They are about as useful as G1 characters having teeth huh? 8-|

As if thats relevant to his supposed "new and more realistic" aesthetic. But I forgot we were discussing G1 design. As the new and improved Prime would say, my bad.

Its quite relevent, actually, because its a double standard otherwise.

Everyone bitches about new megatron having teeth, but what stupid people like to forget is that G1 TF's, and anything since until the movie, had human-like teeth too. So why isnt anyone constantly whining like a baby about that?

So so true! There is so much wrong with G1 that people willfully overlook. I think they forgot just how cheesy it was and how bad season 3 and 4 were.

I thought season 3 was the best of a bad lot, to be honest.

Still, I think the reason people don't complain about G1 robots having teeth is that they weren't designed to be 'realistic'*. I don't know if the movie robots were designed to be realistic but it's a possible explanation for fans' convenient oversight.

*Whatever a realistic alien transforming robot looks like is anyone's guess.

Sorry but haven't we already expended enough energy on this topic? It (and the movie designs in general) was probably the hottest topic from about Dec. to April-May.

Its not really a double standard when the rhetoric that the designers of the movie use is that they are going for a "realistic" look then drop, not teeth but actual fangs, on the main villain. Ok we got it, hes supposed to be evil. You dont have to hit us over the head in such a ham fisted way.

And as far as the G1 show is concerned:

1. I dont remember this topic being about the merits of the G1 series. Its about the TC not liking the new megatron design and who else agrees with him.

2. G1 didnt wrap its self in the pretense of presenting a "realistic" take on giant transforming robots. So sorry if Im not going to "whine" about there being teeth in a childrens cartoon that aired 20 something years ago.

It's a movie about giant robots from outer space that turn themselves into vehicles and fight over a mystical life-creating object.....and THIS is your problem with it?

But just for the sake of argument, say Megatron gave himself the teeth to try and look menacing? Would that work for you?

I really don't remember anyone in the cartoon having teeth. o.O

Anyhow. Movie Megatron looks like he was based on a Gorilla to me. That's what I get from looking at his head. Nothing bad about it of course.

The only thing I miss is the massive cannon, I would have liked to see him blast through a few buildings with it.

No, this is just one of many problems that I had with the movie. Im not going to rehash all that as thats what the movie review thread is for, and not what this topic is about.

It wouldnt work for me, because again, if Im supposed to go with the realistic line that the movie makers were giving us why would megatron feel the need to have fangs and or teeth? Maybe if he is that evil or insane then I might buy it, but given his screen time, there is no indication that this is the case. Bottom line is, a character doesnt have to traffic in cliches like fangs and glowing red eyes to be "evil". But I guess since they didnt really give Megatron the chance to really show us, other than passing mentions of his evil-ness, they felt it was necessary to have crap like fangs. I mean why stop at fangs? Why not go all the way and throw a handle bar mustache, top hat, monocle on him and have him tie Sam to some railroad tracks while they were at it?

I won't join in the senseless mocking but as far as Megatron's teeth go, the best way to explain it would be to consider that on his way to Earth; Megatron may have encountered other organic humanoid races.

Taking a page from our own psychology; something that scares us more than guns, lasers, and bombs are sharp demonic teeth. If Megatron had learned this in his dealings with other organics, he could have integrated that into his design to instill further fear in them by his very presence. As if being a massive robot wasn't enough though.

I think he crash-landed. Not a millisecond of chance to encounter any lifeform.

That's my understanding of his crash-landing. I don't know how the prequel comics portray it.

I certainly didn't get the impression that he stopped off at any planets between Cybertron and Earth, however it's possible that he encountered organic life prior to leaving Cybertron, I suppose.

It would make sense to me if he had been hunting for the Allspark across several different planets, if he had known exactly where the Allspark had been he could have told some of his loyal Decepticons where he was going. That way it wouldn't have taken them so long to find him after he was lost. Of course there is no way to prove that, and as usual I doubt the thought was considered at all by the writers or the designers, it's all pure speculation on my part.

After TF3, the production may have to consider doing a prequel. To explain all the plot holes and inconsistencies of TF1.

Make it a 3-part prequel.

Titled, Transformers Movie Episode 1.

I saw part of the prequel. He did "crash-land" standing on his feet. Weird. Anyway, in a matter of seconds, the ice under his feet melted, and he was doomed.

Yup. No chance to encounter any toothy creatures.

Unlikely. During the Allspark episode, the Cybertronian war, that is, Megatron didn't drop by any planet. He just passed by them, trying to detect the Allspark signature. He landed only on Earth and was put under stasis mode.

Unless he toured the other planets before the Cybertronian war. In that case, it will be way before 4 millions ago. Hardly any life forms on any planet at that time.
