Post Beast Wars best figures???

Postby Pyramitus » Mon Feb 26, 2007 11:29 am

What series in the modern era of transformers or post BW had the best figures?

I think that my pick would have to be Classics then energon. The Classics speak for themselves but Energon had a lot of good figs like Megatron,Shockblast,Sharkticon Just to name a few.

The worst would probally be Beast Machines!!!!!!!!!

Depends what you're looking for.

If you want simply the BEST engineering and design, the majority of the alts and the MPs are the mest post BWs lines.

The classics arnt bad, but the lack of viriaty and thos goddamn ugly minicons kinda works against them.

For me though, by far the best all round series since beast wars (and ever as it happens) is Cybertron.
Great design.
Great veriaty (almost to the point of G1).
An unnessercary, but no where near as annoying gimick as all those fecking minicons and their ports.
And the cartoon was watchable too.

BTW... I hate beast wars.

I'm all about these classics best toy line and interpatation of the characters ever, small as the line is. Rid prime still sticks out as well as the car bros and magnus as far as great autobot desigs go. The basic energon autobots were all great I bought all of them. As far as cons go some of the armada ones were nice particuarly starscream. The cybertron soundwave is by far the best decepticon from the last 3 series. When this movie prime comes out he'll probably be best prime ever. I drive a truck so when I got a good look at that peterbuilt alt mode in this months toy fair i was stunned. Thats as real a prime design earth mode to robot as we'll ever get.

Armada was a line ruined by its gimmick. The few good ones were flukes (or Unicron).
Energon went one better. It was a line ruined by multiple gimmicks and a god aweful cartoon with a god aweful theme tune. The cons faired ok though.

Ugh! Armada had the worst designs, the only thing I liked about that line WERE the mini-cons.
The Commemorative reissues line is the best. I like the Classics line but not enough were made to even consider it a real line. You would think Hasbro would smarten up and keep makin' those badboys until the movie toys came out. I could really go for a Classics Punch/Counterpunch, Blitzwing, Shockwave, Jazz, man there is just so much they could do it's frustrating.

Punch/Counterpunch is a G1 toy I want, and a cool charecter (whichever version you go of, US or Japanese charecter) but he's not well enough known by the casual fan to really warrent a Classics toy over ALL the other charecters fans would like.

I'd buy him if they did do him though.

You guys didn't dig the gimmick in armada? I always loved the two bot combo especialy headmasters I know they were tiny human pilots but still it was a big bot little guy team thing that was so appealing to me. Armada made it one better the little guy was also a bot and the could function seperatley or united even better. I'll admit some were a bit shite but others were perfection i.e. Demolisher and Cyclones blended in good w/ their partners and the minicons looked like wepon augmentations for both modes. Some of those bad boys were homeruns and yeah some sucked but all in all it impressed an old school collector like me a new take on an old gimmick done well that added to the mythos. Now how can you not dig that?TX out.

Some of the designes mad the darkest days of G1 desing look good. At the time Armada came out, the change from what I knew (G1) was too much (I never liked Beastwars either mind) for me to get into. The thing that opened the door for me to get into the AEC triolgy was Cybertron. That and if you pick and chose well, the RiD toys arnt bad either.

I actully quite like the Armada cartoon now.

Oh I completely disagree. Some of the vehicons were very well engineered and articulation was awesome. Yeah, there were some size issues, but what series didn't have that?

I lell ya what reimus take a little time to look over some of the armada toys in the gallary and judge them by my criteria namely blending and functionality of the two bots and you might see what i mean anouther good example was jetfier and his minicon. If your old school like me and was as hype about the whole nebulan transformer pairing thing that went down back in the day I'm sure some will realy appeal to you. In fact some of the armada bots/cons made way better target masters than those we had in the late 80's. Remember those horrible targetmaster guns? I bust those out some times and compare them to that minicon rescue team that all had 3rd modes as weapons, puts those sorry old immobile bastards to shame. If ya look at it like that you see the advances as far as gimmics armada should be credited for and you might want to pick a few up to.TX out.

Sounds like your only hyped about the minicons. Which I thought were great, but the main characters toys like Hot Shot, Smokescreen and Thrust. Man those things had terrible design. Smokescreen by far was the ugliest. Oh yeah, Tankor (BM)rules.

Oh I dont mind the 'master style minicons, its all those other ones that just plucg on as a car and somehow make the charecter shoot missiles out of his arm, or release a gun the charecter was too retarded to find himself, or make him fire flames out of his ass (ok I may have made that one up).

Armada toys I DO like.
Demolisher, targetmaster, energon version (green repaint) was better.
Sideways, ONLY cuase of the headmaster and super posible combined minicons.
Blurr, the cyb one without the Minicon was better.
Megs, mine has been played with and dosnt have any batteries, so the minicon gimmicks are either worn enough to activate by hand, or electronic. In short, that craptacular minicon is a waste.

Hard to choose, since Beast Wars was my fav.

I'd have to probably say Cybertron

I digged Longrack, Thunderblast, Demolishor and Repugnis.

i have to agree with redimus on this one. armada was an utter disapointment. the toon, as crappy as it was for the first half, is comperable to g1, but the toys were horrible. not that it wasnt a good attempt mind you, they at least thought about it a lot, and made the gimmicks for the most part sell.

problem with armada for most of us collectors, is that the characters and toys appeal mostly to little kids. most kids i know (i run the local yu gi oh leage here, and basicly baby sit almost 70 kids every saturday) loved armada, and cybertron, but hated energon.

i realy do like the armada starscream, but was very dissapointed with it, since they sacrificed some details, and poseability just to have a gimmick.

the cons in both armada and energon came out locky for the most part.

good armada figs, in my opinion:

1. Demolisher (i agree green repaint was better)
2. cyclonus, even though his hads are in vehicle mode, he had the best minicon gimmicks
3. galvatron
4. wheeljack/rampage (wrong name, right toy)
5. unicron, kinda goes without saying
6. bendy prime, what armada prime should have been, minus super pants
7. blurr, i agree with redimus, cybertron with g1 blurrs head and paint scheme was best
8. red alert. some people didnt like him, i loved him
9. jetfire realy good fig even if hes a giant pair of robo pants for prime.

anyway, to the topic at hand, for the best tfs since beastwars:

my personal opinion is kinda split here

see, classics line is exactly what ive been wanting ever since g2 lazer prime came out. my tf i grew up with with all that new fangled "articulation" and "poseable" stuff.

but ultimatle, the BT/Alt and masterpeice line are exaclty what transformers are supposed to be, and both are truly marvels of design.

so

i vote both
take it or leave it
