In case you didnt notice, this is my thread. The topic is about the pros AND cons of these recent reissues.
I am aware that they would have to remold the entire bot for cartoon accuracy, but that wasnt what I said.

What I though would be better, was the nostalgia of the mold, with more character via a molded head instead of a chair face.

Last I checked, a debate features points from both sides of the argument. If you want to post about the warm feelings of nostalgia you get from these underdeveloped molds without discussing their shortcomings, please feel free to toggle the new topic button.

For this discussion though, you are again coming in short of relevance and heavy on sarcasm.

Remolding it to add a head is imo a questonble move for a couple of reasons.

#1 From a nostalgia stand point, well, it would not be the same crappy toy we all love. So I think that would be a con.

#2 As cool as I think the mold is from a nostalgia standpoint, from an asthetics standpoint, remolded head, sticker, stock, it is gonna look like crap anyway.

But yeah, no way do I pass this one up and I think others from the G1 period would probably agree.

To each his own, but I am also from the G1 period and I think that these characters deserve better. I suppose the 'so bad it's good' concept is in great effect.

Oh. no argument there. These characters deserve waay better. However, not from a reissue. IMO, the point of a reissue is to recreate the original. A deserving mold will hopefully be seen from the Classic line at some point.

If not, you can always blow a months rent and go with the Botcon figures which are pretty damn nice.

That is true, I think at a discount I would pick up the pair, but not right now.

I dont expect them to blow the door off sales wise, but I could be wrong.

Botcon Ironhide is probably the most accurate G1 cartoon Ironhide we're likely to get, becuase Classics 2 will no doubt update a very, very outdated vehicle design, which no doubt will alter the robot appearance from the G1 cartoon look. Sure they could do a G1 cartoon accurate IH/Ratchet, but why not upgrade the total package(s) in the effort?

G1 Ironhide looks like his War Within incarnation, if we start to get real hard up for a comparison.....with the windshield over his face and all.....

Interesting to read tbe different responses to this mould. I'm personally in the 'nostalgia' camp, and will most likely get these purely because I don't own the mould at all. I'm intrigued by the toys, more than anything. I've never seen one before in real life, even back in the 80's. I remember looking at the catalogues back in the and wondering where the heads were!

As an aside, thses reissues couldn't have been timed better IMO, with the release of the KO Mirage, Wheeljack, and soon to arrive (hopefully) Sunstreaker, all we're missing is Trailbreaker and we've got the whole set of Season 1 cars rereleased. Here's hoping we won't have to wait long to see him rere;eased in one form or another.

With molded heads, these could have been great reissues, as it is, I think they are easily the weakest of the encore line. Probably the weakest of any Takara or Hasbro reissue.

They are, unfortunately, some of the weakest figures in the G1 toy line. It would not be so bad if the mold was used for some kind of mindless drone character in the show or comics. Both Ratchet and Ironhide were major characters, though, and they really got shafted in the toy line. Interestingly enough, the first few issues of the comics depicted them with heads behind the windshield. After a few issues, the figures were drawn more like their cartoon counterparts. Even the comic artists could not stand the ugly bot design!

Wait... the toys came first and then the cartoons, right?

I like the way the artists depicted ironhide etc in the war within comics. I was pretty happy to see the face behind the winshield thing and was done nicely. if we went by that mold i'm sure a head added to the toy would be great.

however thats not what happened in the g1 cartoon they just drew a new bot. for a reissue this is great and i'm gonna try an get one. heres hoping for a new ironhide in the classics/universe/whatever. i believe the botcon ironhide was a repainted energon toeline? can't remember, but i'd like a toon updated accurate classic ironhide.

and to Pugnate, the toys came before the cartoon.

I wouldn't mind having one for nostalgic purposes, or for on display, but i honestly think they look awful.

I'd defo get one if they made them in the classics line, and looked like wht they looked like in the cartoons
