Motto: ""Not good enough for G1!""
Well, I got bored reading through the argument, but thought I'd post a couple quick comments!

I don't know if it was addressed since, but someone complained about not seeing any photos of the MP Ultra Magnus standing, and saying something along the lines of "OH, that's right; IT CAN'T!"... Additionally, someone (maybe the same person again?) thought that it didn't transform into a trailer...

Well, while I won't be hotlinking his pictures, Marksprojects.com does have images up on his website of the project, in various states of completion & transformation...
http://marksprojects.com/trailermp2.htm

OK, now that that's done... I wanted to throw my two cents into the discussion... I really like the design of the figure (and his website saying that "Magnus will have many new upgrades!", hinting at future tweaks in the design?), and would consider buying a set, if I could afford one that is! (Mind you, I'm pretty much perma-broke and pick up occasional figures I really like).

I can't say if he started this project out as his own, and received commissions to remake them, or if he started the project with plans to sell it... If he planned on getting reimbursed for his time & efforts, what's wrong with that? -I see people taking commissions to repaint figures all the time, and they charge a pretty flat fee for their time as well! Either way, this is a commission piece, and there are obviously others who are willing to pay his prices, so I say more power to him! If that gives him the chance to continue working on things such as his Metroplex, then more power to him!

Again, just my opinion, take it or leave it...

Sonray, the seller is NOT the guy who made the trailer. Mark (anemis) is the guy who made it and he lives in Montreal as far as I know. The seller is one of Mark's customers, just reselling what he bought from Mark.

You are right and that is why people list them at such high prices.
Wow, that sixshot is a reissue too! I really hope no one bids on that sixshot.

To be honest, I wouldn't buy one. But that's mainly because I've never been a fan of Magnus. It has nothing to do with the quality of the work.

I think the quality could be better, however, given that these are made by hand, it's understandable that the work wouldn't be absolutely perfect. That said however, I've seen a lot of other scratch-built stuff that simply blows Magnus away. Still, this a better effort than I personally could do (at the moment anyway).

The guy (both the seller and Mark) have every right to put what ever price they feel like on the item. Doesn't mean you have to buy it though. You don't like the price, that's fine, don't bid/buy.

Anyway, I completely lost my train of thought thanks to a delicious Pearl (Bubble) Milk Tea so yeah, in conclusion, the work on it is kinda not up to the price point, but still, it's not that terrible.

The this is a big f u to the fans argument makes little sense to me. That's like saying selling an expensive piece of art is a big f u to fans of art. Huh?

People need to realize that we do not all value money the same way. For some, 600 bucks is a months rent. For others, it is what we spend on dinner out. For the dinner out type, this is short money for a fun little item.

Reminds me of the argument used against the botcon set. What a damn amazing set. Yet whine, whine, whine, I can't afford it so it is a big f u to the fans.

Fact is, it is someone's personal time an effort. It is thus their right to sell it for whatever crazy amounts they feel like. Don't like it, don't buy it.

Criticizing the flaws of the piece are one thing, criticizing the creator for his pricing is another.

He sells them on his site too for about the same price. A bit too pricey for a TF in general IMHO.

I have to admit, I don't understand the anger. I can understand eyerolling at the price, but I don't see anything to be angry about. He can ask for whatever price he wants to. Saying that he's arrogant and thinks little of the fans because he's doing it is a pretty big assumption to make. That's the kind of claim that needs backing up with something a little more substancial than what you heard about the guy ... was there any 1st hand experience to get to this point? Was he a jerk to you personally? Did you have a friend show you some ultra low-quality work? Was he on a forum that you were on?

I made the assumptions based on what people already said on this very thread, and the low quality work is quite obvious when you look at the pics of this "armor" as well as the laughable MP Megatron stock.

I have to ask though, as this is the feeling i get, why are people so against someone being angry or annoyed? Cant you just let me sizzle in my own boiling water in piece? What do you care if im angry or not? It just annoys me to see someone think that they can rip someone off like this, or even begin to think that something as crap as this is worth that much money.

Stupid people annoy me i admit, nothing i can do about that im afraid.

It's a curiosity. You're so mad at a complete stranger and the intentions you *think* he has based on opinions in one thread. It's unusual to get so riled up over nothing.

So I just asked if you had any personal interactions with him that would cause that kind of a reaction, thinking I mighta missed something.

Ahhh ok. I thought the guy selling it was the creator of it. That just makes the price even worse then, since the guy selling it didnt even make it.

Nope, i just have a reeeeeaaaallly short fuse, and anger management issues. :P (which im not on any meds for)

Just like to point out that since the seller isnt the creator that just makes the price even worse. And the people who would buy this and not think anything of the dent in their wallets or all dim-witted idiots that havnt got a clue as to the value of money in the real world that most of us all have to live in. (just IMO, since my life, as im sure yours are too, is hard and rough and below the poverty line)

Like i said this is exploiting their ignorance and stupidity, and saying "screw you" to all the other fans who have to work and struggle for a living. If you cant understand that, then thats your problem as i cant explain it any clearer than that.

And its not as if im bitter because i cant afford it either. If this was the last piece of transformers related merchandise in the world i still wouldnt buy it. Why? Cos i dont have an MP magnus for a start (nor do i want one), im not that big of a fan of the character, and its a pile of crap. Elastic bands? WTF?! Nothing that costs this much should have elastic bands, rough and bubbly paint and so many flaws in it. And like i said the fact that the seller didnt even make it himself makes the high price even worse, and makes the whole "he should be reimbursed for his time" arguement totally moot now. Unless the seller is selling the item FOR the creator (which, as far as i know, he isnt) then thats different, but its still too expensive even in that scenario.

I don't know about that...

On a serious note (and not as an affront to you Sonray), I think Transformer fans are actually some of the more well-off collectors out there. Take away the under-18 crowd and you see almost entirely working adults who make professional level incomes.

And they have to in order to support a money intensive habit like Transformers. You've got to be banking some salary to drop $100+ bucks on 10+ ounces of plastic.

I don't know about 'almost entirely' (I know I don't count myself among them), but that's a pretty fair point. And yeah, you'd certainly have to be a pretty decent wage-earner to get something like this (if you wanted one). But then this is a pretty specialist piece of kit, and not something many people would spring that much for anyway.
