Sadly, Prowl didn't make it out here.

Nor did Skywarp and Thundercracker but I was able to find them one quiet christmas morning for a VERY good price. (Worked out cheaper than buying other Titaniums in Australia)

i mostly collect g1 figures and im only 24. most of these toys were made before i was, and even the ones that weren't were WAY ahead of my time. they're amazing and i dont understand why people would collect the newer figures at all. theres somthing so magical about holdin a g1 megatron and hitting the eject button on soundwave. the gimicks of some of these figures were ridiculous(if not humourous such as the case with the HEADmasters) i have a comic book shop in my area that carries g1 figures for sale in the box and loose, and ive made many a trip there in the last 10 years. fully enjoying the hunt for toys older than i am. don't waist 15 bux on a generations blur when you can pay 30 and get a g1. trust me its much more worth it and when you are holding a massive fotrmax in your arms you cant help but lay on the floor and help defend autobot city

I'm with Burn on the Titanium.

It was die-cast for die-cast sake. Horrid paint apps on WWI Optimus aside from being too heavy. And Megatron and Grimlock.................so lazy the transformation :BANG_HEAD:

Now G1, advanced for it's time. Frickin' bricks that can kill a toddler 8-}(Fortmax), but oh the functionality (and no parts that fall off.)

 No one plays portal right? I don't collect G1 as it is insanely hard to do so in Asia, but i guess its the same reason why poeple collect vintage toys. Mostly for show and not play. The only G1-ish Tfs i own are reissue prime, soundwave, cliffjumper, thundercracker, WST Thrust and predaking.

And they are really much better than you would expect them to be in hand... Tfs really were a feat of engineering in toys back in the 80s. I dare say all G1 combiners look better than every other incarnation. And predaking is just awesome.

And the price is nothing special, considering you are bidding on an antique. ;)

I appreciate everyone's input. Truth be told I still would like to snag a G1 Shockwave one day... But if they make a Leader version for DOTM that would be SWEET!

I can definitely identify with some of you. I wasn't looking to offend anyone just wanted to see why people were so adamant about collecting G1 versions when stuff like Classics, Generations, etc. are available. Again, I understand there are still quite a few that have not been re-made and probably never will.

Good stuff

If you have to ask "Why?", then you just don't get it, and nothing anyone says will make you understand. Things that are older and rarer are more interesting to some people, so they're willing to pay more.

As for the "cartoon accuracy" of the G1 figures: you've got it backwards. The toys came first; the cartoons were only made as advertisements for the toys. So it's incorrect to say that some G1 toys are not cartoon-accurate. The truth is that it was the cartoon characters that were not toy-accurate.

Great answer!

Going back to the Shockwave thing, although DOTM Shockwave's robot mode has better articulation and is more posable, his alt mode - a purple "tank" that looks like a jagged rock - doesn't even compare to a sleek purple laser gun that makes "pew pew" noises and lights up. And as for the robot mode, even though DOTM SW has better articulation, G1 SW looks cooler, with his sleek clean lines.

As a child of the 80's, to me Transformers = G1. Anything else is just an off shoot/spin off. And while the quality of the articulation, and engineering is more complex today, the quality of the materials of the originals feels much nicer to me. Die cast parts, nice paint, stickers etc...

Based on my said perspective, posts like the original almost make me cringe, but I understand where the poster is coming from and it makes for an interesting discussion. To each his own of course. :)

I loved these bricks since the beginning of the obsession. Now, true I don't own a $500 original G1, but I get the $150 reissues (which are still expensive to me), and they are the same as the originals I once had.
