Reprolabels experiences (specifically G1 Prowl, Jazz, Wheeljack, Mirage)

Postby TinglingSensation » Fri Sep 07, 2007 4:31 pm

Anyone have any experience with using reprolabels on G1 Prowl, Jazz, Wheeljack, or Mirage? I'd like to start reconditioning some of my old toys from when I was a kid, but I want to do some serious looking before I leap. Is it considered sacrelige to remove original stickers, even if they're fairly messed up? In addition to being fairly worn, a lot of the stickers are kind of crooked. I'm not planning on selling them or anything, just making them nice and spiffy.

I'll give you a G1 Sideswipe Reprolabels review as soon as they show up. I removed all his old stickers last week and am patiently awaiting the new ones.

I repro'd G1 Ratchet not too long ago, here's a review I did with tons of pics:
G1 Ratchet Reprolabels

I also added the "face/head" reprolabel upgrade to Ratchet.

Dunno bout sacrelige... everything you do always lowers
the monetary value! =/

For me reprolables are a lifesaver and I am pondering wether
I should spend more money and replace all the reissue bots'
stickers with Repro products! Factory stickers are thick and
do not stick...but easilly s l i d e !

Wheeljack stickers are just like the originals.
Printed on clear stock and so far ALL the set fit better
than the originals!

I can think of only few complaints... One was that all
Aerialbots'gold details were simple yellow now and POLICE
font on Prowl's doors wasn't juust right... bit pixelly!

So if you can save prowl's door stickers keep them and replace the rest!

Just get all the old **** off with butter and turpentine,
wash with water and soap and scrub decades of dirt from
all nooks with yer toothbrush! =)

Then use toothpicks to position the new stickers.. this time
way way better than ya did as a kid! =)

Alternators Jazz is a beauty with the classic stickers too!

I've noticed that with a few sets too. The insecticons, Shrapnel in particular the blue stickers on his shoulders are just plain bright blue where the originals were light metallic blue. I've seen a few "pixelly" sets like you said as well, Kup comes to mind as one.

But these are just minor complaints of course, without Reprolabels where would we be?

Reprolabels is good about reprinting labels for you and color matching (to the best they can) if you are not satisfied.

All of the labels I have recieved from them, including Wheeljack, are fantastic.

As far as devalueing the toy, well I bought the toy for me. To me, it is worth more if the labels look good. Reprolabels all the way!

I have the repros for Sunstreaker, Jazz, Mirage and Sideswipe. Only complaints (minute ones at that) is that Sideswipe has them invisible streaks, but thats all. Especially Jazz and Mirage, all top notch.

I've bought repr labels for quite a few of my TF's and they all look great now.........I dont see anything wrong with it unless you one day plan to see them.

Thank you all so much for the replies. I guess I will go ahead and order a few sets. I will wait to do the prep work until I have the labels in hand so I can make sure they look right. What do you guys use to clean the figures? I saw someone said turpentine, but I'm afraid of some sort of adverse reaction with the plastic. Rubbing alcohol perhaps?

As far as devaluing them for sales goes, I figure I've had them for 23 years, so no way am I getting rid of them now!

You can never be sure of anything ...

Break fluid is usually good for paint removal but my
classics Astrotrain's forearms just *crumbled* to bits!
Arrggh! Now I need a spare part bot! =/

Never seen break fluid do that toplastic before...
Plastic must be gettin really cheap these days!

Never ever use paint remover on plastic tho... it turns
the pieces to chewing gum. <=) All metal parts it cleans neatly in one minute!

I never soak parts in turpentine, I just wipe the sticker remains away with it.

Many toy-chest-worn bots I have polished with fine AutoGlym Bodyshop rubbing
compound I also used to buff me car paint.

Good stuff but not for clear parts. Makes them foggy and
eventually sorta melts their surface!

After few costly mistakes I successfully used something sold
for polisihing cellphone screens ...on Ratchet's scratched
windows for instance!

If only I could afford to buy MISB bots....$1000 apiece! =)

I was thinking of getting Roprolabels for Blitzwing and to turn G2 Jazz into J1 Jazz.

Soap, water and a scrubbing toothbrush is the best way to remove stickers and grime you say? :-?

Try smear the old stickers with butter and let it melt the
paper away first! Might not work as well on the plastic
stickers like Wheeljack's but those peel off better in one
piece!

Toothpicks... always use toothpics for scraping and applying....
They don't scratch the bot nor leave fingerprint **** on the
fresh glue surface!

Thought the most impossible sticker ever is the Alternator
Hound's thin, long, golden hood ornament stripe but I
succeeded perfectly - with toothpicks! =)

Not had the others but the Mirage set I got were fine.

For sticker removal I take the TF apart and soak the plastic parts in hot soapy water for about 10 mins. the labels normaly peel off easily.

I still am amazed at the amount of people constantly looking for the safest way to remove old stickers. Just a thought. I've refurbished several of my G1 figures and the best product I advise is Goo Gone. Put it on the old sticker and let it sit for a couple minutes. Make sure it doesn't dry up. After that the stickers will come off with a fingernail and Q-tips with Goo-gone on them. Might take a couple uses but it comes off. You always want to wash those areas afterwards. Otherwise, anything you try to stick back on will just come right off. What I do is completely dismantle a figure, strip all it's stickers then wash the parts in warm soapy water. After they dry, I reassemble them and then it's sticker time.
As far as Reprolabels go, My Devestator set was a little bit pixelated but nothing noticable unless you're really looking. Everything else I've used has been fantastic.

I gave Jazz the RP treatment and it´s damn good. All my re-issues will get stickers from Delta.

But can you take G1 apart as easy as the modern day stuff? And will the die cast not get rusty in the water? Blitzwing doesn't seem to have many screws to undo. Neither does Jazz for that matter.
