted as two figures, even though the head/weapon has its own name, personality and bio? Hmm... Perhaps my counting method is completely off.

But I guess you are right about Sky Lynx. He should only be counted as one figure. I would never count something like, say, the Duocons as being two separate figures. I guess the same should apply for Sky Lynx in this case.

Thanks y'all!

I've been thinking about this sort of thing as well. My dilemma is, should minicon teams be counted as 1 transformer (because they come in 1 package) or should they be counted as 3 transformers (because they each have names and each transform on their own)?

If you want to get technical I guess they are individuals. The whole issue with gestalts and Sky Linx is that if ur missing a piece its not complete.

No one ever says I have 5 constructicons, they say I have Devastator missing such and such.

Personally, I tend to count the number of team members, i.e. six Constructicons, but not count Devastator as 7.

I don't count Head/Target/Power/Action Master partners (except Cerebros, but I still don't count Spike, though if any human from TF fiction deserves a place on the list, it's Spike).

My jury is still out on Minicons, do I count them like MicroMasters, or consider them an accessory?

I count every figure individually even the combiners. They are all seperate characters and have seperate personalities. You can have four Stunticons but not have menasor five and have all the individuals and Menasor. As for the Headmaster and Targetmasters you could apply the same thing although they're really not Tfs. I personally would'nt count them as seperate. It's like the giftsets do you count them as one, five or six? Or do you have to buy both the giftset and seperate figures? It's really up to you. :D

I think it should only count if you have a named character.

Gestalts should only count for the individual parts.

Headmaster/Targetmasters should count as one for the combined group, since they're more necessary for the total figure than the gestalts.

i dunno, i think the headmasters look better in vehicle mode mostly lol. i know the motivators did, flame gripper and lightspeeds bots modes sucked, so their heads were always sat in the cockpits.

Skylynx is one.

Combiner teams count one for each member of the team, plus one more for the combined form. The combined form is a bonus for having the whole team.

Headmasters/Targetmasters/Powermasters have a symbiotic relationship and therefore count as one unit.

At least that's how I see it.
