Scotland should have separated. They are rich in natural resources and are an incredibly intellectual and artistic culture all to their own.

Becoming independent would have been the worst idea for Scotland since the introduction of tartan as a national symbol.

Alex Salmond only wanted independence for his ego, he was his own braveheart making the English into boogeymen. He was rright about the conservatives though, not that it's news to anyone. His plams weren't fleshed out to the extent he had serious money holes in his plans.

Also I'm tired of the 'hate' between the scots and the english, between the Welsh and the english etc. All these things that caused the hate happened in the history books. They have no right to exist today, yet people are keen to keep bringing them up. Why? Is it just human nature? Or is it people want someone else toi blame, they want a scapegoat.

To make it clear, ultimately I would accept whatever the people of Scotland choose, it's their matter and their voice at the end of the day. I'm not a fierce 'no' person.

Though, calling half your electorate traitors because they didn't vote your way isn't a smart idea, Mr salmond.

This isn't really the case, though. That people get horny is not a problem. That they have no respect for others is the problem.

I meant for the person committing the act. Basic human urges are hard to control and keep in check. Breathing, eating, having sex, and other things are simply encoded in humans as something that MUST be done. It's hard to go against it. Please don't misunderstand, I'm not in any way excusing rape, not at all. As far as I'm concerned rape should be punishable by castration, not just some time behind bars. And this goes for child molestation as well. And yes, breathing and eating are totally essential for individual survival, but sex is essential for the survival of a species, which is why the need for it is driven by genetics. Unfortunately, some people cannot utilize the socially acceptable ways to perform sex.

You directly contradict yourself by being empathetic to humans and their natural biological urges in regards to sex and say the only true form of punishment for rape is castration. That is an incredibly harsh punishment from someone who seems to understand that such crimes stem from a clear psycholgical inbalance.
They simply just need to be either removed from society altogether or "corrected" with treatment. Mutilation isn't the proper coarse of action.

I did not contradict myself. If someone cannot control his/her urges, they should get "treatment" as you pointed out. I was simply saying I support castration as a form of punishment. It is also a viable form of "treatment." Eliminating the hormones causing the uncontrollable urge resulting in such an act is acceptable in my opinion. However, the other details, such as what other effects that might have on the body need to be clarified. There are chemical castration treatments already in use. Also, using it as a form of punishment could be a successful deterrent to the acts being committed in the 1st place. I don't see it being very effective in that regard, but that's just my opinion.

I just read this somewhere else and it kinda stuck with me:

There is no true Democracy right now on any country. The principles of Democracy have been corrupted, twisted and mutated into a false perception of freedom. There is literally no true connection between the people and the governments of the world. The word comes from the combination of the words Demos and Kratos. Demos stands for citizens and Kratos stands for state. It is the state in which civilised and political people participate to govern a country. There were no political parties, just political people. Every citizen was political. Heck, political means to care for the polis(city). Democracy works but it doesn't exist right now.

It's kinda impractical to make any sort of decision with serveral million people all at once, bickering over every issue before voting. So party politics are a solution to that problem. What bugs me about American democracy is the fact that only two parties have anything to say at all. You're one party away from a dictatorship.

I'm not saying the Dutch democracy works, though.

America isn't even a true democracy. We don't vote for Supreme Court justices or many other officials in government. It's probably better that way.

So the United Kingdom keeps David Cameron as Prime Minister and turns even more conservative. Is this good or bad?
I know there are quite a few members from the UK here, I'd like to read your opinions. :-)

As always, it depends on your point of view. My personal one is that it is a bad thing for the UK as they have promised further austerity (in the name of reducing the national debt) at the expense of cuts to welfare and services.

The biggest consequence to the international community as far as our General Election is concerned is that the Conservatives have also promised a referendum on our membership in the European Union. I have no doubts that if it did come to a vote that the public would vote to stay in, but my confidence has been somewhat shaken by just how many voted for the Conservatives in the election.

It's November 2023 and Cameron has just been brought back into government as UK Foreign Secretary. Expect a dead pig delivery soon to the Foreign Office! ;)
